The Battle for Alaska

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:49 pm

Roland adverted his gaze to the trenches, as a loud trumpeting noise boomed across the snowy wastes. Darkwater left his cot behind, and managed to see Morgan running off towards his snow cot. For a moment, just a slight moment, Roland wished he hadn't given away his armor. But fearlessly, he rushed back to his bunk to gather equipment. He tossed various objects into his pack, lockpicks, flash lights, grenades, M4 and even M16 ammo, various sights and scopes, a drum magazine, ripper bayonettes, a power fist, and a pair of binoculars. Roland thickened his Alaska wear with another coat and stronger snow boots, and slid on his snow camoflauged fatigue. He slipped on the white backpack, and headed for his locker. Darkwater withdrew his M1911 pistol, and slid it into his gun holster. He slid a ripper bayonette onto his M4, and slung the gun over his shoulder. Roland grabbed a combat knife and strapped it to his hip, as well as a switchblade inside his boot's secret compartment. After making sure everything was ready, Jack kissed his grandfather's lucky coin, and departed into the snowy trench, towards Morgan and Gunny's position.

Stevens knew a trumpet of battle. Dreadful sounds. He rushed to get his gear back in place. Filling his power armor's tac slots with mags for his M16. The nice thing about them was that they were interchangable with M4 mags. Easy use in a hard war. He ran out of the bunk hole, and jumped over a small ice slot, where he lay waiting for the first shots to be fired. Immediately he locked onto a Chinese sergeant who was issuing orders to his troops. He followed his target, waiting until the order was given. The order for the first life that Stevens would take in Alaska. So patiently, he waited.

Pvt. Gursky still didn't have anybody buking with him. He was taking off his power armour when he heard a Sgt. shout. He didnt have time to put his power armor torso and helmet of. He grabbed his gun, dufflebag, and bandoiler. Rushing over to the Sgt. with only a coat and his white combat pants on so he was very cold. He ran over to the Sgt. and said " Pvt.Gursky reporting, whats wrong, Sir?"

Roland sat in the snow, almost completely concealed in his white army fatigues. His bunk mate, Stevens, was contently watching a chinese sergeant move around in circles. With a wave of his hand, a squad of soldiers were sent scurrying obediently into forest of pine trees. They were searching for stragglers: anyone who tried to flee the war, or possibly escaped POWs. It was then when Roland noticed a strange look on the chinese sergeant's face. Not only were his features hardened as if he were tense, but he was sweating profusely. Sure, this was war, but under these circumstances, he was pretty safe. Even a sniper's bullet couldn't catch him in the torso, due to wind, and the Coriolis effect. So why was he so nervous? Darkwater slid an ACOG (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight) scope onto his M4s RIS rail, and zoomed in on the sergeant's face. Not only was his whole body rigid, but he looked extremely fearful. But why?

Roland lowered his gunsight. And he finally noticed it: the marking on his shirt was certainly not that of a Sergeant, but possibly a Private First Class. Darkwater couldn't read chinese, but he was positive the number of markings indicated a low ranking. And so this was a big blow to Darkwater's frame of mind. They were trying to lure them into a trap! Roland tried to alert the nearest soldier, Stevens, but couldn't get his attention. He was too busy looking down his own scope. Roland was more than positive that the moment the order was given, and that man killed, that all hell would break loose. Roland had to get contact with an ally before the **** hit the fan.

The bugel echoed across the snowfields. The winds had picked up and carried the war signal all the way to the trenches. Little could be seen except the buildings in the distance nothing more than machine gun bunkers and sighting nests. The enemy had light encampments this close to the front line. Gunny rushed out in his standard gear (non powerarmor see char descript pg 1).

"Morgan how long?!?" Gunny shouted. The other Sergeant turned and held up 8 fingers. Gunny nodded and hopped up over the trench lip and took off into the snowfield dragging his bag behind him. The soldiers in the unit were beginning to clambor around the step-ups to open fire when commanded. Some whispered and talked amongst themselves. Some were simply quiet. Sergeant Gunny continued his run across the snowfield every 30-40 feet dropping something into the snow. Bag empty, Gunny turned and ran for the trenches with 7 small objects in his hands. He slid over the lip of the trenches as the Bugel's echoed in the wind again.

"Here Morgan. You know the drill, let em bunch up." He tossed 3 of the small objects to Morgan and kept 4 for himself. Gunny then crawled into a larger hole in the wall which entered into what looked like a small gunner nest, set along the snowfields floor. He dragged his M60 inside with him, set it up and checked his ammo belt. He let out a grin and placed the small earbuds back in his ears and slowly nodded his head to the music. Gunny squinted through the snow and glare with the aid of his sunglasses, and he rolled the toothpick around in his mouth in anticipation.

