The brotherhood of Steel in FNV

Post » Mon Mar 29, 2010 3:34 pm

Damn straight. No point in keeping the Brotherhood around if it's just going to be another generic defender of the wasteland faction open to everyone. You can "reform" the Brotherhood over their cold dead bodies.

If we ever get back to the West Coast, I'd like to see them openly executing traitors like Lyons (and maybe Veronica) while at the same time getting their butts kicked by NCR. That would be an appropriate way for them to stop existing as an organization.

*pays off Paladin johns tech scribe, with some Enclave issue laser pistol**Activates area random dance virus, watches as johns whole bunker start to dance uncontrolably**Buys out the bunkers entire supply from his quarter master* also Shares the random dance code with all house supporter and Enclave staff. :P

As if we did not figure out that little trick by now about the dance glitch by now, still upset about the tinkering the scribes recommended to your gun? Thanks for the caps for the unimportant stuff, saves more of the good stuff for us, like the Enclave issue laser pistol, very nice, i'm hanging that on my wall, after it gets checked completely for devices and gadgets. :whistling:

In FO3 if you drop the FEV into the purifier it's going to kill the entire Brotherhood, so you do have a choice, actually. ;) Not as much as earlier games perhaps, but a choice nonetheless. You also get to fight Autumn and his supporting troops at the end, so that's not entirely true either. Granted, not as epic as the Master or Horrigan, but it's still a fight. Both of the scenarios from FO1 and FO2 require embarrassingly poor security; while it's possible in the case of super mutants (although still highly unlikely, and you'd think he'd have decent guards), there's not a snowball's chance in hell you'd get into the main base of an organization as professional as the Enclave without at least getting challenged for name, rank, etc, and in a group that small they'd easily be able to call a false ID on the spot. You can't just walk onto a US Army base if you're wearing an American army uniform, for example. :P Furthermore, in a culture that's been isolated from the mainland for nearly 200 years, a foreigner is going to stick out like a sore thumb. The Brotherhood is in a much stronger position after defeating the Enclave because they have popular support thanks to the purifier and (most importantly) the Enclave tech. This really is huge; they can replace their outdated T-45d and projectile weaponry with the best armor there is and advanced energy weapons. They also got Vertibirds, which is perhaps the most important part; they can wipe the Super Mutants off of the map with Vertibirds. Finally, they have Adams Air Force Base, a safe and mutant-free military installation. So yeah, it's going to take them a while to get the situation fully under control, but thanks to the Enclave loot they're pretty set by the end of FO3BS. There's just no way mutants can compete with Vertibirds, let alone Prime when he gets rebuilt, and now that they know the muties are coming from Vault 87 they can just alpha strike it with whatever Vertibirds they captured and cut the mutants off at the source.

Except they can't use the Enclave armour on regular bases, as they are well know. The battles in Broken Steel are costly as well, losing Liberty Prim and half dozen Paladin at the Array, lost another dozen to get the Lone Wanderer into Adam Airforce Base; then they may lost Knights and Paladins while transporting the water across DC.The Brotherhoood doesn't won much support either, the Riven City are quite passive and only help in case "the power armour dude get mad".If anything, Lyon's chapter isn't in a position stronger than 1st chapter at all.

Thanks to my Outcast Brother and to you for pointing that out, those are very valid points. While i agree with my brother completely, that Lyons group is in a far better position now, and by the time the battle of Hoover dam takes place, i think things will be better, i am inclined to agree initially with the other report that numbers of knights and paladins in Lyons group will be down till they get more initiates and get the batch of initiates currently training into action. Also depending on how the Outcasts react as well will also make a difference to the numbers? Will they simply go back out west with what tech they have, knowing Lyons got his white whale and report it as such? Or will they return to the fold and admit they were wrong and Lyons was right? Or will they stay in the East, competing versions of the Brotherhood, locked in an endless civil or cold war, kind of like what Veronica said? We will maybe find out, either way, both points IMHO is valid, and will take time to find out.

