The airing of Grievances.

Considering it's multi-platform and a huge open world game, how the [censored] can some complain!.
REALLY?
Getting the game to look like that on supposedly out-dated consoles is truely awesome.

Because PC's are about 6 years ahead of the consoles now. Why should PC gamers be held back by the limitations of consoles? It's a neverending pendulum. When new consoles come out, they own PC, then PC catches up and surpasses. I just hope there are higher textures at release because if not, I will just have to wait a couple months for the excellent modders to make the game prettier.

Some people just don't deserve games like this.
I want to say more...i'm pissed at the minute.
While everyone has a right to say whatever about the game........ahhhh....whatever....i have no time for snobs.

*Shrug* There's a saying : without the freedom to criticize, there's no worthwhile praise.

As in, if I say that flowing water, hair and some fabric are too geometrical-like, that some images look weird as if someone cut parts and glued them back on together (difference in lighting ? Can't explain the feeling), you better believe I mean it absolutely when I say the towns are absolutely gorgeous, the fights look sweet and deadly, the dragons adequately scary.

If all we should do is praise no matter what, then we are no use as feedback, and Bethesda might as well nuke the forums. I think as pleasing it is, "OMG it's awesome" must get pretty tiring past the first hundred.

Exactly.
As long as there's constructive critizism, and not just complaining without explaining properly, then it's a GOOD thing.
Find the faults you can, so that they can be fixed.
It would be BAD if we don't do that. Not only to ourselves, but to Bethesda too.

We all want the game to be as good as possible.
Despite the flaws I saw though, I still think the game is going to rock the world out of every other game.

People complaining about the graphics? Really? Okay  .

The combat gameplay looks sweet. It just "clicks", and the fight with the dragon was flat out epic. I'm excited, but I'm not going to be getting my hopes too high until I actually get my nerdy hands on it.

LEGS IN FIRST PERSON. It was apparent when the Dragonborn looked down that cliff that he was just two floating arms again. Bad, Bethesda, I am disappoint.

The waterfall looked very bad, don't know why it stands out so much when the other water shown is great.
Oh, and bump maps are still very much underused. The road in the town shot looks completely flat, not like there are any stones in it.

- 0:36 Really sharp, unnatural edges for the snow.

He was running on ice. So it is made to look more like water frozen around a rock. Ice has much more of an edge.

Well, for all who haven't seen, the new gameplay trailer for Skyrim is out. And boy, does it look promising! I was blown away, honestly. It was so fast though, it's hard to get a good grasp on things, coming in at only 1 minute 50 seconds roughly of actual gameplay footage when cutting out all the dragonwall scenes and ending.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSRtYpNRoN0<------

Now, do not take this thread as a QQ thread or a complaining thread; I LOVED the trailer, and I think it looks amazing. I'm really happy with it. But, there are some things Bethesda should take a look at over the coarse of the next 8 months in preparation of launching this game

Issue #1 - Water Effects
The water effects in the trailer were, to be blunt, bad. That running water scene where the water is flowing down the rocks in the stream is horrid. It looks like blankets of solid texture rolling over the rocks, games 5..10 years ago have more realistic water effects. Heck World of Warcraft has more realistic water http://www.mmocrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/wowcwe.png You guys really need to look at a way to enhance the "feel" of flowing water. I can't comment on stagnant water as I haven't seen a good shot of that yet but, it probably needs to be looked at as well.

Issue #2 - Expressionless Faces when stabbed through the heart
In the trailer, we see a man stabbed in the chest, but his face has the expression of watching an episode of Lost; just kinda' chillin'. Why is this? Are facial expressions not something implemented yet, or do you not plan on having real time facial expressions throughout gameplay besides conversation? Real time expressions, just simple ones, like pain, happiness, etc would add immensely to the gameplay factor IMO.

Issue #3 - Low Res textures on the Dragon
I know that the game isn't done. I know that things are still being worked on. But I feel like this is something that should be looked at, even if it's not final. The textures for the Dragon were really low. Like, Morrowind low. I don't see any excuse for this other than "the game isn't done yet" and I hope that's how it turns out.