Stevens was so intent on keeping his aim on target that he almost missed Roland's signals. He dropped off of his ledge and moved to his position.

This had better be good

He went prone next to Roland, and waited to hear what it was that he had to say.

Morgan lept over the trench in his Power Armor, placing frag mines, that Sgt. Gunny had given him. The sound of the bugels grew silent as morgan finished placing the mines, the sudden sound of men yelling over came the silence of the barren tundra. Morgan hopped back into the trench, as the sound of the bugel's with yelling followed. Morgan looked back, grabbing his rifle that was layed against the trench wall infront of him.

Dim flashes of light could be seen coming from behind the chinese trench's as the sound of incoming artillary rounds flew into the air, and crashed infront of the trench's throwing snow and dirt, every where. As the artillary subsided, chinese soldiers began to climb over, charging towards the American trench's. The sound of Machineguns erupted into the air, as chinese soldiers, fell to the ground either wounded or dead. All along the trench's commading officer's were yelling orders to the squads, "HOLD YOUR FIRE GOD D*** IT, WAIT TILL THEY GET CLOSE!", morgan held his fire as the oncoming threat continued to charge through the machinegun fire. It seemed that the chinese had plenty of reinforcments, when ever a chinese soldiers would fall, it seemed that two more would take his place, luckly for them the Artillary began to bombard the chinese forces...

Stevens corrected his target, with the help of Roland, who acted as his spotter. He locked onto a chinese leutenant, or whatever it was that passed for one. He had his finger hover on the trigger, waiting for the second that the fire order was given. And at that second, a commander on the enemy base would fall, and his troops would scatter in disarray. Or at least that was the plan.

Bullets whizzed by Roland, who promptly ducked under the snow covered walls around him.
"Sergeant! It's a Sergeant! Close to the split tree! Wait for the order from command first!" shouted Roland at Stevens.
Suddenly Darkwater remembered he wasn't wearing power armor, and nothing would save him from a stray bullet. He fed a magazine into his M4 and waited for the orders that never seemed to come.

What the hell were they waiting for? What had Gunny planted along the ends of the trench? Probably mines or claymores...
Roland ducked under a hail of SMG fire, and rolled into a low trench. He found two soldiers, nursing their wounds. They weren't familiar, so not from his company. We've already sustained injuries, and we still haven't launched an offensive?!
As Roland dodged stray bullets and sprinted through the now low trench, he saw more and more injured soliders. Darkwater was beginning to get frustrated. This offensive of theirs better be good. At least Stevens had a lock on the Sergeant by now. But we can't fire! God Damnit! Suddenly the trench ended and Roland was forced to roll behind a rock. Somewhere nearby an explosion went off, for Roland heard a deep thud, nearly deafening him.

He glanced around the boulder, to luckily find himself a good fifty yards from a group of chinese soldiers. Unfortunately, this group was large. Very large. Easily over twenty men in one spot. But they were attacking a blind spot! There were no mines or claymores there! Unless Gunny had hidden them well...
Roland switched his M4 for his grandfather's M1911, which he promptly loaded and cocked back the hammer. He glanced around the corner to see the soldiers getting closer to the trench. Damnit Gunny, detonate those [censored]ers!

(OOC: EDIT)

Roland decided he had to act. He rushed out from cover, firing round after round at the men. He ignored his orders, and used the element of surprise to kill one man using three shots, and down another. On his final shot he nicked the Sergeant in his neck, incapacitating but not killing him. It was then that Roland's fight became useless. A bullet shot by his face, ripping off the top part of his ear. He roared in pain, grasping the bloody stump on the side of his head. A second round shot him in the foot, sending him rolling to the ground. Even in a rising pool of cold blood, Roland fired his final few rounds in his second clip at the soldiers. Luckily he was prone and their shots missed. Out of nowhere, the artilary exploded, and took out more than half of the twenty men. Roland was sent flying back from the force of the explosion. He was well out of range, but after landing face-first into a rock, he was fully concussed.

Stevens looked to his right to see his friend shot down. "Man I HATE this stuff" He jumped up and ran to Roland, grabbing him and pulling him back to the safety of their foxhole. "Serves you right, going into battle without me. Now you stay put until the sarge gets back here." Stevens rushed back to his position and took his aim on the chinese commander once again. Patience John, you can take him down soon, just wait for the order!

