The Bethesda Podcast: Now Seeking Your Questions

Post » Tue Sep 21, 2010 10:42 am

In Fallout New Vegas will we hear anything major or new news to us about what has been going on in California or Capital Wasteland in the years that have passed? Especially if the Enclave is still functioning?

Does Bethseda or any of its partnership companys have plans/ideas on making Fallout or spin-off titles based on the regions outside of America? I remember in a interview somewhere Sawyer said he would love to do something like that. We fans who have open minds would love to see a Fallout title based in Europe or Asia.

Will there be any super enemy we might encounter in the desert or Vegas, similar to Behemoth in Fallout 3?

Are you surprised at how big and successful Bethesda has become over the years?

On Fallout franchise: From Fallout 2 to Fallout 3 there were a lot of changes to game systems, other then going from isometric sprites to 1st/3ed person full 3D. For example:
* Real time combat, meant less reliance on Action Points and therefore devalued Agility.
* One follower +Dogmeat, devalued Charisma. Having a posse to be a big part of a high Charisma character.
* Traps being visible to everyone, devalued Perception.
* Skill caps of 100, meant high Intelligence character could become master of nearly all skills.
There have properly not been time to change any of that in Fallout New Vegas, but do you intend to do anything about rebalancing the SPECIAL system in future Fallout games?
Or do you think they is no need of rebalancing?

Can you compare and contrast the combat features of Fallout 3 to New Vegas as well as Rogue Warrior to Brink? Oh, I know rogue warrior wasn't your fault.

Hey Bethesda, got a question for ya.

I was wondering what the status is on the second Elder Scrolls novel, that's supposedly being penned by Greg Keyes. (ei. when is it coming out? what's the title of the book?)

Thanks, and cheers!

-The initial release of The Pitt is one of the most interesting memories I have of being a member of this forum. It was very chaotic here for the day or so you guys needed to fix the problem with the DLC. What was it like at Bethesda during that time, from the initial discovery of the bugs, and the whole process of solving the issues, to when you had fixed the problem and sent it back to Microsoft? What did you do the following day, after going through all of that turmoil?

-When and how did you guys come up with the idea of making the two Elder Scrolls novels?

Of all the Bethesda games i've played, ( Every TES and FO ) i cannot remember that you have included a single epic/huge monster. an example would be a huge dragon flying over you in TES, nearly impossible to kill.
isnt rpg games all about fealing special, to kill such a monster will for sure make you special, with all the glory you could get in the game.

why havnt you done it so far, and would you consider it ?

What, if anything at all, would you change about Oblivion with the new experience that you got from Fallout and from seeing what mods people made for the game? Are there any particular mods that you may consider using the main idea of in your next game, i.e. the Weapon Modification Kit mod for Fallout 3 will be in New Vegas.

1: When the DLC for FNV is released, will PS3 owners have to wait longer like we did for FO3? Bethesda wasn't really nice to the PS3 and it was full of bugs, bad graphics, late DLC releases etc. Will this be the case in FNV?

2: Is FNV set in 2280 or 2281? There's a big argument over it on The Vault because devs have said it is in 2280, but All Roads says 2281.

3: Can we smoke in FNV? In FO3 i saw lots of cigarette boxes but we couldn't smoke them. It would be cool if we could.

4: On PS3, will it be compatible with 3D and the PlayStation Move?

Here's my question:

About how early into a typical Bethesda Game Studios game (Fallout 3, Oblivion, Morrowind, etc.) is the main quest written? Like, do you finish writing the plot before any of the other stuff starts, does someone determine a province and go to the writers saying "write me a plot here?" Further, how early or late are faction questline plots (Fighter's Guild, Dark Brotherhood) written, and finally how early or late are miscellaneous quests written?

The music has to be applauded in Fallout 3, but what are the musical influences of the peeps who choose the tunes for the soundtrack ?

Question about New Vegas.

Will there be any type of vehicular transport that is drivable, or maybe some customizable armor of some sort? //eg, Paintable, logo customization.

Also, did you guys ever think that Fallout would be THIS epic?!

What was the greatest challenge when creating Fallout 3 and what were your priorities?

What was the most enjoyable part(s) of creating Fallout 3.

I was wondering if you've altered the save/load screens so they are separated by character. Fallout 3's was a bit dated in having every save ever appear on one, giant list. I'd love to hear back on this as this is just about my only concern on what I know will be a great game.

Questions about Fallout: New Vegas;

What kind of DLCs can we expect this time around?

Exactly how many weapons will be in the stand alone game?

ok, since you waited 2 days to post this in the blog, i'm not going to slog through 6 pages to see if these are dupes. sorry.

  • how much life do you think Gamebryo has left? was there anything about TES:IV/FO3/FO:NV development that was difficult or impossible under Gamebryo?

  • what technical changes were made to Gamebryo between FO3 and NV? lighting, sound, physics, memory management, etc.

  • for all games, and particularly FO3/NV, how is loot scaling balanced? that is, i'm probably not going to find 20 stimpaks, a rocket launcher, and 20 rockets right outside of the game's start - it changes the flow of the game. alternately, i hope to find a decent number of aid items if i'm slogging through some creep-filled sewer, but perhaps not enough to make it easy. all of this, in turn, must be placed in the context of a global economy. is there one person entirely devoted to figuring these issues out?

  • are any of Bethesda's development houses creating technical properties to be used by other gamesas devs? that is, will we see Fallout 4/TESV/Doom 4 in the RAGE/Brink/etc. engine?

  • speaking of... Doom 4? what's up with that? (it has been announced.)

  • what would you consider the first modern open-world 3D sandbox game?

  • are there any amusing intra-Bethesda rivalries? does iD send Obsidian beheaded teddy bears? does Splash Damage crank call BGS, asking about a plumber for leaky memory?

The most important question to me is whether or not Fallout: New Vegas will support the platforms equally with DLC. I really want to buy the game on PS3, but I won't unless I'm 100% certain that what happened with FO3 won't happen with FNV.
