So the animations are going to be terrible again? Boo.

Post » Mon Aug 08, 2011 4:03 pm

No.

Even if I could, it's not like a keyboard is going to chop off my fingers if I don't focus on it.

It's not like that wheel could chop off his fingers too... he was barely sharpening his axe. I don't see any reason why he has to focus on it so much...

Don't know about you... but I can blind-type, and I'm sure you (for a man that has occupied with smithing most of his life - referring to the NPC) that he's not looking at that sharpening wheel. It's unnecessary, it's not difficult, it's not dangerous, he's experienced, he's bored, and it will not chop of his fingers...

TC, you're never going to get perfect life-like animations. Not in 2011 at least.

L4d 2 has some pretty bad animations, the tank picking up the cement to throw, pulling people up off of ledges very often has arms/legs clipping. Not overall bad animations, but there are areas that need improvement. Dragon-age origins suffers from the same clipping problems, but you are going to find those in all games, there are tons of invisible walls and the animations for being hit off of your feet are no good at all, there is no collision detection when being hit into objects. Overall not bad, but many problems. The witcher 2 has like the same exact problems that Skyrim does, lol except for that sliding bit looks pretty bad. Bf3 I haven't really seen enough gamepley to judge but it does look amazing.

I'm not questioning that these games are good animation wise, but I wouldn't say they are far and above vastly superior. BF3 looks nice though.

This. DANCE :run:  :intergalactic:  :dmc:

I can agree with the OP. THe animations are fine, but not overkill. Its good for a open-ended rpg, but for the rest of the games, not so. Dragon Age:Origins wich is 2 years hold, had almost as smooth animations as Skyrim has now.

I have no idea what your talking about. I thought they looked great. Especially when compared to FO3 + Oblivion.

Battlefield 3 has the best animations so far and they still don't look totally real. Gamers are experiencing "Next-gen" withdrawal symptoms. They subconsiously believe next-gen is here, but in reality, it won't be until 2014.

DA:O had average animations in my opinion... Skyrim takes DA:O any time. Plus, DA:O works on point and click, which you can't really compare to a game with Skyrim's mechanics regarding combat and such (the only thing you CAN compare is the walking/running animations).

The problem is, he doesn't took at what he's doing at all. He just stares into your characters face for the whole conversation. It's no better than Oblivion's dialogue.

There were many examples of jerky transitions and sliding throughout the Quakecon demo... and it was only 30 minutes long. Games like Red Dead Redemption and BFBC2 are leagues ahead of Bethesda's weak attempts at smooth animation.

Don't get me wrong, Red Dead Redemption is one of my most favorite games, but the animations were the most glitchy thing in the whole game. People sliding, and just magically appearing when activating cannons. I've played it for countless hours, and there were many instances where things just didn't look right.

besides the fact that its in real time, and everything doesn't stop, and no massive zoom in?

I wish they'd improve side to side movement and make you only move full speed when facing forward. Plenty of games both old and new still have better movement. It's an improvement over Oblivion for sure, but I'm still a little disappointed.

RockStar and EA have loads of more cash to spend on animations.

I think (s)he meant the animations in dialogue, if so I agree with him. The facial and body animations in dialogue were smooth and believable. Also very life-like.

The animations are good for BGS.

They're pretty bad when you compare them to RAGE.

No better than Oblivion's? No lock in zoom already makes it better let alone the fact that you can do whatever while engaged in dialogue and even walk away if you want.

You really do like to dance don't you?
For you I'll place a little dance when I get Skyrim on release ^_^

OT: I forgive them for the animations...
1: It's a big game, open world, lot's can happen... you can't control everything.
2: More important is the fact that it's an alpha build... They need to go trough a couple of stages before they go gold.