A faint light fades in and out of the darkness, steadily growing bigger with each reappearance. It forms a twisting dial, almost like a clock ticking away the seconds of a man's life. In this case, Roland's life. The clock ticked onward, reaching the twelve as it became a swirling ball of energy. It took several minutes for Roland to realize it was the sun, and that he had been staring at it for half an hour. Maybe longer. Who knows. At any rate, Roland had to look around to grasp the gravity of this situation. The battle was still in full swing, but someone had taken Roland well out of range. He managed to say "Coin..." before he succomb to darkness.

{OOC: I'll leave it up to the directors of this lil "play" ;) as to whether or not I die. But most would think two minor gun shot wounds and a small concussion wouldn't kill a man. I'd say I'm unconcsious. I'll leave it up to yall.}

"You know we would be kicking ass right now if I kept my weed!" Weasel was firing "lucky", he hadnt even touched his R9. he reached into an ammo bag on his belt, seeing he only had one hi-cap mag left. "son-b*tch yellows! makin me waste so much 10mil!" he stood up in the trench, firing off his last few rounds, "what happened to all that damned luck?!" he throws his two detonation packs as far as he can, a few feet from the Chinese. He got back down and waited 2 seconds (these specific charges take three seconds to detonate after the trigger/button is pulled/pushed) and started detonation. A small beep came from his bag, "ah [censored]!" he acted as quicly as he could and threw the detonation pack into another part of the trench, seeing no one was there, this took two and a half seconds. The detonation pack detonated close to his face, tearing off some of his left ear. "I can still hear moth-" still standing, a bullet grazed his right heek, tearing through it and leaving just before his ear. "No, not here! nobody here!" his voice was barely audible. As that happened theyw were bombarded with artillary, shrapnel cracking his sunglasses into peices. He had just become conscious of his surroundings, he saw roland, laying face down near a bloody rock. He dug through his bag, an removed, not only a stimpak but the picture of Madison. He began to crawl toward Roland, screaming. "No, NO, not here, not never" when he reached Roland, he jabbed a stimpak into Rolands arm and kissed Madison's picture, that was his only stimpak. "Hai, where are..." he passed out, his last motion injecting the stimpak into Roland.

seriously, where is he???????, sorry if I'm off, you beat me by a few seconds.....

Sergeant Gunny along with every machine gun nest along the trench erupted into long range fire. Picking his targets which were bunched behind light cover or in groups, Gunny tore through ammunition like a kid at christmas. The only sound that could be heard over his music was his Machine gun and the occasional artillery shell exploding nearby. The end of the M60 began to glow a dull red, Gunny cursed.

Damn*t even in the cold it overheats. A group of 5 soldiers ran toward a dip in the snow field for cover. They were promptly vaporized by the high explosive mine that had been planted by the Sergeant. He let out a grin and turned his attention to the fight, just in time to see a large group of soldiers assemble on their blind flank. Gunny swivled his M60 to the group as Roland made a mad dash for the enemy.

UGH! Newbies now I don't have a shot! Acouple of enemy soldiers were taken down by Roland's gunfire then the soldier went down. Artillery sent debris and snow up high into the air and Gunny let off a hail of gunfire into the group. He layed supressing fire as Stevens ran out and pulled Roland to safety. 5 Members of the Chinese assault team retreated, all that was left of the blind side attack. The M60 clicked dry, and Sergeant Gunny ripped the top open and pulled a new belt over.

I love this gun! "Morgan how's it going on your flank?!?" Gunny yelled as he leaned out the entrance hole to the bunker. Another loud boom rocked the trenches and an arm with chinese writing on it landed at Gunny's feet. He poked his head out the firing hole and saw a large crater and a pile of... well meat at this point.

Seems like acouple of overzealous Commies found one of my presents. Suddenly a bullet ricochet off the outside of the bunker, forcing Gunny's head back in. You son of a..! The Sergeant replied in kind with long bursts of his M60 fire. In the cold and dim day, Gunny smiled in the light of his muzzle flashes.

OOC- I think hai's operator is like doing school or something... If he doesn't make a post soon one of us will in the combat scene for him.

The sun exploded in a fiery blast, as blood rushed through Roland's veins like a stream downhill. Adrenaline surged through his body, and he made spasmic jerks as a heavy dose of morphine and various other drugs within the stimpack revived his body. It was as if he was being born anew. Suddenly a million different emotions flooded his mind, all simaltaneously. Fear, Hate, Love, Disgrace, Anger, Sadness. He wanted to rip apart the chinese, yet he also wanted to kiss Andrea with all of his being. At the same time he feared death, for he knew when the Stimpack ran out he'd be a shell of a man, half-alive as the chinese attacked. He had to make it count.

