The ability to charisma everything is an absolute must.

Though you have to agree not all places would let you pass just because you ask nicely. You can't just flirt your way into area 51. Also considering that some places in Fallout use robots, it becomes even more unrealistic.

I agree shooting everything is unrealistic too and shouldn't solve everything, but charming your way out of everything is also unrealistic. Raiders seem to shoot first ask questions later, good luck using your charm on their bullets.

Also, slavers use non lethal weapons, and besides, talking instead of shooting is also un-american.

Are you being serious or making a vague Spinal Tap reference (that frankly is rather poor)?

If serious, then NO....10 should be that difficult to achieve.

If not.... Then that's one more...isn't it...

that's 2 questions :-)

1) yes, i'm serious: the op was totally right, in any discipline, you'll find true masters capable of pulling incredible stunts in it, and not the kind anybody could acchieve if s/he just practiced long enough, but the one-in-a-million case where highest degrees of talent, practice and devotion meet. now, any random [censored] can go up to 10 if they stick to it long enough, that's why that stage of mastership, in a game version accessible in solely some way that reeeeeally hurts so only folks who really mean it with that skill would even go through it, would be 11 :-)

and 2) :-D certainly not - i do know what the spinal tap is about, but never actually seen it. care to elaborate? got some vague feeling whatever the answer might en passant clear up one decades old little private mistery i've got... :-)

(and am i assuming right that "then that's one more" is another spinal tap reference? if not, no comprende. except if you're trying to tell me that 11 is one more than 10, then yes, that'd indeed be one more, i think :-)

If you can't think of a way that charisma could give you victory at 10, you're unimaginative.

Robots? Convince the robot that it's malfunctioning.

Actual problem that you need to solve with physical violence? Convince someone else to do it for you.

Actual problem that you need technical help with? Convince someone else to do it for you.

...and no, this didn't answer my decades old private little mistery (been wondering for 35 years what on earth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2H87MiyNQsis about - can't even understand what they're saying, even though they're from the same country as i am, so i actually should be able to parse their "english", one would think...)

So when the raiders ambush you, then what?

Also... convincing robots that they're malfunctioning means that you're able to trick robots in the first place, idk man, as I said, charisma should work on a lot of things, but everything just doesn't make sense.

Robot does not care or listen, you know, because robots are not 100% sentient, they follow a programming. this is not star wars.

and you are in the middle of nowhere traveling and attacked by raiders who have no issues with killing you dead?

and yo are ther smartest person there? or they are asking because they know of knowone smarter?

Your "ideas" are bad and do not work in a game nor the real world

I'd prefer if charisma served as a sporadic bonus.

That reminds me of a side quest in The Witcher 2 where you can completely shut down a golem by talking it in circles and getting it really confused and having its' two primary programmings in conflict with each other. Loved that quest and the fact that you could do that ^_^

- Wrong. Many robots understand people in the fallout universe. this is what people in the 50's thought would be in the future, of course they have conversable robots. At worst, you have to imitate robots by talking in a robot voice, which should be funny.

Raiders are going to want to capture you first, else you're no fun.

This is the forums, and I know those with huge charisma number less than those who want to shoot everyone; but this is a classical example of someone with no imagination.

Probably one of the more memorable parts of the Witcher for me. It was fun. No automatic 'I win' button, you actually had to work to get that result. More than usual anyway.

Science(int) should be required for talking robots out of something.. like how you talk your way into vegas by relaying some science code (that just so happens to be the words ice cream written in leet speak which is also the password for other robots in that building that i forget the name of.... fallout people apparently love the word ice cream as a password) so having high int(science skill) and high charisma would be required to talk your way out of all problems.. including robots.. because in order to sabotage a robot by talking to them.. you have to first understand how they work.so if you would want a complete pacifist type playthru you'd need 10 int and 10 charisma to guarantee you could talk your way out of anything/

most robots do NOT understand humans, if they think of you as a intruder, you are dead. this occurs many times throughout the game, including fallout new vegas.

for the raiders, no, a MAJOR thing about the raiders throughout all the games is that they ARE simply killers and monsters, not talking them out of anything.

to be fair those are usually security robots who have had their ability to converse with people disabled to prevent people from trying to convince them they are supposed to be there.

in those cases you can usually use science to shut them down... and in some cases you can talk your way past them.. but that falls under science not charisma as you just give them a command code that overrides their original function ect.

SOME of them can be done like that, but MOST of the time, no, if a robot thinks you are an intruder, you are a target to them.

Then have the robot not think you're an intruder.

Wear a badge that says 'not intruder'

The idea that charisma should be able to solve all problems is as bad as the idea that violence should be able to solve all problems.

Ideally most problems should have multiple ways of being solved but sometimes a particular method won't be suited to solving a problem.

In the Fallout world I'd imagine violence is often going to be an obvious solution but hopefully not the only or best solution all or nearly all the time.

Wow man, You're not getting the point at all, are you?

You could tell someone to sneak in and get you that badge. Or you could spout some line about misplacing your card, then getting the card. Or just misplacing the card and running past the robot.

The hitler anecdote is likewise, poor. If you were more charismatic, more understanding and more empathetic, you could probably talk hitler down. I mean you could talk the master and Eden out of their crazy [censored]. Why not hitler? Hitler would have a charisma of nine or something, so it'd be a rough verbal battle. But you could do it.

....you know what, not going to bother, because if you think you could POSSINLY talk someone like hitler down........then you do not understand history nor human nature, nor common sense.

It would be interesting to see two extremely charismatic and manipulative people try to passionately convince each other of something. Convincing the masses is one thing, but what about convincing someone who has been manipulating those masses already?
