The Bethesda Podcast: Now Seeking Your Questions

In Fallout New Vegas, can we infiltrate other factions? You know, gain trust in one faction, so that they give you classified information and you just hang it over to the other faction and help that particular faction.

Will there be any benefits for choosing the NCR over Caesar's Legion/vice versa? Perhaps some faction-specific armor and/or weapons? Maybe even perks/traits/abilities?

My first question is, will there be a Tommy Gun as a playable weapon in Fallout New Vegas?

That may seem rudimentary, but there have been countless discussions about it on the FNV forums and that question is one I think deserves an answer before launch (especially since the pipboy pictures on the special edition of the game suggests there might be).

Secondly, are there any other gameplay changes that are implemented from hardcoe mode that haven't been disclosed yet?

Why doesn't New Vegas have diagonal running animations? Everyone was asking for them.

Will F:NV utilize the Havoc physics engine or move to the hardware-accelerated Physx for realistic physics? Also, will there be DX11 support? Will you drop support for DX9 and make it incompatible with Windows XP (please)?

Hey there Bethesda fans. We're heading into the Bethesda Podcast Recording Chamber later today, and this time around we thought we'd take a few of your questions.

Want to know more about that cool thing in Fallout: New Vegas? Wondering what's up with RAGE? Need some insight into game development? We have experts on hand to answer your queries. And we may be giving out special prizes each 'cast to anyone that sends in an extra-good question.

Questions that won't get answered include those pertaining to: unannounced projects, relationship dilemmas, werewolves, etc.

That said, use this thread to ask away. We'll pin it later and continue to pull questions from it as we record further episodes.

Thanks!

Are you guys finally going to abandon your current, horribly buggy engine and go with something that works, like Source? Also, now that you've started making huge piles of money with FO3 and Oblivion and whatnot, will you hire new programmers and start releasing more patches so your games don't crash all the damn time? I wouldn't have thought it possible, but since Morrowind every Bethesda game has been MORE buggy than the previous one.

Morrowind is my favorite game ever by the way - no small feat, that - and I really do love your games! I would just like to be able to play them without my computer slapping me, running into the bathroom, locking the door, and crying softly to itself.

Much love,
tank

How well will followers flow into the game because in Fallout 3 if you wanted a different follower you'd have to drastically change your karma. Also you had to keep a constant lookout for your follower for if they died that would be it, which sadly for me, happened a lot. So will there be anything like the puppies perk in Fallout 3 to aid followers, also would you have to make any drastic changes to switch follower.

But also also if I do get a prize can it please be the fallout 3 puppet I always wanted one of those but I could never find one.

the open areas of Oblivion/FO3/FO:NV would make the 6-year old Source engine weep. basically the only thing Source can do better is physics (outside of stability, which I can't comment on because FO3 was pretty rock solid on my PC).

In Beth games, game win you

Some more for you guys:

You recently released a statement that you want the wait time for this new unannounced project (don't worry, I'm not going there ;) ) to be the shortest in your history, can fans expect a quickening pattern and how long are you aiming to spend between releasing games.

Would you guys consider adding easter eggs based on popular forum talk or suggestions, it was really nice how you did it in Morrowind, especially the dedications to those people who had problems on the forums.

PS

Would you consider posting the usernames of the people who you choose to take their questions, if so you can just say Khal, not the whole thing ;)

ok here is a question about new vegas. The vats super melee moves look epic but does luck have anything to do with the super melee moves? And about how many guns are in the game, fallout 3 had about 100 different weapons how many are in fnv?

We've heard a good deal about Bethesda working on upgrading its engine and its tech, so here's a question geared toward that:

Has your newly tuned engine surprised you with its power? Are there any notable features (that you might be able to tell us about) it has that previous engines of yours could not achieve, such as dynamic lighting? Has id software helped in any large way with the upgrades to the engine? If so, how?

So you're making an open-world RPG, just like those guys: http://reckoningthegame.com/

Are you afraid of competition like KoA: Reckoning? (Gosh, Ken Rolston. How dare him).
Do you think RAGE will surpass other popular games graphically (eg. Crysis?).
And finally... WHERE THE HELL IS SkyNET 2?!?!?!?!?!

RAGE

Does id have any plans for creating a construction set similar to the TES CS, or Fallout's GECK? Perhaps with id now a member of the Zenimax family, Bethesda could even help them create one. Having a construction set would definitely up my chances of buying RAGE. =)

Fallout: New Vegas

Since some of the music from the original Fallout games is making a return, will it be in it's classic form (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtBgcnV8Ztw), or will it be some sort of remixed version of some of the original soundtracks?

What would you (either Grandstaff, Breckon, or whomever from Obsidian is on the podcast next) say was the creepiest thing you've encountered in the Mojave wasteland?

What, if anything, would you change about any of your previous games? (TES and Fallout related, of course) Are there things which you would like to have improved on, added but couldn't, or wish you would've scrapped altogether?

It's almost a month away from release. Why not share the some information regarding System Requirements. If not on the Podcast, then somewhere.

1) What was the biggest weakness in Fallout 3 that your tried to resolve or improve on for FONV?

2) Does Dogmeat make a cameo, and will he and Rex sniff each others' butts?

Fallout: New Vegas

We've seen concept art that shows different incarnations of a certain companion's armor, as well as an alternate costume. Are these different armors unlockable? If yes, is unlocking an alternate costume or armor tied to a companion's storyline? Is yes again, does each companion have a similar upgrade associated with the completion of their storyline?

Will we be able to recruit a securitron? We the fans find them awesome.

When you play hardcoe mode do you get the feeling that before you start a quest or event that you should go to your home base to plan and arrange yourself or do you get the feeling that you should go through your path and just work with what you got and whats around you and try to survive.

In the original fallout there were quest that you would have to do before a certain amount of days or else things would change for the worse, any quests like that in fallout new vegas?

In Fallout 3 there were a lot of historical places that retained their original name and shape throughout the game an example being the Washington monument while some places were changed to go along with the fallout theme an example being anchorage memorial, all of this I'm guessing because the history behind these places gave it a lot of emotion. I say this because from what we know so far you have change a lot of
las vegas for fallout new vegas so I'm wondering if you did this for style or gameplay or because of copyright.

This time around how much variety will there be for creatures and will there be challenging boss like creatures or hordes of creatures at any point?

Will we be able to run faster in fallout new vegas for when there's a place we just got to get to.

One of my favorite things about fallout 3 is the ability to play the game in a large variety in different costumes. For new vegas did you want to play with that feature more or what? What im basically saying is how diverse are the costume are there many outrageous fun ones like spacesuits or something.

Bethesda's games are blessed with some of the largest and most active modding communities in the world. But while the games are also hugely successful on consoles, console players miss out on all this player-made content. Is this something you want to see change, and have you discussed it with Microsoft and Sony?

Are you guys looking at making Mac OS X versions of your games, now that both Valve and Blizzard are releasing their games natively and simultaneously?

P.S. Please don't use Cider to port games.

1) will the strip be accessible early in the game or will we have to advance the main story to a certain point?? i ask this for those 2nd and 3rd playthroughs when we might want to abandon the main quest early on...

2) do we start the game with the pre-order items already in our inventory?? or do we have to take certain steps to acquire them??

3) is the strip located in the center of the map, or is it stuffed in a corner like downtown DC is in fallout 3??

4) are there more mods to weapons than just ammo types, clip sizes, and scopes?? so far, that's all i've heard about...

that'll be all for now...
