The Altmeri Dominion and TESO

Post » Sat Feb 01, 2014 12:49 am

If I'm posting in the wrong section. I am sorry at advance.

TESO is almost here and I have some great RP idea's for my High Elf character but the question I have here is for the lore buffs. It relates to having other races within The AD. I assume in the current timeline (events during Skyrim), the AD and Thalmor are a lot more strict when it comes to race within the Dominion since some civil war around the 3rd era, but during the timeline TESO is set, are they less strict? Also the Thalmor were just created then so are they not the ruling government for the Dominon during the 2nd era? Also, are the Thalmor the same back then as they are when we encountered them in Skyrim?

These are the kind of questions I have as that first character you make allows you to join any alliance (If you pre-order). I plan to RP as a newly recruit Thalmor agent, so I wonder how to play this when I'll have Orcs, Dunmer and even Imperials running about in my side.

Thanks for answering

P.S I did spell the title wrong.

I'm not sure if the Thalmor exist yet in TESO.

On the wiki, it says that "Thalmor representatives can be contacted in the city of Marbruk"

Ah. Well, huh. I doubt they're a major political faction yet. They aren't until the oblivion crisis.

The Thalmor are the government of the Dominion in ESO.

Actually, that doesn't contradict standing lore that badly.

The earliest account of the Thalmor we had before that, is that they were installed by the (now second) Second Era Aldmeri Dominion as government of Valenwood.

That doesn't exactly rule out the possibility that they were already an institution with history back then.

Oh and OP: it's Aldmeri Dominion. You may find this useful if you want to RP. It's named after the ancient Aldmer, which are the Altmeri ideal.

Also, what "civil war" are you referring to? The Oblivion Crisis? That may only be called Civil War if you are looking at the Aurbis as a whole... maybe...

My mistake on the spelling and thanks for the information regarding the Thalmor.

As for the civil war within the Thalmor (or was it in AD), I can't recall where I read it but from what I remember it was about the direction the DA or Thalmor were heading and that it was quickly dealt with.

I don't have knowledge of a civil war within the Dominion.

If there was one, that's ESO lore.

1. It's Aldmeri Dominion, not Altmeri Dominion. Aldmeri - an homage to the Aldmer race, the original Elves. Altmer are the current race of High Elves which resemble the original race the most.

2. The Thalmor are not running the show in the Aldmeri Dominion during the time of ESO. They are still a political and somewhat militant faction, but they are not the rulers of the Dominion. This is why many consider the 3rd Aldmeri Dominion in the 4th Era to be led by the Thalmor is a complete disgrace to the former regimes that used that name.

I argue that. But I guess I can't get into details without getting a lawsuit on my hands.

By that I'm guessing beta experience and the knowledge of Queen Ayreen (or howver you spell it). She isn't supposed to be part of the Thalmor, and if she is that's a shame because that is lore-breaking.

Even discounting the Thalmor, I believe there are isolationist factions within the Dominion. Not quite the same thing but it covers the Altmer supremacy angle of things.
