I was looking at Skyrim stuff and then it hit me - i've got about 5 different characters in Oblivion... what happens to them in 200 years?

Obvious answer is that they all die, however I wanted to continue my favourite character to Skyrim, however the massive year gap between the two makes it difficult to do that, whilst following the Lore.

Basically, the poll is to check who among you will continue your characters forward, and then post what you will do with your remaining characters in Oblivion, what becomes of them? Do they die in combat? Live to a ripe old age?

I personally will play my characters, increasing the difficulty slider as Skyrim approaches, and play Dead is Dead. If any of them still remain alive, then i'll imagine a story for their remaining lives - but most likely the rest will die in combat.

The character im taking a long is a Wood elf, who in wanting long life became a Vampire by choice - however after 150 years of being part of the Undead family he saught a cure. Becoming 'normal again' he found a pretty Wood Elf and settled down and had a family. I'll play his child who'll be female and will set out after her father crumbles to dust from being 200ish years old

It′s like with the Deus Ex franchise. I LOVED the first game but never bothered with the sequels because as we all know, sequels almost always get worse and worse as they come along.

It doesn′t matter that Oblivion isn′t the first in the series, it′s still the first in the series that I′ve played and loved and therefore I will, together with Lothran, wave goodbye to most of the people here on 11 11 11 :wavey:

awww - i predict that, eventually, you'll be sparked by curiosity to try Skyrim. It'll either be because there's nothing left for you in Oblivion, or the forums here will just become empty

If you have elf characters, you may as well take them to Skyrim without worrying about age, as they live for centuries. I think for an elf to live up to 600 is no big deal, don't quote me on that though.

Anyway, I haven't planned on taking any of my characters, but I'd be taking the descendant of my main character. Perhaps the spiritual successors of my other characters later on too, but I'm perhaps one of the few that doesn't plan ahead for things like this. I deal with things when the moment arrives.

I have no intention of bringing my main character to Skyrim, nor any descendant or anything like that. I'd find it boring to not make a whole new character and experience the new world with a fresh perspective. I do have an Imperial vampire woman who takes part in the story of all the major games in the series, but I don't bring her in until I've played the game extensively and can mod it.


I think that's true for movies and lots of other forms of media, but not video games. I would say video game sequels get better and better. With video games, you can improve game mechanics, graphics, and just overall everything. It's not like a movie where you're stuck with either retelling the same story and having it be predictable and not as good, or telling a completely new story and risking alienating the original fanbase. Maybe that's just me though.

Yes, I'd think that an elf who was "young" at the time of Oblivion could be easily be alive at the time of Skyrim. Divayth Fyr, a Dunmer sorcerer in Morrowind, is said to be 4000 years old. It's also said that there may be some even older wizards in Summerset Isles.

Oh morocu that made me feel really sad! I'm getting Skyrim but I'll still stick around the Oblivion forums and I'll still be playing the game, I could never give up Oblivon after all the hours of enjoyment it's brought me.

As for your question, OP, I plan on playing an ancestor of my main Oblivion character Rayn (or maybe even one of my secondary characters). I don't like to think that she would die in violence, even though she's a vampire hunter, so I might just roleplay that she moved to Skyrim and got married, and gave up her dungeon-clearing lifestyle to open an alchemy shop, where she lived out the rest of her days.
Then I'll be free to start a new character in Skyrim with some similarities (breton, magical) and pretend it's an ancestor of Rayn's. This satisfies the role-playing hurdle of being in a different place, 200 years later. I love Rayn but I couldn't play her as a 200 year+ old woman. Some things are more precious because they don't last. :yes:

Voted "No" and "yes". If I had a young elf in Oblivion, it's possible he or she could make an appearance 200 years later (and middle-aged), but currently I have no elves. I'm definitely putting a decendant of one of my humans into Skyrim, though.

My character has been reincarnated across several games. If I try out Skyrim and like it with some test characters, I would likely reincarnate her again. The spirit that animates her is the same, but her form may vary from game to game.

