The $2000 home in Diamond City

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 11:34 pm

Some excellent interior decorating ideas are from mods on the nexus. Check out the images tab on these mods sites. Especially the pre-war textures that mods like Alternative Settlements (adds high res, custom pre-war textures for walls and floors) and Homemaker Expanded (unlocks pre-war/Institute objects and textures) add to the game. The customized textures alone that Alternative Settlements adds to my existing settlements, upped the level of immersion in my game. Some settlements are pure Megaton shanty towns, while others are a mix of current wasteland and prewar. Sanctuary is my largest and most established settlement with the unique distinction of being my PC's former home. Because of this unique distinction, I've been gradually rebuilding it with 100% pre war/customized pre war textures, and Institute/prewar objects and furniture. I've been slowly transforming it into a living pre-war museum of sorts. And so Sanctuary and its citizens are fast becoming the new Diamond City of the Commonwealth in my game. B)

Sanctuary Hills is fast becoming the Commonwealth's cosmopolitan hub--where all those snobby and wealthy NPCs at Diamond City would sell their souls to a Deathclaw just to live there. :disguise:

Anyhow, to get some amazing interior design ideas, check out the pics for these mods on Nexus. Especially Alternative Settlement custom textures and Homemaker's unlocked objects. Homemaker allows you to grow crops in planters, which makes it possible to sustain a sizeable population at a settlement like the Airport which has no farming terrain. It will be fun to see what people will come up with once CK is released for the game this year. :)

I'm still trying to understand why Beth didn't consider unlocking and adding prewar/custom prewar texture sets to the game. Then again, Beth might be planning on releasing custom content like this in the form of a Hearthfire styled DLC for game couple weeks from now.

There's already a mod for it if you're on PC. Obviously this doesn't change the fact that these things should have been included in the base game...but it is something. I can understand not being able to craft defenses there. There's no need to in the first place. But there are some things that should obviously have been included. The whole second floor of Home Plate is basically useless. There's enough room to place a bed and a chair or something like that, but that's it. When I first bought it I started planning out how I was going to patch up the second floor and make it usable. I saw the big side area and started planning out how I was going to set up my workshop there...how I was going to build something of a loft in the part with the higher ceiling. Then I opened up the workshop and realized that none of this was even an option. This is a huge oversight. Why even include the second floor if it's totally useless? Why include a big area that would make a perfect workshop if you can't actually use it as a workshop?

I have done most of this now thanks to mods, but I shouldn't have to mod the game to do something that so obviously should have been an option in the first place.

Hey Alartic.

Many thanks for taking the time to give me that info/link. Those mods look outstandingly impressive! It almost looks like a completely different game. So many new toys to play with thanks to the hard work & dedication of the modding community. It's not a world I frequent much as I feel my pc in its current state is not really up to the task. But now I've been exposed to the wonders of what my game could achieve, I'll make it a new year resolution of mine to upgrade my floundering pc. Many Thanks again buddy. Happy 2016!

That feel when you know it's gonna be the same engine in the next Elder Scrolls, with the same look and feel, the same limitations, and the same bugs.

OK I got a ton of full-size (1920x1200) shots here! Cait kept following me around as I took these. Apparently she is NOT camera-shy!

Crafting stations and resource linking should be possible, if only as means to avoid load times. Teleporting into homeplate is instant, entering DC from there is a pain in comparison.

Those are amazing! I am a little envious, lol.

I finally bought the home yesterday, for the first time and was pleasantly surprised.

I do wish they would have allowed us a little more freedom in decorating in the base game (you are using mods, right?)

I would have been very happy if they would have let us put a stove, armor workbench and a weapon workbench though. Also would have been great if we could send stuff to our workbench somehow, but that's not too much of a problem for me.

I'm pretty sure that the Gamebryo/Creation/[WhateverWeCallTheOneFallout4Uses] must be approaching 1,000,000 lines of code, if not already over it. That's (quite literally) 18,000 pages of writing. Or more.

So if you have an engine that gets the job done, you continue working with it. Almost everything we have today (software-wise) is based on a system created decades ago that has been fiddled with and tweaked over time. Few companies are going to tackle building a new engine from scratch.

I'm pretty sure there is no programmer at Bethesda that wants to tackle TES VI: Redguard II or Fallout: Delaware if it's going to begin with:

No mods for the Home Plate decorating other than this:

"Open the console, select the workshop inside the house, and type
"addkeyword 5A0C8" (without the quotes). This will allow you to build
pretty much everything you could build in a normal settlement, including
crafting benches."