If we ever get back to the West Coast, I'd like to see them openly executing traitors like Lyons (and maybe Veronica) while at the same time getting their butts kicked by NCR. That would be an appropriate way for them to stop existing as an organization.

Ok, we get it, you hate us, and want us to go away and want despots, raiders, and other things that are terrible roaming the wastes unchecked, but you know what, not likely, so svck it up and give us your high end tech........just kidding.

I don't know that they'd execute them officially, but exile would certainly be an absolute minimum and certain elements would likely take matters into their own hands.

Sorry, what do you mean by this? I don't quite understand. Enclave PA is perfectly useable by BoS personnel.

Lyon's chapter is in a stronger position because the super mutants are nowhere near as relatively strong a threat as the NCR is to the West Coast BoS.

I really dont see anything wrong with lyons if anything he did the right thing in F3. They needed to stop being psychopathic hordes of technology and actually help rebuild the America.

Neither do I; the discussion was from the perspective of what the WBoS itself might think, though, and since the Outcasts essentially represent the WBoS they clearly wouldn't be too fond of what he's done.

I want the western BoS to ally with the Fallout 3 BoS. Creating a whole new super faction :celebration:
There is a chance the western BoS will adapt, as i have never seen any member of the BoS actually sacrifice themselves for the Codex, and i have never seeen any evidence of the fanatacism others accuse them of.

Even if it dosnt happen, the western BoS would die out eventaully, leaving the Lyons brotherhood standing and growing. I bet more than a few members from the western BoS would move to lyons when they see the way the brotherhood is going. Eventually Lyons brotherhood will take control of the entire Capital Wasteland, and would keep growing, thanks to their ability to recruit locals.

The Brotherhood wouldnt properly die, but actually grow and prosper so there is much opportunity for the BoS in fallout 4. [Sorry to all you brotherhood haters out there] :celebration:

The Mojave Brotherhood is sacrificing itself for the Codex; they're fighting an unwinnable war against a superior enemy because of it. Depending on the canon ending, they may or may not be wiped out for their dedication.

Exactly, I commend them for trying to do what they think is the best options available for the situation they are in. That they are in a bunker that is failing apart around them, Virus in the Archives, and some internal problems( Hardin, the stupid initiates who lost the laser pistol, and the overzealous defenders of the faith against Veronica). It is their dedication, and belief in the actions of the Courier that will be their salvation :celebration: , or their downfall.

"While Relaxing in the Bunker" Not that i am Defending them, But the Mojave Chapter is under a LOT of stress, as they are under a lockdown, their bunker is slowly dying, Hardin is trying to usurp control of the chapter from McNamara, Two Initiates are idiots for going to a gulch full of Radscorpions and losing a Laser Pistol, there is a bad Virus in the Mainframe of the Archives, and diehards are pestering Veronica everytime she comes home for speaking her mind. If i was in that Chapter, i would leave and get the hell out of there too, and be a procurement specialist as well, that place is depressing.

Heh, you do know that the Brotherhood in NV accurately represents what the Brotherhood really is? FO3 is the one that deviated, making them humanitarian hippies, when they are supposed to be extremely loyal upholders of the Codex.

Well they're dumb, but not that dumb. Going out in a blaze of glory would be silly if you could survive. The NCR would cream them seven ways sideways if the BoS launched an all out attack. If they were sneaky clever then they could probably take one of the areas during the battle at hoover dam (indeed in one ending they do) but it's not like they could ever hold it. They'd want to take on House too much to refrain, he'd destroy them, same with Yes Man. Legion does what Legion does and shafts them. NCR, while weak, is still more than powerful enough to take down whatever remains of the BoS.
If you want BoS play FO3, they're actually nice there as opposed to the tech grabbing cruds they originally were (and are again) :P

I havent picked up FO3 since I got New Vegas. I think the only way I would play that again is if someone was able to impliment DT to the armors to make power armor actually worth something like it is in New Vegas.

