The Apotheosis of Tiber Septim/Talos..?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:35 am

So basically, I've been looking into the history of the Eight-and-One (Or Nine Divines), and Tiber Septim is the one that always strikes me as...odd...

TIL has this to say about Tiber Septim reaching godhood status:

"n Morrowind, Tiber Septim was mysteriously (and inexplicably) combined with the eight Aedra to form the Imperial Cult. There were no longer individual temples to each deity."

But is there a how or a why on how this occurred? I mean, the Prophet in Anvil sure didn't seem like he gave Tiber Septim as much respect as he gave the other Eight Divines, so I'm guessing his ascension to god-status caused much qualm and distress amongst the worshipers of the Eight Divines. So is there any particular reason on why something like this happened? Did the clergy just say: "Oh, Tiber Septim is now a god with equal footing as the other Eight Divines. Worship Talos in all his glory!" If so, that doesn't seem natural. I understand TS was a renowned hero, probably the greatest to ever walk across the soil of Tamriel, but to achieve god-status...?

Could anyone help me out here?

P.S.: I've only very recently gotten into the Lore from this wonderful series, most especially religious lore, so please excuse me if I use terms like 'Apotheosis' incorrectly. Further assistance on thing's I've said wrong would be most appreciated from the lore-buffs out there.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe he was favoured by the Eight Divines so they gave him power or perhaps they needed somebody to replace Lorkhan.

I'm not the "Tiber Septim is Ysmir Kingmaker is Zurin Arctus" buff, but as far as I know it that Tiber used the Numidium. Everytime, the Numidium was used, there was a dragon break, the Red Mountain errupted and the Mnemoli appeared. Vivec himself kept the Heart of the World and so Arctus has to create the Mantella to give the Numidium life. I don't know, if Arctus knew what he created, but at the end, the Mantella was a stone like the Chim-et Adabal - Amulet of Kings. With this stone and some mythic rituals people like Dagoth Ur or the Tribunal are able to transform them into half gods.

I'm not sure, why Tiber is now such mighty and the Tribunal wasn't - infact, the Tribunal used a stronger stone than Tiber, but who cares? Tiber did the same thing like Mannimarco. He became a halfgod and left Mundus to hang out with other gods. I'm not very sure, but I think, that the dragon break at Rimmen, Elsweyr:

http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/complete_dragonbroke.shtml

"Do you mean, where were the Khajiit when the Dragon Broke? R'leyt tells you where: recording it. 'One thousand eight years,' you've heard it. You think the Cyro-Nordics came up with that all on their own. You humans are better thieves than even Rajhin! While you were fighting wars with phantoms and giving birth to your own fathers, it was the Mane that watched the ja-Kha'jay, because the moons were the only constant, and you didn't have the sugar to see it. We'll give you credit: you broke Alkosh something fierce, and that's not easy. Just don't think you solved what you accomplished by it, or can ever solve it. You did it again with Big Walker, not once, but twice! Once at Rimmen, which we'll never learn to live with. The second time it was in Daggerfall, or was it Sentinel, or was it Wayrest, or was it in all three places at once? Get me, Cyrodiil? When will you wake up and realize what really happened to the Dwarves?"

Muthsera,

The best explanation that I can find is the article, http://www.imperial-library.info/fsg/fallenfoolarticle01.shtml, written by a member of The Forum Scholar's Guild named "Fallen Fool".

I believe that you will find a great many of your questons answered.

Hmmm, that article in itself was quite intriguing, at least now I better understand how TS conquered most of Tamriel and such... I get an idea from there on how he became a god, but it's still nothing more than a simple hypothesis.

In any case, thank you, everyone, for all of your help. It was most appreciated.
