I think the DB would win in a fight. They are stealthy and very deadly, and they are also all intelligent and cunning. The mages guild are a little more noble than the fighters guild because a lot of them are scholars or masons. And the most infamous is pretty obvious...

I'm extremely disappointed with this list. The entire Knights of the White Stallion has been ignored.

Yep, the Thieves Guild in Cyrodiil are Robin Hoods. And I hope only the Thieves Guild chapters in Cyrodiil have that... "mentality".
I much prefer the Thieves Guild in Daggerfall, where it's truly an organization of thieves, rogues, ruffiands and prosttutes.

They capture children for ransoms, control the smuggling business and they are not afraid of sending though guys to "dispose" of freelance thieves who dare threaten their business. (They also have a tendancy to send their members steal ivory, for some reason. LOTS of ivory... :P )

Oh well, hopefully, someone will assassinate the Gray Fox and all the higher members who believe in such silly mentality of "steal from the rich and give to the poor" and bring back the TRUE Thieves Guild. ;)

"We gave you money, Marrell Greensmith. You did not respect the rules we had set for you. See your kids? Make sure you have the money in two days or you won't see them again."

Not

"Oh, Marell Greensmith, you have a debt, yes? No worries, the Gray Fox will take care of that. We have your protection. Now how about some tea?"

The Daggerfall style TG can still offer some tea, can't they? :)

Mages guild would win. Magic effects are the most powerful things in daggerfall, morrowind, and Oblivion, so yeah.

I think the Thieves guild thinks themselves most noble, but I voted fighters guild. The mages guild was given some lame nobility in Oblivion, but I always perceived the Mages guild as the most neutral, and disinclined to politics of the guilds.

Most infamous. Dark Brotherhood. They tried to kill me, mang. And even though their quests have a certain anti-hero feel to them, a lot of it is unjustifiably evil.

1. DB - they have a mixture of all the other guild skills, thus have the advantage.

2.Thieves - they protect the poor.

3. DB, though in the imperial city the thieves guild gives them a run for their money...

Mages Guild would win the war.

Mages vs Fighers : Magic shield spell and ressistance/reflection to damage along with destruction spells, would beat the fighters any day.

Mages vs Thieves : Come on, what would a thief do, steal their magic staves? Well gues what, the mages can do magic without!

Mages vs Dark Brotherhood : Say an assassin would kill the mages in their sleep. Wont happen, summoned spirits/daedra and life detection spells would have a brotherhood member dead before he/she even enters the sleeping quaters.

That said, Mages Guild wins.

Since guilds are not connected with one another (besides the Mages Guild which also has some degree of provincial independence (in Cyrodiil, necromancy was legal till Traven appeared.... in Vvardanfel, they will kill every necromancer they hear about)), I'll post opinions on regional basis:

Illiac Bay
Strongest: Thieves Guild (use combat and stealth, won't mind blackmailing with lives of others and have a powerful spy network)
Noblest: Fighters Guild
Most infamous: Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood, not sure here

Vvardanfel District
Strongest: Fighter's Guild (DB has no power there, MG is led by an idiot, TG is weak and in a gangwar and FG is allied with Camona Tong which strengthens them (and still receive Imperial support))
Noblest: Thieves Guild (don't like killing, help IC almoners, like the idea of "Honor Among Thieves"... quite a nice bunch)
Most infamous: Fighter's Guild (corrupted by Cammona Tong, sometimes they do very questionable jobs and nobody dares to oppose them... besides maybe the player f'corse)

Cyrodil
Strongest: Dark Brotherhood (Night Mother is nasty, strong intelligence and cruel assassins will be stopped by nothing. FG and MG lost too many members and TG is too noble and undernumbered to have a fighting chance)
Noblest: Thieves Guild (as long as the current Gray Fox controls it (he is the one enforces these laws)
Most Infamous: Dark Brotherhood no doubt

Some facts:
1. It is interesting how everyone attacks OB TG for being nice and honorable while the MW TG was not much better in that aspect. Even without the Bal Molagmer questline, the MW TG are still nice guys
2. Fighter's Guild are not noble knights. With that said, they are not ruthless mercenaries either. They are in between: they are not noble enough to become knights but Imperial support demands at least some level of chivalry from them
3. It should also be remembered that in OB most of those less noble mercenaries deserted to Blackwood Company. Only the most noble mercenaries stayed in FG. Other's left where payment is better, job is easier and rules are less strict. Thats the damn reason why it leaves such a noble atmosphere

1. Dark Brotherhood they would have the compition dead before they even knew there was a fight happening.

2.Theives Guild for protecting the poor

3.The Dark Brotherhood, they are the Dark Brotherhood the most ruthless assassins known, need I say more?

1. Mages: nuff said

2. None of the guilds are noble, they are supposed to be corrupt and self serving.

3. DB.

1. Dark Brotherhood. True, the mages guild has magic and stuff, but the dark brotherhood has mages, too. Mages, that sometimes tend to also be really good assassins. With some illusion magic up their sleeves, I don't think the Mages guild would even know what hit them.

A funny story about the Brotherhood in Oblivion: I was sent on one of their missions to infiltrate and kill a mage in some sort of secret base tower. When I killed the target, I was informed that I had been kicked out of the Mages Guild, which my character was also part of.

2. Either the Mages Guild or the Fighters Guild. Both seem like very clean-cut groups, and both are strongly against crime and murder; the only instance in which killing is used by these guys is if they're hired to do a job, and even then, they're usually pretty innocent and non-conspicuous tasks (Killing rats, Killing egg poachers, Killing goblins, etc.). Thieves guild, especially in oblivion, was sort of noble, but I'm pretty sure the past renditions of that guild were nearly as pure as it was in Oblivion. And the Dark Brotherhood... They're the only guild that openly condones the killing of innocents.

3. Dark Brotherhood.
