The Assault Scope: Redundant?

Post » Wed Aug 12, 2009 2:48 am

I'd be curious to hear other people's opinion of this attachment. I've been using it for a while on the SCAR, for variety's sake. Problem is, it's benefits seem to be nonexistant when compared to the Reflex Sight. In fact, it just appears to be harder to use up close, and less accurate at longer ranges (though, I could well be wrong on this). Any thoughts/observations as to it's usefulness or lack thereof over the Reflex?

Yeah that scope is really sensitive when I aim with it, I stay away for that reason

Give an LMG an Assault Scope + Aim Enhance and stay some distance from your targets... you're set.

The SCAR is not the optimal gun to use with an assault scope.

The fast-paced nature of the gameplay and small map size means it's dificult to find a situation where the Assault scope is useful; possibly with the exception of crash site, where you kinda know where your enemies will be.

Assault scopes are more useful in games with larger maps like BFBC2, but for variety's sake they're in there anyway.

There is only certain maps that the Assault scope actually comes in useful. In general it is true, due to the close combat nature of the game, that it becomes redundant and no use.

Ah, my bad. I phrased the question poorly; I've noticed specifically that visual recoil increases when ADSing with it. Far less so then CoD's utterly useless ACOG, so I wasn't at all certain. Thanks though!

I use Acog in Black OPs effectively and well as in BC2. Assualt scope is poorly implemented.
All I see is ppl running around with feline or shotgun.

Long range players should have some advantage

Agreed on map size for making assault scope a little less handy compared to reflex sight, though I find it sweet when using an assault on semi-auto mode.
Other reason why I don't use it often anyways is that my fps drastically drops with assault scope. Go figure x)

They do have an advantage, you just said it; they play at long range.

However, the nature of the game is relatively small maps and fast moving players, you can't change that just to make something more useful for you.

Long range play DOES work in this game, but unlike most games, it requires you to be very active and change 'perch' with the action. In maps like lighthouse this means that to be competitive you need to be moving up and down the map behind your lines to use your range effectively and maximise your kill count.

The increased zoom actually helps in a lot of situations. I enjoy using it with SCAR single-shot.

Never use the Assault Scope unless you're planning an ambush with friends, otherwise it's practically redundant. For long range either use Red Dot or Sniper Scope and for short range Red Dot or Iron Sights.

I find it fun but it takes some practice to get very good with it. So yes is it redundant but I love aiming for the head when I am at mid range. Plus if you get use to ads speed for it you can hit a lot of targets with out having to unscope. Perfect for the HK60 or SCAR. Grendel am sorry to say is much better with the red dot. :P Figures.

I find there to be a momentary lag when switching to the assault scope on my old machine. I do find it better at mid-long range encounters but overall the reflex is much more useful.
