Is the anticipation for Brink overwhelming you?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju75BmqGkv4&feature=related's the segment of what could turn out to be a 90minute fix for all you Brink craving people out there! The movie is called District 13 and many of you might already know it. And even better, they made a sequel in 2009. :P You will notice that not only is the parkour a similarity between the movie and Brink, but the movie also seems to have a been a source of inspiration for Brink's graphic designers.

I have no idea where you get that from.
Except the guns and the parkour, Brink and District 13 don't have anythign in common at all.

To be honest...

I'm starting to have doubts.

After being thoroughly disappointed with Borderlands and then Red Dead, I'm much more wary.

I'm starting to worry about this game now.... I wasn't going to buy first anyways, having learned my lesson with RDR, I rent then keep if it's up to snuff...

But my hopes of this game being up to par is beginning to diminish

When I think of parkour I think of the fancy moves that District 13 shows off so well - which isn't surprising given that it stars David Belle. It's a very fun movie and while the plot obviously doesn't take itself too seriously it doesn't fell overly silly or tacked on. It would have been really easy for a movie like this to feel like a parkour showcase with some boring dialogue to string it together.

However I have to agree with the others, I don't see a strong connection to Brink. Brink certainly has elements of parkour but I'm really not expecting the fancy moves. Brink has very fluid running and sliding and jumping but it's not trying to be a parkour simulator like say, Mirror's Edge. In fact Splash Damage has been very up front that they aren't attempting to make a game like that.

There are parkour elements in brink, but it's pretty basic I think.

On a sidenote: There's a difference between actual gameplay and cutscenes in game and/or teasers/trailers before release. Remember the guy dodging the rocket launcher bullet by doing a flip. We won't be able to do that ingame.

After being thoroughly disappointed with Borderlands

What did you find wrong with that?

OT I muself have watched both B13 and B13U and I don't really think they are very much like Brink. The actual Parkour, shooting mix is kinda like it but they just don't seem similar to me.

From what I've read(quick wiki check on the starting off point)
A group of people are held without resources(Resistance) by the Government(Security) within a city contained by a wall(Container city).
So yeah there is a bit of a similiarity beyond that initial Parcour thing.

I own both on dvd... and they will not help as much as actual parkour does. After work, I'm hitting the school grounds down the block from me.

I had a # of problems with Borderlands.

Basically, it's just the first draft. The first of it's kind. As such, there are a lot of areas it just didn't get it.

It was a GREAT indicator of things to come.

it lacked abilities... so much potential here, but they were pretty limited.
Loot was... repetitive. Should have included more item types, more modifiers, more weapon types, including all kinds of melee.
Melee (beyond the butstroke, but if you actually equiped a melee weapon... non-exisant in the game) should have used 3rd person. only applicable in game to Brick berserking... but if they added melee weapons, them too.

I dunno, It was fun, but just got old.

I look forward to more new improved games in the genre.

Loot and level up shooters have lots of potential IMO. Borderlands is, in my eyes, kinda like Diablo 1... I just can't wait for #2 :)

Some of my BCBC2 friends have Borderlands, and I was more than a little surprised by how much I have enjoyed it. At times it can feel like a bit of a drag/grind, but there are many other times when it is just the ticket. I certainly appreciate dying much less than when playing FPS games. :)

I love that movie. David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli for the win.

Funny because I used a clip from Cyril Raffaelli in the latest Die Hard movie as how to play a light.

I got to 50 on my soldier
38 on my hunter
30 on my siren
and 25 on Brick

I played it a lot for a while....

"Severely Disappointed" is an exaggeration I guess...

But really, it has SOOOOOOOOOOO much potential....

so I am disappointed really... cause I know how good it CAN be, but isn't.

Should have MULTIPLE ACTIVATED abilities for each character.

It just got really repetitive I guess

I was really excited for BRINK when I watched the trailer with the dual knife guy but now I'm not.

I wanted to just free run everywhere and knife people.
I guess this is the wrong game for that.

U know that ohk knifing in this game is quite possible but takes skill, as a 1337 knifer you are I would suggest mw2 commando, getting kills with that setup could classify you as a god in many religous cults.
