The airing of Grievances.

Ok first off I just gotta say wow, if you werent already excited about Skyrim then how can you not be after seeing that trailer? Of course while there are many who would praise the trailer for what it is you just know someone somewhere is going to show his ugly face and tell everyone about how disappointed they are with the trailer and why the game is going to svck, so instead of cluttering up the forums I decided to make a thread where people can [censored] about what they found wrong with the trailer. Of course it needs to be said that this thread is not to be taken too seriously and while it is a complaint thread we can still have a civil discussion.

For me it would have to be the Dragon Shout. Yeah I know it is one minor detail in an otherwise superb trailer however I couldnt help but feel that the shout in the trailer felt kind of weak. Now when I imagine Dragon Shouts I imagine that they would be performed by somebody with a very powerful voice, one that would shake the very foundations of the earth when the sound leaves his mouth somewhat like Christopher Lee (you can see why he was chosen to play Saruman) or Max Von Sydow but instead the actual voice actor comes off a little weak. Perhaps the other races will have more powerful voices however as I have said it is a minor issue in a superb trailer.

So what is your gripe with the trailer?

On a lighter note here is a video of Saruman being a dike that I found while trying to find an example of his voice.

The dragon looked really low res.

Which is odd because they're the main point of the game...

Texture quality isn't anything spectacular, but it'll do. The only thing I thought actually looked bad was the running water at 1:25.

I'm sure we'll see dragon texture replacers in no time if they really don't look so good. :P

The dragon looked low IQ. First it had him on the edge of a dead drop cliff. Just push the idiot over the edge already. Then it had to go and swoop in low enough for him to stick his sword in it. Just roast him with fiery death from above. I hope they're smarter than that.

Well I really didn't have any issues with the trailer. The shout felt right to me. It would've felt more powerful if it showed him using it on skeletons and watch them go flying but I could still feel the power from the dragonshout of the man and definitely felt the power from the dragon's dragonshout. The only thing that didn't feel like it fit into the video was the waterfall but it still looks fantastic for trying to replicate foam, so it's nothing to actually be disappointed at this point in VG tech.

I hate the fact it's not 4 hours long, centering around a reasonably short challenge being overcome by different classes.

But seriously, textures were a bit naff, I couldn't really tell if there were cloth physics, there wasn't enough continuous gameplay footage, it was just little bits stuck in some awesome cinimatic sequences, and it didn't come with a download of the full game.
As trailers go, pretty great. Could be better, but it hasn't turned me off the game.

Well, as I said in another thread, if the screenshots from GI was from the Xbox 360, then it is safe to assume that this trailer was.

This will always be a problem, or at least for a long time.

IRL the bigger the object the more block detail can be seen.
When painting it can be pain, when you have to paint large areas in single colours.
It can easily look like like you've just dunked it in paint, try too many shades or break it up too much with other colaurs you end up with a mess.

I have little knowledge on animation, but I'm guessing if you have to accomodate an open world with various terrains and levels.
Details on large bulky creatures with many anims could drain resources.

What got me, very minor point but they left off third person general combat shots.
A bit more bread and butter videos would have shown more of what to expect.

It already tried fire, didn't work.

Textures were markedly lacking in many places actually, but meh, ain't a big deal for me personally. The aesthetics and design choice was good looking and that is more than enough for me.

This is my opinion:

LOOKS AWESOME.
SOUNDS AWESOME.
FEELS AWESOME.
It would take too long for me to mention all the "goodies" in the trailer. There were sooo many :D
So I'll just mention the few things I'm disappointed about.

The only "faults" I could find in the video was:
- 0:36 Really sharp, unnatural edges for the snow.
- 0:55 Very low-res dragon texture? Could be the video though.
- 1:24 Bad-looking waterfalls. Looks unreal, plastic... (I hate to bring Crysis into this; since Skyrim is 1000x better in general... but Crysis did waterfalls right, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1gummzdqOo)

Other than that. Definitely the best piece of a game I've ever seen in my entire life. I only listed those "faults" because I care so much about this game and want it to be as good as possible.
Nonetheless, this will be the Game of the Year! :D
And it will be the best RPG in the world :celebration:

I didn't like the trees. The branches just look so thin and flat. I know that some trees are pretty thin looking in real life but they aren't flat. Besides that, I just continue hoping that the PC version will have enhanced graphical features, other than res and AA.

Considering it's multi-platform and a huge open world game, how the [censored] can some complain!.
REALLY?
Getting the game to look like that on supposedly out-dated consoles is truely awesome.
Some people just don't deserve games like this.
I want to say more...i'm pissed at the minute.
While everyone has a right to say whatever about the game........ahhhh....whatever....i have no time for snobs.

1. Water was 10 year old technology
2. Textures' quality is much greater artistically but looks quite muddy in close scenes, which will be much more painful in-game.
3. Lighting is simple but fine, shadowing is generally poor, and like it makes textures too dirty.
4. A general low-polyness that most people will notice only with slower paced footage.
5. Animations, in other than the dragonborn scenes, have some of that clunky 'videogame' feel that many current games don't have anymore.

May we have to wait for PC footage for the best of the technical side? Will the PC show full flare graphics or barely above consoles?

The only issues I have with the game are as follows:

  • Lowish texture res
  • Low quality animations, including the infamous swing at 1:35 (misses terribly and yet we see blood spatter)
  • Terrible water effects. Cool that it's going downhill, but man do those look bad... DAO bad...
  • The man being stabbed at 1:44 is completely expressionless. You would expect to see him in pain, but his face is blank, despite a sword being plunged into his chest.

I don't hate the trailer by any means, but these are a few of the things I might focus on in the next 8 months.

The only part I didn't like about the trailer was the running water, it looked bad. Really bad. Water in World of Warcraft looks better.
Everything else was pretty great.

Is there a HD version of the trailer? I have only seen the versions on Gamespot and Youtube so I cant really make a call on the textures just yet.
