The Big Empty

Post » Wed May 05, 2010 4:05 pm

So acording to Elija (I don't think I spelled that right) The Big Empty is full of old world goodies. And I think the passage north goes to the Big Empty, and it's called: the Big Empty, leading us to beleive it's large and mostly deviod of... well anything.

So all in all I think it's the Bonneville Saltflats in Nevada. That's where they test rocket cars and set land speed records, etc. That might be the source of the old world tech, it's big and largely empty, and I believe it's north of Vegas.

What do you think?

I think it's a reference to Big Mt. also north of Las Vegas.

Actually, if memory serves. The Big Empty is a paradox, because IIRC, The Big Empty was near a populated area or something to that effect.

It absolutely is, it was called Big Mt. Training Facility in Van Buren. The Big Empty is similar to Novac or Arefu in the sense that it stems from a play on a name from the old world.

You mean Black Mountain? I've heard of it being called Big Mountain, but they already put that in the game. I mean other than that I can't think of anything in the area called Big Mt.

Psst, Black Mountain is South of vegas, not North. Black mountian is A big mountian. :whisper:

If you notice, the game stops short of Vegas's north borders. Plus there's a video, clever ruse or legit, that shows a hidden passageway in the north accessible by using the Noclip command. So it may be an ear mark for New Canaan, which is a speculated destination of a future DLC, Honest Hearts seems to be the speculated DLC of New Canaan.

Right I get where Black Mountain is. What I don't know is what Big Mt. is. I also know that there is going to be new content in the north. (Though there's also that Trashed caravan site not too far from Goodsprings) Which is where the salt flats are. There are dozes of other areas north of Vegas that could apply.

Ah... I got it. So we know the Big Empty, also called Big Mountain is north of Vegas, but what realworld location is it related to, if any?

The real world location is Big Mountain!
Go to Google Earth and search around a bit the Las Vegas and Utah area, you can find all sorts of stuff.

Okay this is getting frustrating. The ONLY reference to a Big Mt. anywhere near Vegas is an alternate name for Black Mesa. Do you have a link? Or a picture of a flier? Anything other than a general area on Google Earth?

Oh the ski resort. Why didn't you just say so?

You think the DLC will be at the Big Mountain pass? Is that where it was in Van Buren?

It's likely, like I said earlier, it's full name is Big Mountain Training Facility. considering the close (ish) proximity to Vegas I'd say Big Mountain Pass would be a good bet. What worries me is that New Canaan is really close to there, so I'm hoping the Big Empty and New Canaan aren't in one DLC. Because in that case, we wouldn't get a fleshed out military installation to be in, and we wouldn't get a fleshed out community with awesome Zion wilderness. It would be too much for one DLC to have both, unless it's an expansion.

I'm still going with the theory that the big empty is a large expanse of desert/salt flats. If you look on the actual in-game map of the Mojave, to the west (past the canyon wreckage) there is an extremely large expanse of currently un-explorable terrain.. It also look like a huge desert type area... However, it does indeed also have a mountain. The reason I don't go with the 'No-vac' idea of it simply being a reference to Mt is, they say the word properly with the 'p' sound. They don't say, "The big emty." Do they?

Hopefully if it is indeed the western region beyond the Canyon Wreckage it will simply open up and allow us to come and go as we please. I was bitterly dissapointed about not being able to return to the Sierra Madre. (Something that I -hope- they remedy at a future date. Even though the game say's we'll never find our way back, but hey, perhaps one day Christine gets bored, draws a map and sends it along with our free chips and coupons....)