Roland tried to stand. He felt no pain, for too many powerful suppresants were in his system. Though his foot didn't hurt, it did give out on him several times, causing him to fall out of the fox hole and down the snowy hill. But the whole bumpy ride sent no reaction to his nervous system. He merely stood up when he reached the base of the hill. He limped forward with the best of his might, pulling back the slide on his pistol as he did. A chinese officer came into view, wielding a massive gun, tethered to a tank on his back. Roland's feral instincts kicked in, ignoring emotions and relying on pure skill. That would be the small dose of Pyscho in the stimpack, that Weasle, of course, neglected to take out before the war began. All eight rounds of the M1911 raced through the air, most of them missing, but two or three hitting the man's metal armor. He recoiled a bit, but soon faced Roland, flamethrower aimed at his legs.

A burst of flame shot forth, and licked against Roland's unarmored legs. He felt only a slight discomfort as the fire ate away at his skin, burning through his army fatigues. [That would be a combo of Morphine and Med-X. Darkwater ignored the whole blast of heat, which quickly died down as the man's gun jammed. Steam shot out of the tank, and Roland knew a shot had made it. The snowy ground was lit ablaze as the man erupted in a fiery explosion. Roland limped forward, his foot beginning to rip in two from post-traumatic stress and damage from sustained walking. Roland's legs were raw and red, but the thick fatigues had absorbed half the flame. He kept walking towards the trench where his allies were. He almost made it. Almost

A .308 Calibur bullet struck Roland in the chest, making an awfully odd metalic ring as it broke two ribs. He was thrown backwards into the snow. But no blood seeped from his wounds. The drug's added adrenaline effect ran out. The small doses of Epinephrine, Med-X, Jet, Psycho, and Morphine had run low. It was the end of the line for Roland Darkwater. Again he fell unconcious. But this time, he slipped into darkness knowing a man had given a life to save his own. Death seemed far more welcoming.

Sergeant Morgan ducked from the trench, as he reloaded his rifle. He saw that the Chinese man was firing into the oncoming force's, the sudden sound of bugel's once again entered the cold crisp air of alaska. Morgan looked up as he saw that the chinese were returning to their own trench's. The battle was hard fought, but not without casualties, the artillary and machinegun fire ceased, as morgan and the rest of the squad stood down from the trench.

Morgan walked over to his bunk, as he saw a medic trying to revive a downed soldier. He walked over curious of who it was, "Who is it doc?", the medic looked up at the Sergeant, shaking his head, it was Private Roland, he had several injuries, his leg looked like some sort of burned beef jerky. The medic looked at Morgan laying his hand on his shoulder, "I'm sorry sergeant, there is nothing we can do for him", morgan looked at the medic who had sorrow in his eye's, "He's dead, what do I care, I hardly knew him, besides he was an irresponcible a**hole", morgan pushed the had off his shoulder, and returned to his bunk. The medic along with two other soldiers carried Rolands body off to be shipped back home.

Morgan took off all his Power Armor and got dressed into his relaxed clothing, while he lit up another cigarette, he layed on his bunk, as Sgt. "Gunny" walked in, "Private Roland is dead, he had some major wounds... F***ing a**hole" morgan did'nt wait for a responce, and walked outside checking on the front with his binoculars.

Stevens rushed out of the foxhole, checking the bodies for any allied survivors. He eventually ended up back where he picked up Roland the first time. There he saw Weasel unconscious. "Weasel you crazy (Censored), nobody is killing you just yet, Morgan has claimed that role already, not some Commie." He picked up Weasel and dragged him back to the trench, where he dropped him on the bunk. He dug through his pack, and found just what he was looking for, the Butcher Pete holodisk. He set it on low and placed it next to Weasel. Exhausted, Stevens administered a painkiller to his 'patient' and walked outside. There he saw his friend, Roland being carried away by two men whom he didn't recognize. He stopped them, and ordered them to place Roland down for a minute. He called for a medic to watch Weasel. "Roland. Man, you didn't deserve this." He grabbed his friends shoulder, and then looked at the shining gold coin hanging around his neck. He pulled the coin off of the chain, and picked up his M1911. He placed Roland's coin around his own neck, and holstered the pistol. "Private," He turned to one of the men that was carrying Roland,"go back and pick up his equipment."

