The Army of Skyrim

Post » Sat Mar 13, 2010 3:29 pm

I was thinking what if we have to get the army of Skyrim to help us fight off the dragons? Is it going to be as big as the small army of Cyrodil or is it actually going to be a resonable size so when I see it I won't be thinking the Akavir must have been ret***s if they were defeated by such small armies.

Obviously bigger. Oblivion was not very well coded, thus it started lagging with merely a few NPCs. An "army" (say 50 people?) in Oblivion would have given you like 2-5FPS (or a crash...).
With a new engine, this really should be changed, otherwise that'd be a huge disappointment. The technology is far more advanced and efficient today than outdated Gamebryo.

I agree that Oblivion could have been coded better, although a very pretty looking game in many aspects with a newer Engine it should run MUCH more smoothly and efficiently! If this is indeed the case then they should be able to create not only better looking environments but also hopefully have some larger armies of an Epic scale (for the TES series anyhow!) It would be monumentally dissapointing if the army consisted of 10 soldiers!

The new game engine should allow for this so lets hope it follows through!

I like how the battle for the Imperial City against the legions of Mehrunes Dagon was supposedly supported by the enitre imperial legion, whereas when i played th game it felt more like a rag-tag band of mismatched skirmishers.

Depends on the engine. Gamebryo was terrible for processing lots of things at a time. If the AI in large battles is simplified and the new engine is better at handling it then I have no doubt that the battles till at least be a bit bigger. It's not really at the top of my priorities though.

I must admit, having spent the time to recruit each city to my aid, severe disappointment was coped with when I reached the battlefield. Though, remember Oblivion was the pinnacle of next gen games when it came out, so if they made the battle huge most computers would explode, killing thousands.

It was cutting edge, all the TES games have been when they arrived :) My PC handled Oblivion just fine until it decided to start to crash for some reason, I am now playing it on the PS3 and on a 52 inch screen, while not running as smoothly as on the PC it sure looks pretty :P

I got my pc in early 2007 and it ran everything in the game without lagging so they could of increased it going by the detail you had set it at or something similar.

Nords are stronger then Imperials so I'm not worried about the Army of Skyrim if they have an army. The GI mag needs to come out like now its going to be a long week.

For the specific areas where large battles may take place, they could do what they did with the Arena in Oblivion. They could place low poly-count figures in the backgrounds (in inaccessible areas) that appear to be fighting but really aren't just to give off the illusion of larger scale battle, right?

I like this idea.

Lol, i agree... Idk i wasnt really paying attention to the people aiding me in the battle for bruma but as to how many people i could kill. I was like level 27 when i stated the main quest and was all powerfull... But yes i would love bigger battles... I mean its not impossible i mean look at halo reach they made the battles ten times bigger (exaggeration) with out sacrificing quality so if Bungie can do it Bethesda can do it

I'm saving money since right now in order to upgrade my computer to a 6-Core CPU + 12 GBs of RAM + nVidia Geforce GTX 580 1,5 gbs, so they better make &%$ awesome battles with HUNDREDS or even THOUSANDS of NPC's, or else :)