May I ask why you have this hatred? I am aloyal Fallout fan since 1997 & a Witcher fan, Haver read half the books of The Witcher series. Got my FO4 protagianist as closelooking as theWitcher, & if I could use mods on my XB1 I would change Piper's looks tolook like Triss from theWitcher

While I don't mind the game itself, the fans ruin it for me since I always see people go to other games like DAI and Fallout4 and talk trash about other games and how much better Witcher is.

Wild Hunt is one of 7 games I played through from beginning to end twice in a row.

The others were:

Jagged Alliance 2

Oni

Civ 4

Jedi Academy (3 times in a row)

Morrowind

Modern Warfare 1

While I do say The Witcher 3 is an excelent game. CDPR Devs have screwed us consoles users with the lack of fixes & the patches that they finally do release, they are worse than before. If you travel over to thier forums you will see a butt load of complaints about how they keep putting in game breaking patches for consoles. I will not call TW3 "Game of the Year" for that reason. If they finally get their head out of their butts & fix it for consoles, then I may onsider it for GOTY for 2016. I do not call FO4 GOTY either because it came out in Nov. 2015. Too late IMO to be considered for GOTY & too early to call it that when Bugs are getting worked on through the end of 2015.

So it will be a coin flip for me in 2016 for GOTY. I'm leaning more towards FO4 IF they get the modding to work for the consoles.

Uncalled for. Please do not bring in RL politics into this GAME forum. No matter which side you are on, it is still uncalled for. And no I am not supporter. We hear enough about politics in all news media, we don't need it here in the gaming community. Unless you are voting in a poll about an aspect of the game. So I am asking nicely for you not to turn this community or any gaming community into your own personal soapbox for you to stand on and spout.

To the Moderators: I hope that my above comment did not upset any of you.

Don't think anyone will have an issue with this, but I don't think it will have any effect either. You're in the wrong country if you want to say "hands off the political discussions". One of the things that makes America what it is is the freedom to criticize even our leaders. Keeps things real.

(Incidentally, after the whole "period" allusion during a public debate...Trump is open season concerning comments.)

I can understand this. I have a friend here on the forums who refuses to play Morrowind because he has been turned off by the overbearing, "holier-than-thou" attitudes of Morrowind fans on this board.

I myself had a similar reaction with Daggerfall. When I first got here the "old guard" Daggerfall fans ceaselessly poured all kinds of venomous hatred on Morrowind. And for years I had a big chip on my shoulder because of this and refused to touch the game.

I sometimes think that a game's worst enemies are its most ardent fans.

I've caught myself getting to be like that about Fallout New Vegas from time to time, even though I do like the game well enough. I just have to keep reminding myself that I can't blame Obsidian if some of their fans are overly obnoxious on these forums.

Yes, as an American, I believe in the Constitution that has been ran through the mud for the past 16 years(gotten worse the past 8) and while I believe in freedom of speech, we are talking about games. FO4 in particular, not the politics. If someone wants to be free to do that, fine. Start a thread about his hair or other political rants. Just not this thread about a 2000 cap home in Diamond City.

Do I want another Ronald Reagan? Oh God yes, but I'm not going to explain why in this thread.

Long live The United States Constitution & The Bill of Rights. May they come out of this mess stronger than ever.

See, that above statement, while true, has no berring on this thread..... Like Donald Trump.

Personally I found Home Plate quite nice, especially if you are playing a character who isn't doing too much settlement building elsewhere. My only problem is that I can't send any companions there. I don't mind that you can't have settlers there, because as other said, its just a house, not a town. But it would still be nice to send companions there, turn it into a safe house for Team Soul Survivor.

Also, I would just like to point out that the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/ specifically forbid talking about real world politics, but of course I'm not a moderator, so I won't say anything else.

Before seeing this thread, I had no clue that you could have a place in DC. I always used Piper's office to store my whatnots to sell them later in DC. Don't know if I will get it or not. I'm kinda hoping that I can mount a coup & become the Mayor of DC. I can run it much better.

Yep. Fallout 4 caters to different kind of players:

- Those who like to build village

- Those who like to build shack

- Those who only like to have a house

- Those who only like to pay and rent room

- Those who like to go camping and use someone else's mat