Aside from that I am indifferent to the BOS in Vegas. Personally I dont agree fully with their ways. Look at how they lost their numbers at Helios One and what did they have to show for that. Not a damn thing.

Spoiler
and if by some struck of luck they were to hold on to Helios One they would find out the weapon there was pretty much useless since it could only fire once every 24 hours so they lost most of their numbers for tech that was worthless

The BOS in DC though I feel will thrive since they are helping people and becoming friendly to them. They are also hoarding technology but they are using that technology at the same time to provide for the people. They will have lots of loyal DC residents that would gladly join their ranks especially after the Enclave showed up and the BOS with the help of the Lone Wander tore them a new one.

The Lyons Brotherhood is an accurate representation of what might happen to a group of soldiers operating so far away from headquarters, with little to no contact, under a leader who disagrees with certain elements of his orders. Yes, they're not the old BoS, but it's a sensible and interesting evolution of the organization.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them hippies, though. Humanitarians? Sure. But hippies aren't exactly noted for their widespread use of high-powered weaponry and strict military culture. :P

I still think there path is only going to lead them down a path of hard knocks. Them wanting to help everyone is just going to make them enemies with everyone there not helping. Plus they're goign to use there already very limited resources propping up people that serve no further function to them other then draining there resources.

Their resources are certainly going to be stretched thin for quite some time, agreed, but I don't see them facing any serious threats.

With their defeat of the Enclave and reactivation of the Purifier, recruiting will be through the roof as glory-seeking individuals join up, while the large stockpiles of Enclave tech they've seized will enable them to move effectively against the raiders and mutants of the Capital Wasteland.

Now that they have Vertibirds and APA MkII, I can't see the muties or raiders remaining as a real threat for much long; the raiders are liable to simply move on as the Brotherhood exerts its power (you can't beat a vertibird and most raiders don't want to pick fights they can't win) while the mutants can be crippled simply by sealing off Vault 87 with a vertibird strike.

It'll be touch and go for a bit, sure, but the advantages of APA MkII, Enclave energy weapons, a steady recruitment base and most of all Vertibirds cannot be understated. They have lethally effective air support that none of their enemies in the Wasteland have any counter for.

I'd say that by the events of New Vegas the CW as we saw it is likely unified under the leadership of the BoS and Rivet City; whether they will be a state subordinate to the BoS or equal partners with them is hard to tell, though.
Mutants and raiders might still be around, but they'll have been driven to the fringe.

How were they arrogant? Sure they stick an explosive collar on you when you first meet them. But honestly they would be stupid not to. They are in a bunker, nearing complete destruction, and all the major players in NV wanted them dead. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Anyway chances were you were a spy as how many wastelanders would follow a group of heavily armoured men to their base? Idiots or spys.

And for the rest of the time with them, they treat you with respect

"Shakes his head" Awwww......get over it, I'm not going to die acting like i got some [censored] up my [censored], killing any wastelander for the slightest bit of tech they have, [censored] that [censored]! Me and the bunker I live in follow the ideals of the Chapter of Elder Lyons, and we like it. We recruit the proper recruits from the wastelanders, help the wastelanders, and if that makes us white knights for that, so be it! I'll wear the badge proudly like the Outcasts wore their badges proudly, and if it gets me in front of a western firing squad, oh well, provided there is anyone left out west to do the execution, hehehehehe!

(seriously, the east has a better chance of surviving than the west, and you like them so you can want them to die? :stare: I can't even reply to that in the level of creepiness that is. After what happened in the east, and everything brought up here, i doubt they will be going away period. TheTuninatior brought up very valid points about the east, and the West, if they do not sue for peace soon, you will get your wish there Rusina, so buck up, you might get half your wish, just don't go wishing to ruin it for the rest of us who do want them being around for a long long LONG time.)
