The best Horror Game ive ever played!

Post » Tue Nov 24, 2009 10:17 pm

For Horrorfans i strongly recommend Amnesia: The dark descent!
Its from the creator of the penumbra series.
This is the first game that i cant play constantly without quitting each 30 minutes.
And i swear iam no pvssy when it comes to horrorgames!
The atmosphere in this game is just brilliant.
It easisly beats Dead Space for me when it comes to intensity.
And it costs only 15 Bucks over Steam.
It maybe an independend game.. but it teaches some big developers the meaning of fear ;-) For me its the new reference in the horrorgenre and even one of the best games ever made.

Check it out!
Its really really worth it!

I would recommended this game also. mainly because they have a Linux version (hint, hint Crytek)
They also have a demo on their site, you can try out the first two levels of the game before you buy.

I was in TeamSpeak with some friends whilst they both played the SP game simultaneously... it was rather amusing to listen to... them hiding in closets, scaring themselves to death as creepy monsters walked by :P

@ Crytom

No weapons at all. The Latern cant be used as a weapon.. it even can be very obstructive when you must use the darkness to hide from your enemies. You are completly defenseless and helpless. Thats what makes it so fascinating. The fact that you cant fight your enemies and actually hear and feel the charackter beiing physically influenced by his fears ( hard breathing and halucinating) makes it more of a horror experience.
So its no survival Shooter at all. Its only the ego perspective that reminds a bit of a egoshooter. But there are lots of cool puzzles (with some great physic gadgets in it ). And the sounds and the atmosphere are just undiscribeable good. Its more a horrifying adventure kinda game.

I have this game. I think I've played an hour or so? Then had to call it quits. At some point I'll return to it, but I'm a big pansy for horror games. Never finished Doom 3 (though I kind of got close, at one point I finally became desensitized to its scare methods, but ended up losing my save game), haven't finished Dead Space, and I haven't started FEAR yet (only just got it, so not really a good measure).

Never even bothered to buy a Silent Hill game, even though they fascinate me.

Doom 3 isn't scary :S
I also recommend this, and if you miss your weapons, you can throw things at the monsters to slow them down ^^

Doom 3 is rather a FPS and does not scare very much, though if in some sites. As when you go to the bath and meet reflected in the mirror.

I have not played any Silent Hill, though they have told me that it is afraid.

I can easily agree with this thread, amnesia is the scariest game ever made.

I played the demo for Dead Space 2, anyone looking for a fresh product should consider it. I didn't like the demo for part 1, never played that, but this time I'm actually intrigued. The controls are smooth and there seem to be puzzle-like instances where you don't have to constantly fear enemies jumping out of every corner too, just like Amnesia had. Looking really nice aswell. It's basically what I would call "polished".

Amnesia still owns every game in the horror genre for me.
But Dead space is probably the most scaring scifi horror game.

Dead Space is the scariest Sci Fi game I've played, That regenerating necromorph D:. Doom 3's a joke and so's F.E.A.R. < more a action game than anything there were some scary parts though. Dead Space 2 is supposed to be scarier and put more action moments in so its a first day buy for me. :D
Also try Dead Space on impossible against the regenerating necro and say it isnt scary. :\

I played Dead Space 2 demo like a week ago and got really scared when you see stuff that's actually not there :P

And Penumbra: Black Plague was really creepy!
I might try this out, I love horror games, but is it like, **** SCARY that makes you jump? :D
