The Arena Announcer

Post » Tue Feb 22, 2011 9:12 pm

How does the Arena announcer (the voice you hear in the Arena) amplify his voice? I haven't seen any info about the 'technology' in Tamriel to do this; does he use magic?

That's a very interesting question. I'm going to assume he uses some form of alteration magic.

It seems to be because of magic but he's the only guy in the game who uses it!

My guess would be a very long horn.
Imagine this. An open brass tube that connects to several hollow, branching tubes that all wire around the arena and come out the walls in places, expanding into a horn shape. Anything yelled into the brass opening would vibrate through the tubes and amplify all around the stadium!
Like yelling down a connection of tunnels.

... I just put way too much thought into that.

This is a good question. It has been discussed on the forums before.

I think the conclusion was that he uses a Fortify Voice on Self spell.

Why does it have to be something so complicated like that? It's not hard to simply talk into a hollow cone-shaped object to make his voice louder. The Arena looks huge from the outside, but inside it's not actually all that big, Im sure his voice reaches everyone comfortably..

Besides, he's voiced by Wes Johnson.. There's nothing he can't do..

If you've ever been inside a Greek Amphitheater, then you will know why. It is constructed for center stage, as well as sound. Sound waves in these "semi-bowls" travel so well, that you should be able to hear combatants whisper to each other.

Remember when Sheogorath does his 'BIG BOOMING SKY VOICE?'
Same deal. Arena announcer is the Daedric Prince of Butt Whooping.

Read up on how auditoriums/ amphitheaters work. Its a design trait in round architecture. Romans were masters at building colosseums where the entire audience could hear the speaker in the center of the circle just fine. Plus the voice actor has experience being an announcer at the Washington Capitals' hockey stadium. :P

The same way the Romans did it, it's all about the architecture.

Arenas are natural sound amplifiers by design. Plays were held in arenas and amphitheaters, quite a while back in time. The depression and circular design of arenas and amphitheaters naturally enchance voice intensity, and there is my answer.

I just realized that the player never actually sees the Arena announcer and how can he make his voice effective if he doesn't stand in the middle of the Arena? My only guess is he uses an invisibility spell and gets out of the way before the gates go down. :P

This. Read about them in Children of the sky, they can blow down entire city gates with their voices alone

As others have said, maybe he uses a horn thingy, or is a Nord.

If he's Nordic, he just yells REALLY LOUDLY!!!

Otherwise, he uses a megaphone and the archtecture to make himself heard.
