The best landscape LOD Normal mod?

Post » Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:58 pm

One of the weakest visual of the heavily modded Oblivion in 2010 is probably the landscape LOD. I am wondering if there are relatively new mods that address this. The Qarl's 4096 adds a lot more detail, but, in my opinion, is slightly too "bumpy" and unrealistic. The rest seem like they are bit featureless and quite "mushy" in appearance.

On a side note, does oblivion benefit from forcing Anistropic filtering?

Thanks for the help

That's why I use Qarl's Normals 512x512...

Yes. In my opinion it makes a pretty big difference, too.

Forced AF makes a massive difference. Unfortunately there's only so much you can do when you're given crap detail for landscape LOD.

I can recommend http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32709. You have the choice between several sizes (512, 1024, 2048) and they are not blocky and are looking very good in my opinion.

For low-end computers I would recommend http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27046 which are available in 256 and 512 and have smaller impact on the system than the vanilla normal maps but looking a lot better.

You could always try the Vibrant distant normals. I quite like them myself, he did a nice job with them.
