While the Solitude house is the most expensive, it really has nothing on the Windhelm house.

What makes the windhelm house the better choice?

Yeah, the Windhelm house has a bunch of armor mannequins, weapon display cases, a weapon rack, and some mounts for weapons as well. It's a pretty nice house.

Windhelm house is the place for u ;) No creepy decorations, but from the outside at night is has a creepy style, 3 mannequins, 3 display cases for normal weapons, 4 for daggers (Nice for a stealth character), 4 weapon plaques on the walls and two shield plaques. and a secret room behind a dresser on the first floor. Its the second most expensive house at 15 000 and maybe another 7000 for all upgrades. The most expensive in solitude svcks in comparison with no display cases and only two mannequins ;)

Does anyone know how the house in Riften is?

I was thinking of buying it for my Thieves Guild character, but to do so I'd have to pay more money than if I bought the Whiterun house, and I'd have to do a few quests to get the Jarl to let me as well. Was wondering if it was worth the extra expense and trouble.

Nice house all in all. Two mannequins, some weapon plaques on the walls, weapon rack, enchanting and alchemy table, both main floor and cellar, small patio and a door directly out to skyrim, not just into the city.

Windhelm house also has a secret passage that leads to the enchanter and such.

But seriously, why is the Solitude house so expensive when its so inferior. Its like a Leyawiin house meets a standard American duplex.

I mean, aesthetically, in all honesty the arch mages quarters are better than any one house Ive seen.

Your "garden upgrade" for the solitude house is two chairs a table and one potted plant. I mean wtf? Solitude comes off as upper middle class domicile, while Windhelm comes off as an actual rich persons estate. If it were in real life, I would kill the realtor that just sold me Proudspire manor.

Plug in DLC akin to Oblivion's FTW, hopefully.

Can you buy a house with a forge/grind-stone/repair-bence/smelter in this game? I got Breezehome (for free :hubbahubba: ) and the only crafting bench I could get was the Alchemy table, managed to fix the weapon racks though so it has some value to it with Nettlebane on the wall. :)

My only complaint is that not one of the houses gives you smithing craft stations.

Breezehome is right next to one, yeah, but I don't OWN that forge. I want to OWN one :P

Not sure if that's true in real life, but in skyrim more expensive=better.
