The ability to fix roofs in settlements

I would love to see an option to fix and patch preexisting roofs in the settlements

Thirdedededdddd.

I think it would make Sturges happy also instead of looking like the most incompetent handy man in the fallout universe.

Otherwise I would like the option to tear down the existing structures and start fresh.

Yes! Sweeping the floor of leaves, patching up that roof and the holes in the walls, and straightening shelves thanks, get to it Sturges and Codsworth!

And then let us put things around the houses without having them fall through the floor.

Lol that reminded me of someone the other day requesting for settlers to clean their faces. Yesterday when I was playing I found some soap and Codsworth remarked something along the lines of "I'll be amazed if you can find a use for that". :lmao:

You can patch up walls, sort of, by placing new walls over old ones. Works quit well if you know how to fight clipping.

I would like to see a mod where settlers gradually improve/polish/finish structures - adding tiles or boards or whatever, over time.

I completely agree. There's a lovely settlement I would love to make my home but there's a hole (or two) in the roof of the house. I mean seriously, this place has a nice lovely house with lights already in it, a light house, and docks, complete with a little shack (perfect for crafting stuff) and a boat! I would totally live there if I can fix the roof of the actual house itself properly.

Completely agree re: patching and also completely demolishing existing structures we don't want, or being able to fix them up and clean them up. I find those bars of soap in the most random places LOL, I think there was one in the book store?! Honestly, if you're going to the level of detail of the settlements and the objects in the world, it needs to go a few steps further. The fact that there's electricity but no plumbing?

We should be allowed to paint walls too. That would be great.

Since fallout 3 I've always wondered why people don't clean the rubble/garbage/loose paper off of their floors.

Also after 200 years you'd expect some sort of advanced post war civil engineering. But at most, people can make shoddy shacks from scrap metal. Can't they put two bricks together and build a stable building?

I'd settle for getting rid of the corpses that litter Starlight Drive-In.

Agree 100%. Like when you finish the BoS quest line, why can't you make the BoS barricades like you see at the Cambridge police station and the Boston Airport? I mean, surely you could figure out how to make them from someone on the main airship or do a side quest to find blueprints. Also, why can I only break apart concrete blocks but can't make them? Just like fixing up the houses is a good idea to or tear them all down. Also, why so skimpy on the metal building materials? No metal floors or stairs? Really? There's enough metal scrap in Boston to rebuild just about anything. I like the idea of building setlements but it kind of seems like it was a last mintue half assed idea that was attached to Fallout 4. Bethesda says they will listen to us about future DLC, I hope they add more building opitons in settlements.

The buildings' walls and foundations are obviously structurally sound, given that they are still standing after having a nuke blast sweep across them 210 years previously. It would be quite wasteful to NOT build on that structure. I figure the ONLY reason that the devs didn't allow for roof repair is because they couldn't figure out how to create angled roof sections. This idea is born out by the fact that ALL roof sections are 100% horizontal plane.

[Given that it's the Boston area, I'm curious how well those DIY structures we build in the settlements will hold up to a couple feet of snow accumulation come winter. Especially since the devs never created vertical supports to place inside the buildings to support the roof.]

They could easily just allow you to highlight the whole entire building and do either two things:

Repair (which repairs them reasonably).
Scrap.

You should also be able to scrap all, and any, dead bodies.

While on the topic of ideas for the crafting system... There should be a marking system in the inventory where you can mark certain items differently. For example, mark raw meat as "junk" so when you throw your junk in the crafting inventory, so does your raw meat (for later cooking). Or perhaps mark Teddy Bears as "ammo" for the Junk Jet... Because, let's be honest here. Junk Jet's greatest glory is the fact you can kill people with teddy bears. Who here seriously use teddy bears as building material instead of ammo? But this would be tricky to do.

God yes! I would love this to become a reality! Fix holes in the ceilings, floors, walls, getting rid of weeds, cleaning up junk piles. I've found lots of paint in the game, so why can't we give these areas a lick of paint! just to go a step further. I like to make these domiciles a cozy place for my settlers to dwell, instead of them standing in the rain. Much more needs to be done on this system. I get so carried away when building settlements, just wish the aforementioned problems would receive some kind of solution. Also I'm kinda tired of finding a Brahmin standing on the roof (rolls eyes)

i would love a "refurbish" option for the houses. the places in santuary, those single house locations with the big mansion...

can be prohibitively expensive on materials but give a massive visual improvement. as well as totally blocking rain inside.

i also would love "refurbished" furniture options.

also the advanced lightning needs a overhaul... it doesnt light more than 2 feet away.