Issue #4 - Dragon Shouts
The Dragon Shout was awesome. I watched it over and over again, and it gave me chills. I cannot wait to do it in game, and to play this game in general. It's going to be awesome. But I digress; the dragon shout was weak. It felt a little un important, just like a battle shout. When a Nord screams, people hear it. It's a DRAGON shout though. Where's the bass? Where's the draconic influence? I was expecting some deep rumbling voice to come out of you when you did a Dragon Shout. This really needs to be the case.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is all I found that needed work with the trailer. It looks amazing, I cannot WAIT, and I want to thank Bethesda for doing such an amazing job, and I want to thank them for giving us Skyrim. It's going to be a BLAST.

But, there is the part of "discussion" in a thread. What do you think? Do you agree with what I've said, do you disagree? What did YOU find that needed improving in the Skyrim Trailer? Keep in mind, this is not a bashing thread. This is an admiration thread, and a suggestion thread to further give Bethesda a grasp on what needs to be fixed with Skyrim before it launches. We have 8 months people. Lets make this the best game in the last decade.

Thats the problem with most ( not all ) PC users...they think of themselves, and look down at console users as peasents.
Your never happy with things.
Oblivion took the elder scrolls to a new level, because of Xbox and PS3....FACT!
If the game was just taylored to the decent PC market, and not consoles, bethesda would not be as big as they are now.
Some of you don't look at the bigger picture, because your heads are stuck so far up your arses.
More and more developers are turning to the console market, because thats where the bread is,it's how they'll grow quicker. Which in the end allows for better standard of games.
Some PC user's have ridiculous standards, and always have something to complain about.....in the end, that will be your downfall.
I'm not going to say anymore,as i may get a warning.....so be it!
Some of you need to look at the bigger picture, and not what you just want.

This is my opinion:

LOOKS AWESOME.
SOUNDS AWESOME.
FEELS AWESOME.
It would take too long for me to mention all the "goodies" in the trailer. There were sooo many :D
So I'll just mention the few things I'm disappointed about.

The only "faults" I could find in the video was:
- 0:36 Really sharp, unnatural edges for the snow.
- 0:55 Very low-res dragon texture? Could be the video though.
- 1:24 Bad-looking waterfalls. Looks unreal, plastic... (I hate to bring Crysis into this; since Skyrim is 1000x better in general... but Crysis did waterfalls right, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1gummzdqOo)

Other than that. Definitely the best piece of a game I've ever seen in my entire life. I only listed those "faults" because I care so much about this game and want it to be as good as possible.
Nonetheless, this will be the Game of the Year! :D
And it will be the best RPG in the world :celebration:

You really have a love affair with Crysis. It's a good game but you need to realize you can't keep comparing the PC version of Crysis to the 360 version of Skyrim, of course it's not going to stack up. All the issues many people listed will be fixed on the PC version except maybe the waterfalls which still look great for most video games. There are just some things you have to make look a certain way so they can play on the consoles that you can make look a different way on the PC.

You can please some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time. But you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Some people will find anything to complain about! I thought the trailer looked amazing.

I'm disappointed there's still 9 months left before I get my hands on it.

Still, I love how arguments have shifted from

NO SPEARS NO HORSES NO STAVES

To

Oh... well I guess they are in... WELL PLACEHOLDER SOUNDS AND LOW RES TEXTURES FOR A CONSOLE PREVIEW IN ALPHA. WAAAAH.

I don't think there would be frozen water high up near the edge of a mountain.
Whatever it is (snow or ice), the sharp edges need to be improved a bit I think. Even ice would (or should) not look like that.
It needs to be smoothened.

Anyway it was really cool how the snow melted by the dragon's fire :D

The waterfall was the most jarring thing.

One more thing, I just noticed you can see dynamic shadows disappearing because of view distance in the shot at 1:17 to 1:19 at the wall in the middle. Of course we could have expected that, I just hope it doesn't become too jarringly obvious in the game as it is in some others (Assassin's Creed Brotherhood jumped to my mind).

As was said several times already, the running water seemed a bit.. underwhelming. However, I just downloaded the HD version from twitter, (link http://twitter.com/#!/elderscrolls for those who don't already have it bookmarked) and a couple things seemed to appear better in it, especially the dragon textures, but maybe it's just me.

I only compared the waterfalls with Crysis. I don't have a "love affair" with Crysis. I don't really see how "I hate to bring Crysis into this; since Skyrim is 1000x better in general" fits into that. I'm objective only about some things that look awesome in terms of graphics, which they did very well. Waterfalls is one of those things.
It's waterfalls that's my point and issue, so you need to realize that.

Perhaps Bethesda can take a look at how they did it. Or another game. Crysis is not a necessity. But it is a necessity to change the waterfalls I think.
