I'm the [censored] Archmage

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:19 pm

Stupid Wizard Court of the Jarl. Quit telling me to join the [censored] Winterhold College. I'm the mother fudging [censored] archmage of the Winterhold College. I don't need to join. I saved the college. Killed a lot of bad guys, etc. So...does the AI acknowledge this? Nooo.

It's getting very annoying, like I get no recognition. -.-

I remember Todd saying this wasn't going to happen, too. Did the first few parts of the main quest, and it had me thinking "hey, he didn't lie." Became Arch-Mage and quickly learned otherwise. Oh well. It's also irritating that not even your fellow College members recognize your position at times. Like you're still just another Apprentice. I'd like it if they made spells super cheap when you're Arch-Mage and are buying from one of the instructors there, but this can be fixed without much effort. The same goes for the Companions, the Legion, the Stormcloaks, and I'm sure every other guild.

It is not AI. The NPC creator was too lazy to add a new line of dialog and conditions... :/

they seriously need to remove random comments like that... restrict those to when i actually INITIATE dialogue with someone and not every freakin time i walk by them. it really gets ridiculous when guards insult me for being the new member of the companions, hail me as its leader, then threaten to haul me off to the dungeon.

in oblivion, people made comments like this ONCE then just said "hi" or whatever. when i can use OBLIVION as an example of good ai, there is a SERIOUS problem...

It could be that the lines are there, and that the triggers/conditionals are not properly set. I mean, everything else seems to have reaction dialogue, like simply joining the Companions. It just seems that they are messed up for the Mage College.

Not sure if you can look for dialogue lines without the Creation Kit, but if any of you uber modders out there who can mod without mod tools can find out, it would be appreciated :D

@ Frotality: They did the same thing in Oblivion. They would randomly react to your armor, your skills, and your guild associations and they would do it more than just once. The difference here in Skyrim is that, for some reason, no one acknowledges anything pertaining to the Mage's College, yet they react to your status in other guilds. Even the DB has the occasional guy who will say, "Hail Sithis!" when you pass by.

It's an easy fix with the CK. Least they don't say "you been mixing up some potions?" I like them to keep it half way generic like "well met friend" or whatever the best. Maybe a few acknowledgement statements are fine. I was a little annoyed to hear that too. I'm not the arch mage yet, but it's like dude shut up I did enroll already!

The other Companions and other people at the College notice my position (head of both) but I still get 'You're that new Companion, do you bring the mead?' even though I have completed the quest line. That said, guards have commented on

me wiping out the Glenmoril Witches etc.

I like the NPCs a lot more in Skyrim than in Oblivion, they comment on your weapons, your skills etc. if I've had a fireball in my hand they've said something like 'Don't go around burning down buildings' and stuff like that.

I fought [censored] monsters of peril. Nearly died. Risked my neck for the College, risk more than my neck to think about it. And no one calls me an Archmage. It feels like my position is useless. I think the only place that I have been recognized by anyone as the correct title I am is in the Dark Brotherhood as

every other guild I'm treated as if I haven't nearly died half the time.

I'm against the title Arch-Mage to begin with. Too powerful sounding for that organization.

I should probably bring up the fact that no random NPC recognizes you as Dragonborn. Even if they just saw you kill and absorb the souls of 50 dragons.

I'm sick of people telling me i'm a mage or "I'm watching you sneak thief" when in fact my sneak skill is around 20 and pickpocket is less and the same goes for my magic skills as i am a warrior. They need to sort their lives out.

Really? Because in my game the whole town was surrounding me, "Dragonborn". And then they went on with their lives and never recognized me as such again and treated me like any ordinary person. It was really flippin weird.

I've had NPCs run up to the dragon and makes remarks if I could be the dragonborn or being shocked I svcked up it's soul.

No NPCs are going to recognise you as dragonborn because it's a childrens bed time story & became a myth.

Yes that is definitely one of the broken things in the game. No one knows what you did. I'm the soon to be head of the thieves guild and brought back many treasures and I'm still being treated like I'm no one. Bethesda really dropped the ball on that. They should have let Obsidian write the script.

Yeah, they see you take the soul and remark about it, though not about YOU; and after that little gathering event from killing a dragon, the only types of idle dialogue you hear about Dragonborn is "You know, I got to thinking maybe I'm Dragonborn and just don't know it" or "I wonder what the Graybeards do with a Dragonborn."

They don't seem to recognize that I truly am Dragonborn.

I wanna know how the meeting went down when Bethesda decided that having characters recognize your status isn't so important, but having them attempt to return stuff you purposefully dropped is top ****ing priority.

It was funny when I was send on a quest to retrieve some ancient sword, got nearly turned into a zombie by some crazed necro b**ch and upon completing the quest, quest giver teaches me a little about smithing.
He teaches a guy wearing Legendary Dragon Scale armour and having 101 in smithing proficiency "a little bit about smithing".

At least some guards recognize that I am enchanter and comment on "How I perhaps could enchant his dull blade", though it stops here. Once had a spare set of Legendary Iron armour, decided to give it to Jarl of Winterhold personal body guard. Got arrested twice for placing items in her pockets :D

This is the kind of thing that disappoints me. I really thought Skyrim was going to push TES ahead in terms of this kind of thing. Nope, I'm not sure I believe there are 70 or so voice actors either. If I felt like being very generous I'd say I've maybe heard 20 different ones.

I cry a little inside when a guard helps me kill a dragon then turns around and says "Staying out of trouble, kinsman?" or I'm running through the streets of Whiterun trying my best to avoid eye contact with any of the residents because I've heard their dialogue 100 times now.

Olfrid Battle-Born really gets on my nerves. Can't recall his line off of the top of my head but whenever I see him he's always going on about how he's sure I've heard of him. Of course I've heard of you, every time I'm in town you announce yourself to me.

Might sound like I'm being a bit nit-picky here but it's the principal... In a game like this it's the small things that matter...

Not going to say I don't like the game because I love the game. I'm just disappointed that NPC's weren't nearly as improved as I was hoping they'd be.

The "Hey could you enchant my sword" line actually sounds incredibly dirty when said to a female character.