"Roland, I'll see you in heaven buddy, God's waiting for you." He picked up Roland's body and carried him back to the Command post. There he ordered for a private to send him home. "Goodbye Roland."

Weasel awoke, about a yard or two from the bunks. "Roland.... i guess he...... made it, maybe i......can" he searched through his bag, pulling out a sewing needle. He pulled a long thred from his pants. he tried to sew his cheek back together. He did it.....poorly. he looked at the ground, a lot of blood, most of it his, but he stopped bleeding. He looked at his chest and noticed no shrapnel entered his heart or stomach. His legs were okay, he could run. He didnt see Roland, hopefully he was alive back at the bunks.
when he came back, weasel didnt notice Hai or Roland, he saw a neaby pacing medic, "have you sen Darkwater?" "sir, he was killed" "damnit! I f*cked up, horribly. I shouldnt be here, I dont deserve it. Can you make a message for someone in his family?" "yes sir" "for his girl, Andrea, I heard him say her name before he was killed." He walked toward Steven, "I heard your voice before I woke up..."

yes shrapnel can be survived to the ribs, happened to my grandad, had a plan for the heart the whole time!

Upon Guny laying down mines the Commies began their charge. Pvt. Gursky rushed to a MG hole, a couple yards away from where Gunny was set up. He took his SAW and layed down in a prone position. When he heard other soldiers opening fire he began to open fire into a group of about 14 Commies. After about 5 seconds of continuess fire h saw all 14 Commies were down. When he was reoading is SAW 2 Chinese soldier ran up close to his MG hole. He quicly pulled out his 44. Magmum and fired 2 shots in the chest of the first soldier and 1 in the head of the second. Letting out a sigh he reloaded his SAW. Upon releasing short burstes of fire he saw a soldier change up aganist a Chinese soldier with a flamer. Turning his attension away he dropped another small group of Commies.

After what seemed like hours the battle was over. He dropped his SAw in the small MG hole and grabbed his dufflebag and ran to the trenches. He saw a soldier with part of his left leg blown apart. He rushed to his side and injected a Med-X syringe in his leg. He then took the bonesaw and cut off the left leg off. He then bandaged up the soldier and procced to a officer.

"Yeah boy, you were pretty messed up" Stevens replied quietly, looking down at the gold coin that now hung from his neck. "I managed to get you out of that zone, pretty brave thing you did. I brought you back here, only to find out that I left Roland for a second too long. He woke up, supposedly from some fast acting stim, that was filled with psycho. He walked out of here, right into a flamethrower Commando, and after suffering severe burns, died of a bullet to the chest. As for you, you survived with shrapnel in your ribcage, and some other minor injuries, as well as a good knock on the head. You will live, at least until Morgan gets a hold of you."

Morgan looked at weazel for a moment as he talked about getting a promotion as well as some other. The battle was over, and morgan was'nt in the mood for anyone telling him that they deserved to be promoted and given a medal, as weazel finished morgan thought for a moment, then suddenly blind sided weazel, giving him a right hook to the side of the face. Weazel fell to the ground, holding his face, while morgan walked out to find Private Stevens.

Stevens was leaning over, helping bandage a wounded soldier, when morgan quickly kicked him in the gut from the side, "DONT YOU SEND SOMEONE TO TELL ME THAT YOU DESERVE A MEDAL, I'LL F***ING KILL YOU MYSELF, IF YOU EVER DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT AGAIN!", as morgan continued to yell at the downed Private Stevens, Commader Howard walked in, "What the hell is going on in here?", morgan turned around to the commander, "Sir I was just informing Private Stevens, that he was an idiot. Both him a Private Roland were irresponsible, and for being irresponsible Roland is dead, Stevens and Private Weazel also aked for promotions", Commander Howard looked at stevens who struggled to stand up, after getting kicked in the gut, "Well Private Steven you will not be given a promotion, and neither will Private Weazel, they will how ever be given medals...", Private Weazel walked into the medical hut, holding his face, "Hah Private Weazel, I was just telling Private Steven's that neither of you will be getting promotions, but you will be given medals, you will get a Purple Heart, for being wounded in the battle field, while you! Private Steven will get the Bronze Star for trying to rescue Private Roland", morgan stood there, as Commander Howard motioned for him to follow.

