The character creation is just awful.

The character creation in New Vegas was just horrible, I thought Fallout 3 character faces were bad because you were a 19 year old that looked 40 years old, I thought maybe the age scale in New Vegas would fix that but to my surprise it was worse, the age scale look at youngest 50 and at oldest 55, the lowest is far to high and the highest is far to low. The scales are far to hard to get the grasp of and I've yet to see an attractive player-character without the use of mods. Surely I'm not the only one that feels this way?

I like my characters the way they are.

Actually, you can just keep clicking random until you got a half decent face and fix it up.

Best just to make 'em as freakishly ugly as possible, I think. Gives them more character anyway.

It would ruin the immersion for me.

Eh, less incongruous in the post-apocalyptic setting than looking like you've just wandered in off the set of a L'Oreal ad or been beamed in from the Gillette dimension, I think. But I agree that the faces really aren't great.

you can easily make a character that looks like he/she's in his twenties, though I do agree that you can't really make a very old character

I thought you meant the PC design aspect was horrible (Skills, Stats, Traits and Perks). I didn't pay much attention to the facial design; (I may have just used 'random' to get past it with my own PC).

I actually found the character creation mechanisc hugely overdone. My character's looks aren't going to kill any Deathclaws.

Are we playing Fallout or Barbie dolls here?

in a post apocalyptic society, radiation makes your face melt. Also, its hard to find a Boots when half the world has been blown up.

IMO i absolutely hate the character creation on FO3, NV and oblivion. SO many options, yet never created a character i'm even slightly near happy with!
They are all old and ugly looking. I'm only happy when i find a nice helm to hide all their ugmo faces under...

I made many characters that look 20.
I think you make the head too big and wide.

Most of my guys look pretty damned slick. It is hard to make someone look really old (though I gave it a good shot with a black guy, greying beard, slightly large head and old seemed to work, changing the complexion a bit too).

My favourite is my ugly one though, she's mildly terrifying and making someone seriously ugly was quite fun. Especially when people still hit on you o_O

All of the faces I have made so far have been pretty damn good. Most of them better than the faces of Shepard I've made (and, oh boy, it's hard to made a decent looking Shepard from scratch)

I'm amazed that all of you guys are more then genuinely happy with yours! I have never (no matter how much time spent on them) been able to make a single character i'm even slightly content with

Your success with the face generation probably has something to do with your artistic ability. I'm only so-so as an artist, but I've managed to create Scarlett Johansen and Bill Macy. I bet a talented artist could come up with some great stuff.
