The best gear in the game will be loot dropped, not crafted.

This is disappointing, why is it that mmo's ALWAYS force crafters/PVPers, etc to be tied to PVE in order to get the highest/best gear?

Can they not make each of them viable and let the players choose what they want/like, would that be bad?

"Crafted gear of equal level and equal quality rating is always better than dropped gear from a numerical standpoint. Weapons do more damage, armor has more... armor. However, certain enchantments can only be found on drops. Crafters can always improve those items which have unique enchantments. Legendary items do not drop..."

By this regard the best gear will always be loot-drops which then crafters can improve to legendary.

This means that crafters at end-game won't actually make the gear but just improve a piece of dropped gear that has the enhancement that you can not find any other way but from drops.

Umm.. because this is like every MMO that's out on the market? Why would this game be any different? Glad it's not :)

Legendary is considered the best so you can't exactly say that dropped items are better than crafted.

Best gear is still done through crafting, whether it is crafting a specific piece of armor from scratch or upgrading something you looted.

You are reading this backwards. Paul has stated elsewhere that crafted gear will always be as good as or better than dropped loot. I agree that his statement here could be misinterpreted, but he's made it much clearer elsewhere.

This is how it's going to be. gear crafted from crafters will NOT be superior to loot drops in the end. Gear that has dropped and then IMPROVED by crafters will be the best gear. So basically (if you're actually thinking! :)), they're still forcing people into the dungeon grind (adventure zone grind, whatever you call it) but they're throwing crafters a little bone. It's sneaky, and will fool people for a little while.

I think some of you may be confused or I am confused one.

Crafted gear (as in made from a crafter from the ground up) will never have as good enchantments as the dropped gear that has certain rare enchantments you can not find any other way.

Once you obtain these "dropped" items then a crafter can improve upon them (to Legendary).

However a crafter can not straight up craft these items with the enchantments.

Unless I am reading it wrong.

This means the best gear in the game will always be these dropped items with the enchantments which you then have to have a crafter improve to legendary.

The best gear is crafted.... the dropped one is purple and only crafters can make it legendary. Not to mention it has enchants you may not want....

I think the OP is concerned that the best gear can only originate from drops and then the crafter will improve that to Legendary. This is not the case, as any dropped gear can be crafted. The only way to get certain set bonus gear is to craft it at the associated locale for that armor set.

I believe it says that the gear will be EQUAL except for the enchants of dropped gear. The enchants being unique not better.

I'd take another look at that. Crafted gear of equal level and equal quality is always better. Crafted. Crafters can always improve items that have unique enchants. I don't understand where the "best gear will always be loot-drops" fits in. Unique enchants may not be an enchant you, personally, want. I've sold stuff that I had no intention of using, enchanted or not. Or disassembled it, and sold the components.

lol, that's cute that you think that  This is an mmo in the genre of WoW. Of course the "unique" enchantments will be superior.

edit for everyone who doesn't seem to understand something simple: crafted and IMPROVED are DIFFERENT.

He is saying that in end-game, all crafters are glorified "enchanters" because the best gear will be loot dropped (best mods) that get upgraded to legendary status by crafters (using tempers, etc.).

Can't anyone just slap on an upgrade mat though? Like to go from purple to orange...and doesn't that just add more base armour (doesn't improve any other stats).

Basically.

So, you gear treadmill and grind until you find pieces with the enchantment that you want (if they are good, which they probably will be) and max those out after acquired.
