The Annihilation of Caesar and His Legion

Post » Sat Jun 05, 2010 12:18 pm

Um and neither does the Legion. They treat slaves like crap and they treat women like crap also. Once ceaser dies its all gonna go down hill.

Caesar cares about the future, the NCR cares about making money, Mr. House cares about technological progress, Yes Man doesn't care.

I agree regarding Caesar, I didn't think I'd like him but when I finally got there and didn't blow his head off straight away, he was a pretty smart man. I agree with Ace though, once he dies the Legion will fall apart fairly quickly.

If endings are anything to go by (Which they are) Lanius is a capable leader, albeit a far more brutal one.

No Legion should be destroyed house i dont care what he does. NCR have american ideals and want to make it how it was before the war. Not some damn empire of psycho Romans.

You're not very good at arguing are you?

He certainly seems to be a good military leader, sure. I don't think he has neither the vision or intelligence of Caesar though unfortunately. The way I interpret the events in new vegas, Lanius has love for his 'army' not neccessarily the legion. Once there are no more battles, or no battles that can be won. I think he's just as likely to start fighting his own men.. But thats just what I got from the game, I'm sure many others saw things differently.

I disagree with many Legion policies but I still sided with them on my first playthrough.

And that's the only thing I don't like about Caesar's Legion. They're supposed to mock the Romans, but the Romans were generally kind or neutral towards their slaves/ women.
We don't know if the Legion will go "down hill" after Caesar's death.

Slaves were considered property. But really, I don't think we can say too much on how the Legion treats their slaves until we actually see some Legion civilization.

We do see quite a lot of them. Poorly clothed and labouring with heavy loads around the Fort. We also know they tend to kill them quite often in the 'arena' even though they know that the slaves don't put up much of a fight. I also feel fairly sure that Boone killing his wife rather than let the Legion own her as a slave kinda seals the deal for me. Doesn't Caesar himself call the Legion, 'Nomads' or something similar? I'm not too sure that any 'Legion civilisation' actually exists?

Yeah, we see a few slaves in their military camps, but I don't really feel that's enough. Although slaves are indeed treated as the lowest of the low.

Their is some kind of Legion civilization, they have a capital in Arizona (Flagstaff) and they have 4 U.S. states.

I'm sure it's cleaned up now since it was 30 years ago (in the NV timeline), with a cross or two.

Well I suppose it 'might' be, however CL doesn't seem much interested in technology to me, not really sure how they'd clean up a ruined city without it? I guess they just could abandon the buildings and build their tents on open ground?
I'm guessing it can't be that good though, otherwise Caesar wouldn't be wanting to take new vegas as their new hometown? Shame that there isn't more information.

I thought for a second you were going to say, "It says so in Van Buren!" You have no idea how glad I am that I didn't know about the game guide lol.

here is what is going to happen to the legion if it doesn't use its collective "brain" and think for a second.

The legion is going to crumble due to infighting and then a resurgent enclave (or BoS/NCR wannabes) are gonna come in and deliver the final blow.

so OP do not think of it as wiping out the Legion and instead think of it as giving it the kick in the pants it needs to realize that it's going to kill itself in the end of the path it is taking

And what exactly is it the Legion needs to "think" about? Man you anti-Legion fellas can be really silly sometimes

uh-hello, if CL is going to emulate the original roman empire, that is what's going to happen, sheesh

i do not know, perhaps they need to read up on what happened to the original roman empire, in-fighting then ultimately it got broken up into what it is today

So by your logic the NCR is gonna kick off another nuclear war, right? Caesar has cherry picked what he wants to emulate, not carbon copy the entire Roman empire.