The two men walked into the officer's hut, that was carved into the side of the trench, "Sergeant Morgan, I know that you have been fighting on the Alaskan Front for... What three tour's?", morgan knoded at the question, "Morgan I cant have you beating up on recruits, you've already been knocked down to private once before, and then made it back up to Sergeant. I'm going to let you off this time, because you make a good Sergeant, but I will have no more of this, do you understand me soldier!", morgan knoded, and left the hut, and returned to his bunk for a cigarette. As the day passed, the sound of truck could be heard pulling up to the trench's with replacements...

Stevens stood up after getting the air back in his lungs. He was confused and dazed. What the hell was that all about? Stevens returned to the bunk that he now regretted deciding on sharing with Morgan. Why the hell did he think that was a good idea anyway? He walked in to find Morgan sitting on his bed, smoking a cigarette. "Sir, I didn't ask for a promotion. I don't want one, and would not accept one. I've been fighting for the past five years, and have been barely able to keep myself alive, let alone my squad. So whatever anyone told you about me wanting something you can forget it. I sent Weasel to you to inform you that I had taken care of several of the casualties, and had prepared Roland to be shipped home." Stevens was about to walk out when he turned back around. "Sergeant. Roland was a good man. He fought with honor and courage. Let me ask you this, if it had been you sitting there, facing a dozen soldiers who were preparing to flank an entire command outpost, would you just sit by and watch? I don't care about how clear the orders were. What Roland did was right, and he deserves respect for his deeds." Stevens finished by walking over to the Sergeant, and plucking the cigarette out of his mouth. He took a puff and dropped it on the ground. "See? I can play hardball too." Stevens walked out of the bunk leaving a bewildered Sergeant Morgan behind him. He had to go clear a few things up with the commander.

He walked over to Commander Howard, and saluted. "Sir! I feel the need to clear something up sir!" The Commander looked at him, and asked him what it was. "Sir, I don't want a medal. I'm not a hero. If anything sir it was Private Roland Darkwater who deserved that. He gave his life today, honorably, and courageously. I would also like to honor Sergeant Morgan sir. I don't agree with what he did, but he is one hell of a soldier sir. He saved my life countless times today sir, and I owe him it." With that Stevens saluted again, and walked back to his Bunk. Stevens dropped into his bunk and quickly passed out.

(OOC: Alright, I'm done for tonight. be back on tomorrow. p.s. hey Strangelove, how was Stevens irresponsible for helping save weasel and Roland's lives?)

Ok i will OOC this first to explain acouple things. First yea maybe what Roland did was brave, doesnt make it right. He could clearly have done it a little better then running outta the trench but we'll give him the doubt he died fighting. Well what everyone else did was take away about half the squads operational capacity to defend itself. If everyone just starts willy nilly runnen out into the field. Noones gonna survive. There is a protocol to these things. Not to mention the druggymessed him up with that psycho in there.. Besides the soldier clearly could have ran back into the trenches with the stim, and made it to safety. But we'll chalk it up to the drugs.

Gunny leaned against the snow wall as two soldiers carried Rolands body down the trenchline.

He did a brave thing. No matter how stupid it was...

Morgan had set himself up inside his bunk and everyone seemed angry at him. Gunny tilted his head and thought for a minute. He then stood up and walked into Weasel's bunk. The tore up soldier was looking at the wall with a sad look on his face.

"Hey, Weasel.."
"You come to yell at me too??" Weasel sad sadly. Gunny took off his sunglasses. "Actually no. I wanted to let you know what you did was brave. Wether Morgan shows it or not he appreciates it too but theres something you gotta understand. This trench system is our home. We've seen countless soldiers come and not come back out, just like Roland. Now I may not like listening to brass or following rules myself. But there is a place for em. I heard the report from the medics. There was traces of other drugs in his system from that stim. If it was a normal stim he would probably just had layed there. Whatever was in it made him loopy and he followed it from there. I asked the medic to keep it quiet, cause I don't think it was on purpose. But remember what I said about drugs slowing you down out here. It gets people killed. Next time your gonna do something stupid like that, let me know." Gunny stepped out of the bunk and stopped for a second. He poked his head back in. "Hey about Morgan. He lost his little brother out here, in this exact trench line. I don't know if it was his real little brother but that's how they treated eachother. Infact he lost his whole squad. I came in just after that happened. We may come off as strong, but we don't want to loose any more boys out here." Gunny looked at the ceiling then popped another toothpick in his mouth and put his sunglasses back on. "Get some sleep Weasel" Gunny turned around to find Stevens standing behind him with a funny look on his face. "What the hell are you looking at?" Gunny pushed him forcefully into Weasel's snow room, and walked down the trenches. On the way he bent down to talk to a soldier with his leg missing.
