[Relz] The Blade of the Haunted - A Sword Quest

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:29 pm

Is a clean save needed to upgrade the mod to v 2.0? I hope not as I don't want to lose all my progress until now...

Hi anithinks and all,

sorry that I forgot to mention this:

For upgrading to this mod's latest version 2.0 (which includes the "Blade Customizer") you do NOT need a clean save! Just reinstall via OBMM, or manually.
But don't forget to create a backup of your existing savegame, as always (this should be self-evident)!

I congratulate the author for this fine work!!!
It's rare to see a quest mod of this quality these days.

Now I'm at the step of encounter with "Little Esmeralda" and I'm already seducted by the work.

A suggestion for jaime74 regarding this mod's quest dialog:

Spoiler

Once you return the Old Amulet to Nadara, she still has dialog topics for the previous step of the quest, whjere she will ask you to retrieve the amulet from Ontus Vanin's home secrete basemant. I think once you return the amulet, these dialog topics should go away.

By the way, does Nadara know where the merchants (Misc..., forget the spelling) key is? Vornado's note indicated that ask N about a hiding place, but Nadara did not have any dialog topics once I returned the amulet to her...

Also, damn, you have done great work! I read the crumpled papers in Vornado's waste basket, and found that Esmeralda was tame!! Should have worn that smelly robe rather than ignoring it - Esmeralda has quite the bite!

A suggestion for jaime74 regarding this mod's quest dialog:

Hi antihinks,
thanks for reporting this!
As I am currently fixing some similar dialogue condition flaws, this comes in quite at the right time!
Though I am not sure whether there's a bug. Please read these notes (SEVERE spoiler warning!):

Spoiler

I suppose that we have a mod issue here... don't know if it's a bug or some unknown conflict or installation issue:
If you have found the (real!) amulet and returned it to Nadara, she should automatically hand over that crystal to you (it's called "Manchises' Key Stone" ;)).
If she hasn't done that, there's probably something going wrong.

Can you please enter the following console commands and tell me the result?
getStage BoTshow BoT.noOfMissingPagesReadshow BoT.nadarasAmuletInInventoryshow BoT.nadarasAmuletReturned

So you managed to take her out... poor little Esmeralda! :(I But defeating her is a great job, anyway (she is meant to be nearly invincible, but obviously you were stronger! ;))

Hi all,

just for all of you that haven't dropped in at the TESNexus page for a long time, here is a copy of the latest news:

03 Sept 2010: Mod conflict with "See You Sleep" detected
Dark dude has reported a conflict with the popular http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16005 mod! Solving this quest might require to temporarily disable that mod. More details will be given inside the upcoming walkthrough guide. If you want to know more right now, just send me a PM.
Thanks, Dark dude, for reporting this!

03 Sept 2010: We've been added to the BOOS Masterlist!
I stumbled across the latest version of BOSS's masterlist.txt today and found that Blade of the Haunted has been included! Hurray! Don't know who did that, but thanks!

02 Sept 2010: Strange, but funny effects with OBGE v2 and Godrays!
Today I detected a strange interference with the very popular Godrays shader from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30054: When Godrays.fx is listed in your Shaderlist.txt file, the visuals in nightmare mode are somewhat messed up (you will see strange "black holes" all around you, interrupting the fog). While this might be annoying for some people, it may be all the same fascinating for others, because it gives the whole scene an unintended, but quite funny additional "nightmare-like" boost! This is why I leave this as it is (would be quite hard to fix anyway). If you don't like it, just remove Godrays.fx from your Shaderlist.txt temporarily (only reconfiguring Godrays settings with the OBGE support tool doesn't seem to work). Then reactivate Godrays after completing the quest.

31 Aug 2010: Walkthrough announcement
As I can see that some people are struggling really hard with several more difficult parts of this quest, I have now started to create a walkthrough guide (I should have done this earlier, but didn't find the time). The guide will offer all required solutions on different detail levels, so that you can decide for yourself how deep to get into it.
I hope to upload it by end of this week!
Thanks for all the feedback, and congratulations to all who fought so bravely!

[Future plans]
- The promised walkthrough guide will be completed with high priority
- The next update (v2.1) will include the following fixes/improvements:
  • Better handling of the Key Stones (thanks to Timberwolftrass2005 and gamesrc for anolyzing this)
  • Revision of the book texts for "Aaro and Dundellon" and "Myth or history?" (thanks to Trollkin for the review!)
  • Slightly improved behaviour of the "Fountain of Dreams"
  • improved compatibility with ScreenEffects and OBGE2
  • Several dialogue fixes

[Some sticky notes]
  • Don't miss to rate this mod once you've played it!
  • Don't miss to upload your own pictures (avoiding spoilers, of course).

Hav fun with the mod!

Thanks for the hints jaime74 - I will go back and try to find what you mentioned in your PM. Will report back if I get into any more issues.

To all others - if you haven't played this mod, go grab it. This is simply supercalifragilisticexpialidocius!!! :toughninja:

Hi all,

please note that there's a new compatibility patch for Blade of the Haunted in combination with Unique Landscapes - Imperial Isle!

You can download this patch separately from the files section. However, the easiest way to get it together with the latest quest enhancements is to download and upgrade to the latest full version 2.2!

Have fun! :)

P.S.: Thanks all the same, anithinks, for the kind words!!