Echo will surely eventually appear in Skyrim. Echo is immortal, in exactly the same way that Umaril the Unfeathered is immortal; when she dies, she is sent to Oblivion, and returns to life anew. (In game terms, she "starts over," but retains one possession from each of her previous lives -- a little mod I made for the character.)

A couple of my mages are likely to return, too. There is no reason a mage can't live thousands of years.


I imagine that this forum may get a little quieter, but I doubt that most of the long-time posters will depart. Those of us who depend upon mods for our role playing are unlikely to abandon Oblivion any time soon, since Skyrim will be "vanilla" for quite a while. This is one of the main reasons I am not going to rush to Skyrim (the other reason being the tendency for new games to launch with very frustrating bugs that need to be fixed in the first few months.)

Reincarnation, hmm never thought of that angle.

Since i play dead is dead, I'm thinking my first few characters will be sort of generic Nord barbarians to start with. They won't have to be particularly savvy or sophisticated, since they'll probably be dead in a few hours. Lol. But assuming one of them does manage to live a long life, I'll think of "reincarnation" when I'm ready for a chacter whom I'm looking to start more carefully with. Particularly Igodah Go^Pe or somebody such whom I cared about in Oblivion.

I'm thinking of bringing my vampire character into Skyrim. Not sure how it will fit with the story though, and I would need to do some modding or consoling to start out as a vampire. AND I'm not even sure if vampires are in the game(will be extremely disappointed if they are not! :brokencomputer: )

My first and favourite character is an Imperial named Sellik Varrius, who I created when I did my first playthrough on the Xbox back in '06. He has stuck with me throughout the years of playing Oblivion, but most of the time if I make a new character, they are just a different incarnation of him, be it woodsman, soldier, mage or even just a farmer.

I'm undecided on whether or not to try and take him or a potential family member onto Skyrim or just make a fresh new character. Only thing for me is, the big problem when making a new character is naming them!
Currently though, I'm thinking a Nord named Konáll Wolfbane or an Argonian named Ra-Ziikul. If I change my mind I'll probably just end up going with Sellik again though.

I have to disagree with you there. Yes the graphics and whatnot improves, but rarely storylines, lore and overall the general 'feel' of the game as it was. And like I said, games have a tendencey of getting dumber, sadly. But maybe most importantly it′s as someone said a while back; it′s whatever you played first that you like the best. This is for the most part true. For example I like Termiantor 2 better than the T1, and I saw that movie first

This forum has been a little quiet ever since Skyrim general was introduced and I think with time some may even come back here again.
I agree with the other part. Like Acadian said, a new game has to be patched and patched again anyway. And my "Ney" is not carved in stone, we don′t know what the future brings...

My current character is based on a supernatural being that travels across space and time. She has gone from Dragon Knight Saga to Mass Effect 1 and 2 to Morrowind to Oblivion. I will see her in Skyrim as well as any future games. She is a magic based character so it's hard to try and place her in the Fall Out series.

On another note, about the forums. If the current threads and bashing posts, that are currently flooding the Skyrim forum, are any sign of what's to come, I doubt I'll be participating.

I think I may bring a couple of my Elven characters along to Skyrim since they can live for thousands of years (if in good health), most definitely bringing my Dunmer Aralyin since he's awesome. I'll be making some decendants to my humans too, a Nord and Redguard. Or at least one of them...maybe the Nord, since this will be in his homeland.

Ileros still alive. I may not even go to Skyrim if there's no spell creation.

I definately will get Skyrim but I won't be continuing my character. It will be a fresh character for me :turned: I'll probably play a bitter Dark Elf who hates Argonians for obvious reasons

My original Oblivion character is ready to move on. She will be my first in Skyrim, with a new story that fits the game or an adaptation of her Oblivion story. I might be able to ignore the 200 year time difference. We’ll see how it goes before I worry about the details.

My current characters are still far too busy in Cyrodiil. No way will things be wrapped up there in three months.
