The airing of Grievances.

Post » Sat Jan 29, 2011 4:43 am

The dragon looked really low res.

Which is odd because they're the main point of the game...

This isn't official or anything and don't quote me on this, BUT I believe it was made using a Xbox 360, or with graphics set to the Xbox level.

My grievance is the fact that this(and all trailers) use the best shots of what this game has to offer, or they are scripted events. The game won't flow nearly as well as what we have seen.

That's what I was talking about, the voice. The mans voice was great imo and the dragons was even better and more epic feeling. It doesn't have to be some booming Barry White to have the same effect. Maybe I just have better audio output devices, I don't know, but I thought it fit fine. I'm sure the video would've sounded even better with my Skullcandy if they didn't get broken yesterday, so I just played the trailer sound through my surround sound in my living room and it seemed to give me the effect of the shout just fine. I'll be using that surround sound when I play Skyrim so I guess I'm set. If you want, you can invest in some bose speakers, they will give you the effect you desire.

There is nothing wrong with my audio output devices however I think this is just a point we are going to have to disagree on, the voice in the trailer just diddnt do it for me, the choir sounded good however the Dovahkiin's voice was not as powerful as it should be in my opinion.

You have to realize he is still a Nord, he didn't just become some godlike character capable of rumbling the earth. That's what the greybeards do. The fact that he still has his normal voice is very good in my opinion.

Wrong, he is the Dovahkiin and I have been lead to believe it is his voice that gives him power and makes him special, if anyone could peform the shouts then the Dovahkiin would not be needed, while he may not have the power of the greybeards just yet he still needs to have a powerful voice to perform the shouts, the voice in the trailer just diddnt do it for me.

Ever stop to think that he didn't use a full powered shout? Not all of the shouts are literally "shouts" either. As said by one of the interviews, the shouts range from broad, earth-shaking shouts to a whisper (or something like that...). They may have shown a shout that wasn't that loud. Just food for thought.

I had no problems with the trailer. I'd play it as it was shown.

The only missing thing for me in the video was hand-to--hand fighting (i'm starting to think it's not a skill anymore...) Other than that that video was EPIC

3rd person over the shoulder view :( :( :( :( :( :(

oblivion system was fine.

everything trying to be gears of war.

Where exactly?

And if so its not THAT bad, if your on PC you just get a mod, but its not like its killing the game.

Just the looks of the rapids and the fire effect (when the warrior guy was recovering from the dragon fire) didn't seem to have a clean transparency. Other than that it's ace.

The fact that they wanted to SHOW US the new Creation Engine, and they show it to us on a Xbox. Thats sad.

No Cliff Racers! *rabble rabble rabble*

Nah, I have no complaints really. The only thing that made me react was some of the snow textures. For a short moment it looked cell shaded but I guess that's due to the low res clip.

My only minor complaint is related to the shout seeming weak.

Homever, i do like the voice (Well, maybe little more of RAAWR! in there would be good...) , but what really leaves me desiring for more is the animations of the shouter. The only thing moving is his jaws! I want to see more power in animations and effects. Like spittle flying out from his mouth :)

Otherwise, everything seems awesome. (Alright, the rapids might need some work, though its not that bad)

The dragon looked low IQ. First it had him on the edge of a dead drop cliff. Just push the idiot over the edge already. Then it had to go and swoop in low enough for him to stick his sword in it. Just roast him with fiery death from above. I hope they're smarter than that.

Agreed. Hopefully as you scale the difficulty, dragons will fight smarter, do tricky things to kill you.

My only complaint would be that water texture on the river, I'm sure that'll get swapped out at some point. The water itself looks great.

This is my opinion:

LOOKS AWESOME.
SOUNDS AWESOME.
FEELS AWESOME.
It would take too long for me to mention all the "goodies" in the trailer. There were sooo many :D
So I'll just mention the few things I'm disappointed about.

The only "faults" I could find in the video was:
- 0:36 Really sharp, unnatural edges for the snow.
- 0:55 Very low-res dragon texture? Could be the video though.
- 1:24 Bad-looking waterfalls. Looks unreal, plastic... (I hate to bring Crysis into this; since Skyrim is 1000x better in general... but Crysis did waterfalls right, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1gummzdqOo)

Other than that. Definitely the best piece of a game I've ever seen in my entire life. I only listed those "faults" because I care so much about this game and want it to be as good as possible.
Nonetheless, this will be the Game of the Year! :D
And it will be the best RPG in the world :celebration:

Maybe an ingenious modder will make Crysis-style waterfalls for Skyrim.

was I the only one who was bothered by the fact that the dragon breathed fire?
I don't know what I was expecting, but for some reason I thought TES dragons would have some... originality to them
That was probably my only complaint
other than that, the scenery was fantastic and the architecture looked great.

Strange thing to pick up on. The Alduin's wall trailer already brought to home the point that these are the fire breathing variety. As far as originality, Dragons themselves also has the shout ability don't they?

My only complaint was the waterfall, and the fact that you just didn't see enough footage of you fighting normally, without all the cinematic effects. I mean, that could almost have all been just animated for the sake of the trailer. I'd rather see a simple 20 seconds of 'uncool' gameplay where you look through the eyes of your character and he walks up and fights a bandit.

While the words that are said are words in the dragon language, I don't believe dragons do the same kind of "shouts" as humans. Unfortunately, I do not think we will have dragons talking at all (with the exception of, perhaps, alduin). And it would be even worse if that was the only type of dragon, that black scaled fire breathing dragon; no one can deny that that would get old really fast. If not, I'll simply wait for the "lore accurate dragons" mod, or something along those lines.

Heres the thing console gamers see this and go OMG that looks awesome, well yeah it does on a 6 year old archaic machine. PC gamers see this and go wait isn't that small dev CD projekt making a better looking game with a minuscule budget. We hold games to a higher standard why, well we are used to progression in technology also we spend more time and money into our hobby.

1: Effects; quite nice i have to say major improvement

2: textures; terrible quarls looks better

3: Terrian varieation: WinRaR

4: Water: o no my eye's they burn.

5: Combat: should be interesting need more before deciding.

6: shadows..........

there was a river of milk in there wich was a bit wierd. heh I think graphics-wise it looks on par with oblivion wich is understandable since they develop it to fit on the same minimum hardware (360) that has been around for a good couple of years now. But I cant say I care too much about it, they should focus on getting the gameplay tighter anyway.
