The best improvement over oblivion thus far...

Post » Sat Oct 15, 2011 8:14 pm

There are a lot of threads flooded with negative comments about things that didnt get improved. Id like to start a different topic talking about the positives of skyrim.
What is your favorite improvement?

Mine would have to be the loss of speed tree. I hated the 2d sprites. and bethesdas new way of animating trees is much, much better.

Character animations and spell mechanics (e.g. faster fireballs, dual-spell wielding).

Brand new TES world to explore, no attributes, no classes, no Athletics skill, no item degradation, dual wielding without block, Dragons, Shouts, dynamic snow, 150+ unique dungeons, improved melee/magic/ranged, graphics, music, animations, radiant story which will be the best addition to the RPG genre in the last 20 years, marriage and relationship amulet, companions, jobs, much improved horses, finishing moves, more unique regions, beautiful HUD and UI, amazing 3D map, dynamic shadows, perks

They've made many improvements over Oblivion, but the best one so far in my opinion has to be the leveling system. I really disliked how creatures leveled with you in Oblivion. :meh:

I think the world is the best improvement, because its hand crafted and not randomly generated

well I'll take that back. The character creation is alot better also with facial hair, face paint, and blind eyes, etc.

Personally I'm happy for a lot of things. On of the things my joy is most invested towards, is the skill/attribute/level progression mechanics in Skyrim. Finally gone are the days of Morrowind and Oblivion's shared system of tethered progressions and forced gameplay/grind.

Like Daggerfall, I feel like I can make whatever character I want and play it.

If the level-scaling is actually fixed as they say it is, then I would say that is the best improvement. However, I am still skeptical as to whether being level 50+ is as rewarding as it was in Morrowind. If being a high level character is still horrible, then I would say the best improvement is dual-wielding spells.

More varied environments
Improved character creation system (faces no longer look like balls)
Magic system seems wonderful to me, even with the lack of spell making
Elimination of dialogue wheel to a more fluid system (no more zooming in on faces, either)
Combat seems to have gotten a boost (I'm okay with the first person, visceral finishers)
Most of the armors so far look really, really cool
Jobs and things to do outside of "quest-like" objectives

So many things... but for me, I would say I am a big fan of the executions, especially the sneak kills like the one shown in the Skyrim trailer.

Everyone's saying levelling already, so i wont repeat that :) its kinda like a default for many.

For me the greatest improvement would be the cool user interface(menus, font) as well as the improved magic graphics. the magic graphics in oblivion were total meh, and so's the UI

Dyyyyyynnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccc Shhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, that will make level design 10x easier right there. You guys can expect some fantastic areas from me. :D

Although the whole 'no main 7 skills' part of leveling is incredibly awesome too...

Ok, shadows from a design/modding standpoint, leveling from a playing standpoint.
