The big provinces have all been done...

Post » Thu Dec 02, 2010 10:27 pm

So, the big provinces of Tamriel have all been covered in TES titles. What's left? Black Marsh, Elsweyr, High Rock, Summerset Isles, and Valenwood. Those are all small dangling places and I don't see any potential in making a major game release in just one of them.

What can we do?

Move to another continent. And it's not like that if they expand in-game mass and fill it with content. Don't worry, there's still plenty to come until we probably have grandchildren.

I thought Skyrim was a small uninteresting province too... turns out I was wrong.

Go back to Alessia's time and see the overthrow of the Aldmeri Dominion and the founding of the Covenant?

Yes please.

They could play Arena 2, yes. And even without that, prequels can have unlimited content.

They could add together the small territories together and have a game that expands multiple provinces. Or they can go to a new continent. I am pretty sure there are plent of undiscovered continents. I would actually like to see a game expanding multiple small provinces. Imagine having to go through security gates to get to different provinces (or you can always sneak around them) and see the different traits of each province. Plenty of possibilites.

Every place is shown a bit scaled down from it's actual size (try Daggerfall and then see how small High Rock is). A smaller province doesn't have to mean a smaller land area; they'd just shrink it less (and then there'd be more room for villages and wilderness between the big cities)

High Rock was in Daggerfall. Anywho, every other province has as much potential to be a major game as the ones already used. You realize that in Morrowind, you played on that little island of Vvardenfell, right? Vvardenfell is tiny compared to Cyrodiil, but it still was a huge game. We'll have plenty more ES games in plenty more provinces.

Well, judging from the fact that you put High Rock up there, then I guess you aren't counting Daggerfall. That means that Hammerfell hasn't been done. And that one is about the size of Cyrodiil.

Summerset Islands would be an amazing place to tell a story. As would Black Marsh. As would High Rock (Again), as would Valenwood. As would... You know what, I don't really consider any of the provinces small dangling places.

Relative size on the maps doesn't matter. For all we know, when Bethesda does Elsweyr, it will be the biggest game yet. Cyrodiil is really 3 times larger than Vvardenfall, but in the game it wasn't near that big compared to Morrowind.

Daggerfall didn't exactly explore Hammerfell too deeply. I would love that next. Also, Black Marsh is HUGE. What was once mainland Morrowind is now part of Black Marsh. On top of that, High Rock was never explored too deeply and all provinces can be made as large or as small as Bethesda wants. Vvardenfell and Cyrodiil aren't portrayed on the same scale of size in Morrowind and Oblivion. No two Elder Scrolls games have attempted the same scale in terms of location size, so on top of revisiting Hammerfell and seeing Black Marsh/mainland Morrowind, we also have yet to see a fleshed-out Orsinium, a fleshed-out High Rock, Summerset Isle, Valenwood, or Elsweyr. Then, there are still the Daedric realms, although we could just have those be expansions. I must see Moonshadow, one day, though.

Compare the sizes of the other continents to Vvardenfell.

And now stop talking.

Considering that after Infernal City, Black Marsh has just about doubled in size I wouldn't call it a "small dangly place" and all the other places sound really good to me as well. I doubt that Skyrim will be the last part in the series...

Heheh... Guys, you do realize that none of the maps are to scale. They can make any province as big as they want.

I'm betting Summerset is next up after Skyrim. Fun fun psijic hidden island!

I don't see how you could call the Summerset Isles, the oldest seat of civilization in Tamriel, home of the Psijiic Order and the Crystal Tower, a "small dangly place".

a. Real/lore size doesn't have to equal game size, they can be scaled differently
b. They could have have two provinces in a single game. e.g. Summerset and Valenwood since they are close together.
c. this isn't actually about Skyrim is it.

Province lore size =/= in game size. Just look at Daggerfall...

You are right, Oblivion was about 4X as big as morrowind. (It seems to be a common mistake to think morrowind is huge, it just feels huge because you have to take a very snaking route between towns, it has low draw distance, and there is no fast travel. Use a mod to give extreme draw distances, and you will see each town is about 50 meters away from every other town.

Anyway, they would certainly lump both Elsweyr and Valenwood into the same game, them being adjacent and roughly making a neat circular area.
