The Best of the Elder Scrolls

Dragonborn was not released when I made the poll but please consider it apart of the skyrim with Dawnguard hearthfire one.

I'll just say that the best single expansion is Shivering Isles. The best collection would be Skyrim's considering I only got two for Oblivion and none for Morrowind.

I was hoping somebody would point this out. While I'd agree that the other games present a better overall DLC package, Shivering Isles stands on its own as the most expansive DLC i've ever purchased, at least on the 360.

Morrowind vampires - No stages of vampirism. Attribute and skill boost dependent on which of three clans infected you. Sunlight is eventually lethal. No direct assaults but talking to most people causes them to attack. Only the mages guild and Telvanni are non-hostile and offer a few vampire specific quests. Feeding simulated by the addition of a low cost absorb health spell in your spellbook. No regenerating health from resting or sleeping, only absorb.

Oblivion vampires - Four stages of vampirism, only one strain of the disease. First game with a feeding mechanic. People automatically assault past stage three. Sunlight eventually lethal.
No associated quests except the cure for vampirism (which had several quest breaking bugs.) Skill and attribute boosts.

Skyrim vampires - Four stages of vampirism, one strain of disease. Feeding on sleeping victims, or when charmed with greater power, awake ones. 25% boost on illusion spells. Muffle effect. No longer attacked past stage three (with Dawnguard DLC), sunlight is non-lethal but health, magicka and stamina do not regenerate outdoors during daylight. No associated quests in vanilla, apart from cure.

I love all games, except OB which I "like"

to be honest daggerfall is growing on me, wish i knew about it in the 90s

so my list:

game play =skyrim
overall atmosphere =MW
overall complexity and depth= daggerfall

the guild quests and main quest... ALL morrowind (have not played DF ones yet)

best deadric quests go to skyrim

best DLC morrowind I mean DUHHHH

best city is Balmora (for awesomeness) and markarth (for shear atmosphere and beauty)

I'm trying to understand why the Morrowind Mages' Guild is leading a questline poll when it didn't actually have a questline.

Do you mean that it was a series of mage-business errands and activities, not "epic" storyline of how you become an Archmage in two days? The former feel more natural to be honest, not everything has to revolve around the player.

From a story perspective, there wasn't much going on in many of the MW factions. Morrowind was centered more around making you a guild regular who advanced his/her way up the ladder. Oblivion and Skyrim center more around one main storyline, with minimal "paying your dues".

Frankly, I'd prefer a mix of the two. If you have a lengthy set of quests, say 30 fully scripted and written out ones (for the love of god, no more radiant quests), have all but the last 5 be regular assignments, with a small storyline taking place as you approach the upper echelon of the guild.

QFT. Or at least make them more believable. Although with radiant quests come magically precise quest markers, which I hate.

MW's MG had a "minimal" questline, involving replacing an inept Arch-Mage. You had at least two totally different approaches to the problem, one more political, one more violent.

Most of the quests were indeed "business", which is what the guilds are supposed to actually do, and what most of the members offer as "dues". Having every single guild running off on some epic "save the world" nonsense gets ridiculous. I thought the balance of "epic MQ" and collection of "less epic" and "mundane" faction quests covered it pretty well, and offered a range of choices for your character to "save the world", just live in Tamriel, or anywhere in between.

True.

I do however think that the best would be a balance between mundane duties and a large questline.

Exactly why Dawnguard feels so bad. I thought you will actually be able to work as a vampire hunter, but there's again, save the woooorld!
And in Dragonborn....again! how original.

Even though Morrowind is my least favorite, I have to say that all Bethesda games have big bugs. I played and finished Morrowind on the Xbox with no major issues. Two things that stood out. The Vivic guards were convinced they had to kill me no matter what I did and I had to make sure I had mutiple saves from files being corrupted.
