Why can't you get into the Undercroft? It doesn't require a key to unlock.

The door is locked and it says "This lock can't be picked. You need a key"

Did you steal the key before waiting 24 hours? Apparently that's a known bug. I'd suggest reloading a save before that time. If you're on the PC, you can open the command console by clicking the ~ key, then click on the door to select it, then type in "unlock" and it'll unlock.

Honestly, I don't remember stealing a key for this quest at all, I thought you could just pick the lock. Regardless, it emphasizes that you should wait 24 hours BEFORE stealing the key and then it should unlock.

Have you gone into the oblivion.ini file and made sure the "bAllowConsole" line is set to 1?

That's why you should always make multiple save files, not just for Oblivion, but for pretty much every game.

At least you didn't have to redo anything! Now make sure to make multiple saves just in case. :P

I done that once. Ran around Charrol after the fake murder. Looked back after a couple of laps. Swords flying everywhere.

I just did this quest for the first time. When I went in to save Francois he was standing next to the bed, and I had the ability to initiate conversation with him, but he didn't talk and I couldn't administer the antedote. Then, I waited for the full 24 hours, and he was lying down, and it worked. Weird!!

First, make sure you've gotten Quest Log #40. If not, then you've done something wrong or it's a glitch.

#40
"I have fled Chorrol, and Hides-His-Heart has not been killed. I must now wait a day, so Motierre can be discovered and placed in the Chorrol Chapel Undercroft. There, I must find Motierre and administer the antidote that will revive him."

Also, if you killed Hides-His-Heart you've failed. That may be a reason why you can't enter.

Or it may just be the simple door glitch. The command "unlock" should do the trick.