Cool, another update and a patch - I used UL Imperial Isle with BoH before, but didn't find an issue with either the shack or the backdoor entry to basemant.

BTW, you were right - I backtracked an searched for the second page and found it, and everything is now A-OK!

Shortly after the recent update, there's another one!
Version 2.2.1 is available for download!

Sorry for firing off 2 patches within such a short time, but this time it's important!

IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO UPGRADE TO THIS VERSION, EVEN IF YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE QUEST!
  • It fixes one critical bug that is not related to the quest itself
  • It deprecates the recently added patch for Unique Landscapes - Imperial Isle (BladeOfTheHaunted_UL_IMperialIsle_Patch.esp): If you have installed this patch together with version 2.2, remove it from your mod list again (OBMM will do this automatically, but you can also safely delete it by hand).

Special thanks to Nichi and Vorians, both for detecting critical bugs, and to Vorians also for assisting me patiently with UL compatibility!

Hi anithinks,

sorry for the late reply! Somehow my "watching" status for this thread got lost again, so I didn't receive a notification and just stumbled across your post some seconds ago.

As for your spoiler: No, I won't tell you, because you asked me not to tell you ;) But you turn out to be one of the honest sort who don't read walkthroughs! My respect for this!
So.. do you really want to know the answer? Or have you found it for yourself in the meantime? ;) :whisper:

Thanks for the update jaime74.

I still haven't had the chance to go aherad and test my hypothesis as my game borked on me yesterday (and that I have yet to find the ruin I mentioned in game). Somehow, I was able to get Wrye Bash working again, so I will go see now.

BTW, I've asked the mods to add a "[Relz]" to the thread title to draw more attention to this fantastic quest mod. :goodjob:

I was finally able to retrieve the ghostly blade.

Then the nightmare started! : :ahhh: :shocking:

PS: Everytime I wake up from the nightmare, I get a pop-up message from a quest in Kragenir's Death Quest (Crown of the Stars quest - that I've found a quest item), but nothing shows up in my inventory. Not sure what is causing this, a minor annoyance really.

Love the feeling of despair, and as I have sleep/hunger/thirst mod, having not slept for a long time is making my character weaker - I can imagine what Dundellon was feeling! I have this sense of urgency to get some help to be able to rest again.

Really amazing mod jaime74 - this quest has taken a new dimension, and it rocks :mohawk:

Thanks for these hints, anithinks!
As soon as I find the time, I'll try to anolyze what Kragenir's Death Quest is trying to do there. Maybe this can be avoided by adjusting my quest scripts a bit.
In addition, I've never thought about the dramatic effect of real sleep mods! Maybe I should add another comment to my description, warning people about it! :)

Finished the quest and obtained the blade (that was quite a quest!)

I can't say enough good things about this (if I haven't already! :blush2: ). Great work indeed! :goodjob:

I had initially disabled the customizer through ini, but now when I re-enable it, I still don't get the spell to start the customization menu.

I wanted to up the damage a bit as the default damage is quite low as compared to the damage for other swords in my FCOM OMOBS game...

jaime74, you should create more quest-driven mods, as this has been one of the most entertaining and high quality mods I've played recently. All aspects - scripting, graphics, puzzles, concept and dialog were of a really superior quality (also considering this was your first mod, it is really fantastic). The community is fortunate to have a modder like you, and I hope to see some more of your creations if you get the motivation and time!

as already mentioned in the PM:
Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for this encouraging comment! :twirl:

For resolving the customizer issue, can you please check the following console commands:
show BoT.useCustomizergetStage BOTHCshow BOTHC.initializedshow BOTHC.useCustomizerLastValue

Thanks,

Sorry everybody for the late announcement... but here it is at last:

Please note that a new version (v2.3) of this mod is out since about 2 weeks:
Link: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=33089
.

What's new?

* now BAIN-compatible, including wizard-based installation (OBMM and manual installation are still supported).
* Enhanced installation support for Steam users.
* Replaced most of the static resources by a single bsa archive.
* minor script extensions for enhanced automatic cleanup of variables, in order to reduce savegame space

If you are neither using BAIN nor Steam, upgrading from v2.2.1 is not vital, but I still recommend it, because there's also a slight script enhancement that performs variable cleanup in the background, thus reducing the amount of savegame space. This also applies if you have already completed the quest!
As always, upgrading does NOT require a clean save!
In contradiction to my original announcement, this version does NOT require the upcoming Wrye Bash version 291, but it works fine with older Wrye Bash versions (287 or higher recommended).

Yes, it's Elvish. But don't try to translate it, because you won't find any sense in the translation! ;) :whistling:

The title poster was created by Nichi21: As far as I know, ...
  • the sword pose was created with http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22582.
  • The armor is a "Sotonhorian Heavy Armor" set from http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26490.
  • The guy's face is from http://www.tesnexus....le.php?id=29134.

The artwork (background, fonts etc.) was designed by  Nichi21 herself.

Yes, it's part of realistic faces. I installed and tried it myself once I'd seen Nichi's poster! :)
To contact Nichi21, just write a PM to that user name on the tesnexus forums (http://www.thenexusforums.com).

@Johnny3Tears: Yes, I was thinking the same about my own dark elve, but then I decided to throw my "Tolkienesque orthodoxy" over board and let him have one... and quickly learned to appreciate it! :)
BTW: You can change the face and beard styles with the "age" slider in face editing mode.
