The biggest failure of the gaming community in 2010?

Post » Sat Feb 05, 2011 9:39 pm

I scrolled down today and saw a locked topic by the name of" Worst Game of 2010". Looking it through, I saw the reason why it was locked and thought, "You know... the year is over... I think its my favorite time of the year!"

That of course, being looking back through the year and facepalming at those" What are you doing you fools..." moments that have been provided to us. So, tell us BGSF, what was the most horrible/stupid/epic fail moment in the video game community this year.

I can't decide whether it was Ubisofts breathing game ("Yes, im still flaming on about that!) Or Blizzard teaming with Activision. Then there is Kane and Lynch 2 >_>

Not so much as stupid as much as incredulous that Bungie is still milking that HALO franchise. Its like they're racing hell for leather for some finishline that only they can see. Does Bungie know something that we don't?

Metal Of Honor :sadvaultboy:

I started playing FPS games when I got the first MOH on my PS1. I was extremely disappointed with the latest release.

My biggest gaming disappointment of the year is that Singularity didn't have any support for subtitles :P

Ubisoft's draconian DRM was probably the most disappointing thing I've seen a game company do this year.

I believe that finish line was called "Halo: Reach," as they've said, oh, dozens of times it's their last Halo game. It wont be THE last Halo game, of course, as that's what 343 Industries is for.

Black Ops , I got it last month played straight a few weeks and then I got bored. It can't tear me away from Starcraft 2.

Fallour: NV is definitely a better game.

I might get NV when it most likely gets a goty edition but I really don't want much games and plus 4vs4 is really fun with friends from school.

For me, it has the same amount of bugs as Fallout 3, maybe even more. VATS is screwy, I have enemies stuck in walls and rocks, and my game has frozen 2 times in the 5 sessions I have played. I am expecting Obsidian to really fix this one up.

Bubisoft's AC2 DRM for the PC was horrendously stupid. You should see the user metacritic score, I think it is either a 2 or a zero.

It's definitely very buggy, but it's still pretty good.

The Kinect.

It's only been out for a couple of months. I don't think that's enough time to form any opinions on its ultimate success.

Oh thank god, I was thinking it would be that terrible hack someone made which... I can only describeas a groping simulation.... Needs more brain bleach.

Mass effect 2, or fale 3. Cant decide. Just look at them and then I think what could have been. I suppose ME2, fable 3 I just expected 2 with a few tweaks, it crawled under the low bar, but Mass effect, was so different from rpg to tps, mouch more drastic. And if 3 is nlike it E is dead to me, unless it becomes more like one, but as it is *shakes head*

Well atleast this year I got fallout new vegas and Skyrim was announced.

That doesn't mean its the biggest failure in gaming, it just means that you had a game you liked more. I thought it was the best campaign a COD installment has ever had, and multiplayer is quite a bit of fun imo.

The Kinect.

How is that fair to say at all? It's been out for a few months and while there's no incredibly deep games out there, there's a few fun party games to play.

Yeah I saw that video a while back. -_-

And I liked both ME2 and Fable 3.

The gameplay of ME2 doesn't bother me as I'm not in it for the gameplay I'm in it for the dialog and story. To me the battles are just vehicles that get me to the next dialog tree. Not that I particularly liked the gameplay, but it was never the game's selling point in my eyes.

I feel the same way about ME2 as you do. The levelling system, combat and universe exploring system were already pretty bad in part one. It was always about dialogue and story for me, nd those were still just as great in the sequel as in the original. Loved it.

Haven't had any personal disappointments this year. I didn't like New Vegas much, but I had expected that. The greatest disappointments for me are the continued trend of having more terrible drm, sometimes linked to digital distribution platforms that I don't wish to use, and having parts of games cut out and released as downloadable contents. But that is hardly unique to this year.

I gave up on the story after 2. Shepard will win just becaue he is the "good" guy. The reapers were ruined in ME2. And now there is no interest in the next game.
Story will be like DAO just in space... Get army kill evil forces, the end.
Stories are rarely that great these days, Mass effects is predictable chosen one, all life at stake, good > evil. If a gameplay has a good story thats great, but few games do, ME was good especialy the twist with soverign, but 2 just ruined it for me.

I thought it was great, and that the dialog was superior to ME1 (even if you ignore the interrupts)

I don't know which is worse. Ubisoft's current DRM scheme, or the fact that despite all of its inherent problems and bugginess, people are still buying their games and putting up with it. Morons.

Final Fantasy XIV. Haven't played it (and never will), and hate MMOs by principle, but damn, from various user accounts and reviews gleened from it, it didn't just fail, it failed hard. And one can't help but wonder...how and why would Square-Enix screw up this badly?

APB and its subsequent death. Took five years to develop, died in about three months, and took Realtime Worlds with it. It's not hard to see why, but Jiminy Christmas, how could these bozos not see all the inherent problems with the project in that time?

I'll have to go with Mass Effect 2 as well. The characters were much better, but that's about it really. The main mission might as well not even exist by the time you've rounded up your team. There was no sense of urgency like the first game, the main villains had no presence whatsoever and the inclusion of the Illusive Man seems unnecessary at best. They also handled relationships from the first game horribly. I'm sure BioWare has something up their sleeves, but the entire game just felt like a 40 hour prologue to the real Mass Effect sequel. What was briefly shown in the ME3 trailer only reinforces my feelings.

Not that it was a bad game per se, it was just a huge disappointment coming from Mass Effect.

I feel that I would be correct in saying that Kotick is probably the biggest failure of the gaming community in 2010. And ever, for that matter.
