The auto-Zoom KILLS this game (and other design problems)

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 9:30 pm

I've spent a cool $10 on this game buying robots. My vault has been at 200 dwellers for a week now.

However, the automatic zoom / pan feature absolutely destroys this game. Here's SOME of the ways it hurts everything.

  • When Raids occur, the auto-zoom will whip the camera away from healing dwellers to things like couple screwing animations. Priorities folks! my folks are dying. You're stealing my CAPS by forcing my attention away from the deaths.

  • The unnecessary 3D engine of the game has the performance down to a minimum already, so clicking around the vault trying to respond to emergencies often convinces iOS that I've double-clicked something I haven't...thus more zooming, more death, more stealing my CAPs for unnecessary resurrections.

  • When clicking a dweller to heal them, the camera zooms around often covering up dwellers in the process. So if you have a THREE-SEGMENT room, it's W I D E. If I click a dweller to the right side of the room, the camera ZOOMS to the right covering up everyone dying on the LEFT. You have to scroll everything around to click the dying dweller...most often it's simply too late, dead dweller, stolen CAPS due to design flaw.

  • When you're managing a tedious area of the game like assigning dwellers in a 200 dweller fault, the last thing you want is a whip-pan zoom to an raider report.

  • When building, zooming the camera is the last thing we need. Zoom completely OUT of anything.

Character stacking nightmares!

  • So the robots are 50% great and 50% a pain in the ass. They ALWAYS seem to moved right where you're clicking. The stack on top of dwellers during battle, thus making it impossible to select them to heal them. Dead dweller, stolen CAPS.

  • Regardless if one has a robot, the characters stack on each other. Clicking the stack should at a minimum select the dweller that is most injured. NOPE! IT selects the character in the highest z-axis. Dead dweller behind, stolen CAPS.

  • We REALLY need a dialog system to heal dwellers during battle. The game is simply not designed to facilitate healing anyone. It gets directly in the way causing deaths, thus stolen CAPS at no fault of the player.

Need mode to KILL the 3D view after 200 dwellers!

  • The 3D feature of this vault is cute, but totally unnecessary. I've tried this game on blazing fast Android and iOS devices, and it simply slows everything down to unFUN levels.

  • The clicking event handlers can't figure out what's going on if the camera is in any view but the most zoomed out view, which is FINE. Please allow us to zoom completely out and LOCK the camera!

Features we need!

  • We need robots that heal dwellers

  • We need a dialog that tracks DEAD dwellers.

  • Killing Raiders should result in CAPS and the accumulation of ALL their gear!

  • We need dwellers to have the ability to heal themselves. I have 75 stimpacks in cache at all times. If you don't want to help with the camera zoom problem, then at least let them heal like the wasteland folks do.

  • Offer a feature, pay or otherwise, to bring back dwellers INSTANTLY. Call it the "Pathfinder" bonus or something. They take a short-cut home or something. Charge for it. Allow us to build them. Whatever.

  • Allow us to assign dwellers to volunteer emergency squads...Fire? No problem, a brigade of dwellers will run to help if there aren't enough dwellers in a room to do the job. Click the dweller, and inside their pop-up, you have FIRE or ANIMALS or RAIDERS or NONE. You click whatever one you want, and they are assigned.

  • Dweller dialogs need to indicate their preferred job. Dragging over rooms monitoring yellow and green doesn't work. You can drop someone on green from a training room, and no credit is given.

  • Increase the vault cap by at least 50! As long as you keep the camera OUT, the game will run fine with probably 300. You have too much ground for a 200 cap vault. Who would ever build down that far?

I specially hate when a room goes on a outbreak, and the health bars of dwellers appear then suddenly disappear, or if they do not appear at all. This folks, is priceless.

The auto-dismiss dialog is also fun. You've got a dweller selected who's losing health during a battle. Then the game just .... suddenly decides you don't need that dialog leaving you to scramble through their Z-Index character stacking nightmare to get the same person selected, and of course they've reshuffled so that's impossible leaving one with a dead dweller, stolen CAPs. All easy to fix, but needs to be sorted out. ;)

Or they do appear, but they all overlap eachother because they are behind eachother.

If they don't want to deal with that, then at least allow healing by the list and not selecting every individual dweller in the room rapidly losing health.

I doubt the 3d effect is going away. It isn't some cheap parralax effect added, each room is an actual 3d model.

I agree it's unnecessary but removing and replacing it would take a god awful amount of time.

3D graphics isn't source of problem. More graphic intensive games than FOS runs smoothly on modern smartphone. Smartphone GPU can handle it easily.

The main culprit is animation, especially resource ready/harvesting animation in green color. The animation bogs down whole hardware and put excessive burden to graphics system. When screen is covered with many such animations, game become jerky and unresponsive.

Remove or at least tone down the resource animation. Then game will run smoothly and become much responsive even on old snartphone.

IMHO:

- Remove auto-zoom for paired dwellers.

- Restrict max scale of auto-zooming with room's width

- Agree with:
