The Bloodmoon Rises!

Post » Tue Sep 29, 2015 5:45 am

Hey folks. So, anybody have plans for the super rare Lunar event taking place this Sunday (tonight as its now actually Sunday) night? Parties? Just enjoying the eclipse/Bloodmoon? Attempting to contact Hircine? Discuss, Khajiit wants to know (given our preoccupation with moon cycles and all)!

I'm probably not going to see much - the forecast for my area is for cloudy skies. :(

Same. :( It's been rainy for the past 3 days, haven't even had a clear view of the sun yet. XD In case it peaks out I'll have to muster up the willpower, power up my hipster instincts, and go out with a camera.

What does a blood moon do to Khajiit? does it create vampires?

This is a bit depressing, most people here won't even see it (except for Freddo up there, lucky guy!). I was trying to live vicariously through others with this lol That is a good question! Seems like I remember a few Khajiit hunters in Bloated Man's Grotto during "Ill Met by Moonlight" and they seemed fine, not to mention my player characters were unaffected during the same quest and also through the events of the Bloodmoon expansion for Morrowind. Honestly it seems like an oversight to me. Khajiit should probably be affected, in some way, by a Bloodmoon given how closely we are tied to the Lunar Latice.

Clear skies here, so I'll be watching. My school might be organizing an opportunity to watch from the nearby university's observatory.

That would be cool! I was thinking if it were planned in advance, it would be a good night for a masquerade!

looks like clear sky's (in my part of nebraska) so getting ready to anoint myself in the ceremonial Oil's, dance about naked a bit, maybe eat a salad...

(will watch and listen to Warren Zevons -Werewolves of london - a few times just before 10 seems to be the prime time here)

That's Florida for you - September's still a pretty yucky time of year here, lots of rain, humidity and heat. We usually have to wait until November at the earliest before we really get our revenge.

I can see it now. It's kind of a dusty yellow. I've seen something like this before, the moon looked really evil, like something Lovecraft would have written with demons dancing under a black megalith.

Well, there's another one in just three years.

Nah, this one is special, the next one won't be until 2033.

This night it's not only a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_eclipse, but a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermoon too.

Not quite the same, though. This one's special: it's a Bloodmoon, a Supermoon, and part of a tetrad. The next one's not until 2033.

Going by http://earthsky.org/tonight/total-lunar-eclipse-blood-moon-hunters-moon-september-27-28-2015#north, the sun will have set (7:01PM) for just a mere 10 minutes when it's at it's peak at 7:11PM here in the Pacific Northwest.

Clear skies here so hope to see something of it.

The last bloodmoon we had here in Calgary, some guy murdered 5 people at a college party with a knife for the worst mass murder in our city's history.

Not that I believe it was the bloodmoon or anything.

The bloodmoon was pretty cool though. Not as cool as the moon was about a month back during those crazy forest fires in Washington state that made it all Smokey here in Alberta. Made the sun look like one of tatooines moon's and the moon look like a red ball.

Being in the Northeast US, I'll be watching.

Spoiler
Hope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xoSNrisyYI doesn't happen.

Fun Fact!: the term "Lunatic" is derived from the Latin word "lunaticus" meaning "of the moon" or "moonstruck". They believed that madness could be caused by the moon!
