The Absolute Best Thing Of Fallout

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:22 pm

Greetings Forum!

EXPLORATION!

if there is one thing Fallout New Vegas did better than every other open world game it was exploration (and the rewards you got from it)

Remember walking offroad, stumble upon a random mine, fight through that mine and bam. Unique Weapon Ratslayer at your disposal. Awesome!

Or going through Vault 34. Fending off legions of ghuls and suffering hours from radiation poisioning while navigating your way through the ruins only to be rewardet at the end
WITH THE MOST MINDBLOWING WTF MOMENT EVER while gazing upon this HUGEA** arsenal of guns and uniques.

Fallout New Vegas succeeded were others failed.
Exploration has never been more rewarding and exciting like it was in that game

So ... please Fallout 4
DO IT RIGHT!

Well, New Vegas did do a lot of things even better than just exploring.

Unusual.

You mentioned one of the rare things Fo3 is usually agreed to have a slight edge over FoNV.

I tend to prefer other things like writting or C & C so i don't care much.

I loved all the silly random arrangement of items hidden in the CW. I hope we get a lot more of the same in FO4.

Like the F@%# you door that opened into nothing.

Nothing I like more than exploring. Main quest be damned, there are places to see and phat l00t to be had.

FNV was pretty railroad-y, at least in the early levels. Not impossibly so, but you were really strongly nudged to go in a particular direction, since if you didn't there was a high likelihood of death.

My hope is that FO4 will have some of those areas that are dangerous regardless of level, but that it won't so obviously shunt me south-east-north.

You know, NV was really expansive and I had a really good time with that. On replay value, I'm pretty sure I redid NV more than F3. But narratively, I did always feel like I was almost given too much to continue to have a realistic and cohesive character. Now, I liked the exploration and options so much that I don't really care about that con as much. It was just an issue I had to hash out with my imagination--and I'm OK with that ultimately.

I'd never consider it the "best" thing in Fallout, or even close, but I agree that the incredibly rewarding exploration in New Vegas is one of the many things that sets it apart from others games. I know most prefer 3's exploration, but for me, NV beasts it for the exact reason you describe.
