The Bag Space Issue - thread 5

This is the fifth thread on the bag space issue.

It's clear that the current system will not work even at the early levels of crafting and playing - bag and bank space is far too limited to store the crafting mats we need as well as play normally with storing some gear for higher levels and giving gear to alts and so on.

Here's what we need to solve this situation:

  • have separate crafting mats bags
  • also (and most importantly) have separate crafting mats bank space
  • increase the stack size to well over 100 (or even over 200 if that is indeed the new stack size as seen in that dev crafting video - while a step in the right direction it would be better and more efficient if it was even bigger).
  • I would also desire a bank storage separate from my alts rather than all shared (and have the shared storage as an extra space for transferring items to alts seeing as we can't send alts mail), though this is less critical if the crafting mats bank storage is made (and made well, with higher stack sizes).

And maybe we could have a little gnome who follows us around and carries everything for us...and even does our crafting work for us when we log off to sleep so we can just have everything handed to us and don't actually have to make any decisions and can do every single thing available all the time. That will be fun and challenging.....not. Personally I don't see any problem with having to make decisions on a direction for crafting and what to carry and what to drop. After being in 3 betas I found that that forces me to make some hard decisions, which is the whole point of rpgs.

Previous threads were closed for post count and per OP request. So another one can be created, so long as forum rules are followed, if people still wish to discuss the topic.

Thanks for the assist, all I'm doing is creating a place for discussion.

@the others above - no need to troll a thread just because you disagree. We made it through 3 other threads (and a half if you count the other one) without things getting out of hand (even the people who disagreed argued politely), would appreciate it if the trolling stopped now.

Because we havn't made a hard decision to sink 130 (or 50 for bare minimum) skill points to make a crafting character already. Asking for a bit more inventory space clearly invalidate all the other hard decision people have made.

It should be called thread 5 though I think?

Anyway, I'm just waiting for the feedbackmail to add to the /feedback report I send in ingame.

I've kinda accepted that there won't be a bigger inventory, but I hope the stacks will be made 999 each, and that items with no monetary value will not be counted against the inventory slots.
I think quest items already are set apart, so let's do the same for the vanity pets and possibly for the various unique disguises.

How is disagreeing trolling. It's a discussion. Are only the people who agree with you allowed to post?

Cont from last thread

im gonna kick myself for this....

You aint just gonna have every trait gem on you at all times. If you somehow manage to find EVERY UNIQUE trait gem and hold onto one of each type you MIGHT start running into inventory space issues but even assuming you have 1 of each type on you at all times there STILL shouldnt be issues with space. Same as your "6 costumes by lvl 12" number (which faction did you play that you got 6 costumes btw im curious) you just sound really disengenuous.

Why should you vendor racial gems? Because they vendor for like 12 gold and cost about 20. Any you find in the world you make 12 gold on and if you accidently Buy more than your gonna use on crafting you net a loss of about 10gold/per which might as well be nothing. this guy damanta's numbers are laughable.

This is pretty much spot on with my experience. Except you arent forced to "delete all baits, potion, food mats" or to "give up on other activities(sic)". You make the choice to 'focus on crafting' by keeping mats (which lets say means doing more than 2 professions because I think we can agree 2 professions is very easy to maintain)

I fail to see the problem with having 20-30 free spaces to run around with especially since we're talking about weekend beta numbers with inventory cap of 60-70 which can go up with upgrades + horses + still not factoring in the bank. The Bank is the perfect spot for your 10~ trait gems which further illustrates my point that if you are intelligent about how you manage yourself you can easily maintain 3-4 professions on one character. And still have room.

And just for reference. In Vanilla wow, the vast majority of players ran around with 80 bag slots on their character. Most players were running around with 16 slot bags, if you were good/very lucky you could get 18, so absolute MAX you would have was 88 inventory slots.

I went into last weekends beta with the intent to test for the plausibility of bag usage across 6 alts. My findings revealed the previous system to have worked well. It's obviously a progressive mechanic but I found that one can be very efficient with space left over. The newly added space seems rather generous to me.

The other thread was really a poll, so it wasn't really a continuation. Plus the OP asked it to be locked and for us to start another one if we wanted.

By the way, it should be pointed out that when you're in a crafting station you can use mats that are in your bank, so you have quite a bit of space if you manage it right.

Yeah I think for a new player getting more slots early on will be less jarring and allow them to better settle in to a few crafts they want to do.

Agreed on costumes and vanity pets. Costumes less so but pets definitely. Theres a reason wow added the Pet tab and now a "Toy Tab"

This whole problem would go away if they made the inventory space 'per tab' rather than total (and introduced a new tab to the bank so there was a personal AND a shared tab in there). I really can't see why they refuse to do it.

I oprefer to lose myself in my chosen 'virtual world', which I find impossible to do when I have to micromanage inventory and run to town every ten or twenty minutes or so. I also find it frustrating to create a new character who's bank is automatically full of my previous character's items.

I think they still need to make a crafting mats bank (one space for every type of mat, like how GW2 did it) - that can be shared across the entire account with no problems. Increased stack size would also help there.

That's the whole point. If you're truly immersed in a virtual world, having the ability to carry every single thing you find would detract from that. If you want to feel like you're truly there, then you'd be making decisions on what to discard so you can travel easier...so don't pick up everything. Prioritize and be selective. That's roleplaying.

This is starting to get annoying. It's like people think that if they shout louder they will be listened to. Unfortunately sometimes this happens - and guess what? It's always a vocal minority because the people who are happy with the system DO NOT post about it.

At this point, as this is becoming some sort of lobbying nuisance, I would say a flat no, no changes are necessary and needed, just because some people are so annoying about it.

I agree, but I have resigned myself to make do with what we get.
I'll be looking into starting a "crafting" guild (I'm going to draft at least 9 RL friends into a guild in order to get a guildbank, so that I know that I can bop them over the head when they do stupid things with it).

This system wouldnt remotely work because then you could literally do every profession in the game without any worry.

Skill points are 1 limiting factor but inventory space is definitely supposed to be another to deter people from doing every profession on one toon.

If they leave it as is we'll have no choice but to use any mechanic we can to do what we need to do.
