Admittedly so far it's a little bland
Chapter One
A new home

So this is the famous Imperial City, just looks like another city filled with lowlifes and criminals. Still it’s as good a place as any to settle down, it does have its upsides it’s far away from High Rock.

Aodren left Weye and set off across the long white bridge towards the city, he had to admit that it was impressive, he had been able to see White-Gold tower ever since he left Chorrol two days previously. He had quite enjoyed the journey, Cyrodiil was better than he had been expecting, ever since he was young he had been fed stories about how it was an inhospitable jungle.

Must have just been anti-imperial propaganda.

It took him a little while to reach the city gates, partly due to his lack of fitness and partly due to his slow speed, there was just so much to take in. Already the sounds of the city were reaching his ears, admittedly so were the smells. The gates to the city were huge wooden things with metal studs running through them, not quite what he was expecting. He thought they would have been more secure, here anyone with a battering ram could get in. The doors lead him straight through into the Talos Plaza, where he got his first taste of the city. Aodren felt a tug on his sleeve, he turned around to confront the person who has so brazenly infiltrated his personal space. He wheeled around straight into the face of a small beggar woman, she appeared to be Brettonic, Aodren instantly felt a pang of guilt, he had been so ready to insult and talk down to one of his own kind who had fallen on hard times.

“Just a coin sir, it’s all I ask”

Aodren reached into his pocket, his fingers quickly found five Septims, he pulled them out and dropped them into her waiting hands.

“Here you go, I hope it helps.”

“Blessings of Anu upon ye sir.”

It’s not like it’s my money, I should have taken more from them it’s not like they ever did anything for me.

Aodren looked around the plaza for someone who could give him some sort of directions, after scanning the Plaza fruitlessly, he wandered back towards the gate in search of the beggar lady he had helped, but even she had dissolved back into stone, it would seem. He finally found a guard, who pointed him towards the Tiber Septim, for his nights’ lodgings and the Office of Imperial Commerce if he was looking for something a little more permanent.

The Tiber Septim, was nice enough, if a little expensive for his tastes. Aodren quickly found his room and removed his pack. Removing his money from his pack he, locked the door and headed back out towards the city. His next steps took him into the Market district, he was stunned by what he found, rows upon rows of stalls set up in front of the more permanent stores. He stumbled around the market for a while allowing himself to absorb the sights and smells of something so alien to his previous experiences in High Rock. The sun was starting to dip behind White-Gold, giving the city a beautiful orange glow, Aodren he decided he should find the Office of Imperial Commerce before the market started to shut down and he lost his way. He found it without much difficulty, a simple sign hung over the door, Aodren thought it strange that such an official building such have such a drab exterior. He tested the door and found that it was open.

Good, I’m not too late then

He was instantly greeted by the owner.

“Yes, yes’ I assume you have a complaint about one of the many fine tradesmen we have here in the Imperial city. What is it this time? Overcharging, faulty products or did you find Rindir’s smell too offensive to your delicate nostrils?”

Aodren was stunned, he had never met someone who treated him so, it was almost as if she thought he was a commoner.

“No, actually I was directed here by one of the fine members of the city guard”

“Oh really, and you believe that gives you a sacred right to hassle me and make my life difficult.”

“I was told this was the right place to buy a house in the city, but as I can see you are clearly too busy to talk to a potential customer I shall make my enquiries elsewhere”

Aodren turned to walk out the door, in a state of righteous anger, did this woman not know who he was, who his family were.

No, I mustn't think like that, I’ve left them now. They didn’t want me and I didn’t want them.

“Well in that case, you had better take a seat, came a voice, now decidedly less angry from behind him. Aodren turned to face the woman, she had now looked up from the pile of papers on her desk, she looked as if she was 30 however her job was clearly taking its toll on her youthful appearance. “Please excuse my prior rudeness, I have had a horrible day, one of the traders had been selling cut branches of wood as enchanted staffs. You said you were looking for a house, whereabouts were you thinking?” Aodren was pleased by this sudden turn of civility, and felt himself relax a little.

“Well I have only just arrived in the city, so perhaps you could suggest and area that might be suitable”

“Well we do have a lovely place in the Talos Plaza that’s just become available, the previous occupant was arrested, and will not be getting out of prison, some nastiness with the Dark Brotherhood. However it does mean you could move in tomorrow and buy all his furnishings”, Aodren couldn’t believe his luck, he had expected to have to wait for a long time before even the most meager of properties became free.

“Yes, it sounds perfect I was just in the Talos Plaza and the houses were stunning, how much is it?”

“Including the furniture it’s 20,000 Septims, I trust this isn’t beyond you”, Aodren felt his leather purse, 20,000 was around three quarters of what he had taken from his family, leaving him with plenty to maintain himself for some time.

“Not at all, I’ll take it.”
