The Arena

Would you like to see The Arena form TES IV return, or something similar? What would you like to see changed about it?

This. I was always upset when I would return near dead, only to hear

"That was AMAZING! Everyone LOVES YOU! You are the GRAND CHAMPION!
...here's an extra hundred Septims."

Yes, definitely. And give it an appropriately themed look and feel with lots more people in the stands.

Perhaps only allow the use of certain weapon types native to Skyrim (?). And animals as opponents, perhaps with teamed fighting, you and a buddy together against 4 wild creatures, e.g. You could also be able to fight slaves, like 4 of them chained together. Maybe even on horseback.

And then these fights shouldn't be to the death. That would also open up for the ability to bet on yourself.

I would say more dynamic fights then just hit twice raise shield hit twice raise shield. In other words they always did the same tactics for all the different fights. The only different ones were when you got to fight the archers and mages. I would also like to see the option of fighting people after you finish it instead of just creatures.

And perhaps more "Wild Arenas" like. Ind old times in Scandinavian rich men had their slaves fight each other and then they made bet on which slave would win. So a storyline that included you starting as a slave or just a no one, fighting for your master in various locations and arenas and lastly become your own master could be epic :D

Maybe have the top caged in and add some cliff racers per chance??? No eh? Nobody like that idea?

How about Squib fighting? (did I spell squib wrong?)

Because of Morrowind and Oblivion, I would really really love to see a Cliff Racer go agaisnt a Slaughter Fish.

I'm pretty sure we'll have the Arena in Skyrim I mean its the homeland of the Nords of course there's going to be fighting and the arena is perfect for that.

interesting topic. i loved the arena in oblivion, though it got a little old too fast. maybe some randomized opponents so you dont meet the same guys every time you make a new character would be good?
and how about if people recognize you as the champion they would fear you and avoid trouble or something like that? dunno..

Randomized fights would definitely add to the longevity of the Arena. I like the idea of your fame affecting the opponent's morale. Not even sure morale has an affect other than running away from you in Oblivion, but it could lower their willingness to attack, or perhaps even their combat ability.

Yes, I want it back!
Make the opponents harder to kill, bring more opponents, and once you're grand champion, a champion comes to fight you every now and then.

Yes, with a longer storyline, better fights, more diverse fights, and something actually worthwhile after becoming Grand Champion.

Not just longer, but more diverse. I would like to see Arena related quests that are not just death-matches. Maybe something like having to go out and perform a great deed to drum up support for your next match or something. Or being framed for cheating and having to redeem your reputation. That would be cool.

Yes. However if it is to return, the Oblivion levelling system has to go. The thought of being Grand Champion whilst being a Level 1 is ridiculous.

1) cast appropriate summon deadra spell
2) cast gerneral fortify statistics on touch spell on said daedra
3) cast invisibility
4) profit

sadly that works for every encounter in the game and requires 0 skill. (player skill not skill in the spells :P )

I dont think a colluseum like arena would fit skyrim...

it certainly fits the capital city of the land.

but skyrim should have something more underground and gritty.. like that first arena in the desert you see in the movie gladiator.

The arena should be able to generate opponents for your level, so that you could always come back for a challenging fight. And yes, it should return.

That's ridiculous. The fix would be in on every fight! Just bet all you gold against yourself every time and make sure you lose by not doing anything!

Betting on yourself would mean you'd have to win to cash in...I'm not sure how it works where you're from, but here you get nothing if you lose.

There could also be smaller arenas in each city, and a big one in the capital. Then you could gain renown and fame in the smaller arenas before being accepted to fight in the big one.

He meant betting on your opponent. You bet millions on your opponent winning, then you intentionally lose. You make millions and live to tell the tale.

Or a barroom (mead-hall?) fight circuit, where you go around having semi-legal matches in taverns. It's more underground, more wild, and more frontiersy.

But I do think that an arena type competition would not necessarily be out of place in Skyrim.

What might be even better than that, though, would be a more broad and bigger type of contest that included hunting, fighting, survival and endurance. You would have a guild to organize "matches" and the object would be to go out into the wild and kill a particular beast or enemy first, or an actual fight, or a race. It seems like this would better suit the rugged, outdoorsy spirit of the Nords.
