Where are the eyes that looked so mild,
Hurroo Hurroo
Where are the legs with which you run,
Hurroo Hurroo
You hadn't an arm, you hadn't a leg,
Hurroo Hurroo
When first you went to carry a gun
Indeed your dancing days are done
Steven I hardly knew ya

CHAPTER 18: Toxicity
"How much longer?" Steven said impatiently. He was worried about the alerted guards and was now standing mainly on one foot and biteing his lip.
"Not long, the security system is suprisingly weak. I guess they weren't expecting anyone intrested in more than just looting to break in.
The bunker door slid up just enough for them to crawl under.
It was dark inside and it was obvious how worried Steven was.
They couldn't see anything in the room without the nightvision mask that only Benji carried. So he handcuffed them together with a chain at least four feet long.
Finding that the main room was mostley empty, they quickly found a hall way with another security door and guard blocking them.
Benji quickly switched off the nightvision so the guard wouldn't see the light.
He slid across the wall slowly so the guard's flashlight wouldn't fall on him.
Geir, when close enough, stabed him in the ear with the knife he kept up his sleeve. Benji frowned slightly.
Looking closely at the door panel Benji turned and said, "Its a retinal scanner."
He looked slightly sick, he knew what was coming.
Geir took back over and removed the guard's eye and held it to the scanner.
"Isn't this approach a littile.... forward?" Benji said but was ignored by Steven and Geir.
Steven went forward saying, "The poisons are just in this room."
"After you put the vials in, the mutation will start so we have to get out quickly." Steven went on as the door opened.
"But it might be a bit.....", the door opened to reveal a room full of guards and researchers.
The next three seconds that past seemed to take as long as a minute.
It was as though their sudden appearance was to awkward to comprehend.
Then Steven dove side ways and rolled to cover shooting as he went.
Seeing as the other guards where beginning to shoot back blindly and causing more of their own casualties, Benji pressed himself back against the retinal scanner.
In doing so he realized he was still holding the eye and dropped it in disgust.
"Aww I was going to use that." Geir said sadly.
"What the hell for?" Benji said as bullet bounced off the door frame and into the hallway.
Benji breathed deeply and threw himself from behind the door frame and threw a throwing knife and a vial in the general direction of the people with guns.
The vial luckily hit a guard in the face and as every bacterium on his face began to mutate he screamed and whipped around wildly, spraying bullets into his ranks.
This gave Benji enough time to get to one of the glowing vats.
He tossed a vial to Steven who was having to crouch behind something on the floor seeing as he couldn't go far from Benji due to the chain which was still connected.
A random bullet hit the chain at a good time for Steven to move to a vat.
They counted down and simultaneously injected the vials.
At first it seemed as though nothing was happening. But then a small brown blob appeared which began spreading like roots.
Benji stared in amazement. "Nothing that mutates that quickly can be stable....." he thought and realized people where still shooting.
The glass vat exploded in front of Benji and Steven. The root like material quickly began spreading through the room like very fast vines.
One of the guards screamed the name Alpha and all remaining guards began throwing incendiary grenades at it to littile effect.
Steven ran to Benji and the two of them ran back through the door they came in and quickly made their way back to the first bunker door and slid under as it closed.
Then the room behind them began exploding.
"Huh. did we plant any bombs?" Benji asked when they where safely catching their breath.
"No, where did that explosion come from?" Steven said confused.
"What explosion?" Geir said.
They looked up to see that every guard had gathered around the burning facility.
The guards looked at them confused.
Then the guards realized that they where unemployed, disgruntled, still where holding guns, and the reasons they where unemployed where standing in front of them.
One guard fired grenade from his rifle which hit Benji in the side of the head knocking him to the ground.
Through blurry vision, he saw Steven raise his hands to his arms to his face and began running back wards.
Before he could even turn all the way, however, the bullet volley began.
Steven fell back wards onto the ground. He had taken at least twenty bullets in random areas on him.
The guards moved closer, believing he was dead.
Steven looked up and managed to turn enough to pull his rifle out from under his leg.
He raised it to the guards and pulled the trigger.
When nothing happened he ejected the clip and threw it at a guard who stumbled.
Just before the guards could fire again he grabbed Benji's knife and raised it to throw at the guards.
The guards opened fire and he threw with the last of his life.
From Benji's point of view. He saw more red holes appear across his arm which then slowly fell to the now burning ground.
Then Benji faded into blackness.
What Benji didn't see though is when his knife spun in a way that it caught a pin in a guard's grenade and pulled it with it.
The explosion killed all of the guards except one who lost a large portion of his body including an arm and both legs.
It was the first knife throw to kill nine and a half people.
Steven lived just long enough to witness this.
