The Character Gets A Voice

Post » Fri Sep 24, 2010 11:03 pm

If the character could get a voice then that would be...more entertaining... I understand how having no-voice allows you to envision a unique narrative for your character...but if they hired unique (meaning that they sound a lot different than their usual species) actors that could do the voicing for your character when you talk to people I would be impressed. I am still loyal to the silent protagonist because I like creating believable characters to play in their own story.

I'd rather not have my character have a voice in an RPG. That's the only thing I hate about Bioware games, they give MY character a voice when I'm the character and not John Doe voicing it.

Lets see....

How about... No? One of the huge problems with oblivion in my opinion is that NPC's dont say anything. "Hello there can you please save my daughter" While in Morrowind you will have a larger explenation on how and why and where...

Voice tend to lower the length of things the player and npc can say and do. So i would prefer not to have it.

That would disappoint me a bit, because my characters do not sound anything like anyone else but my characters. Having a voice for the PC would detract from that a bit, at least for me.

It won't happen because of one simple reason

10 Races :flamethrower:

Thats the main reason why. It would cost too much in data to do. It'd be worth it if we only had 3 or 4 races but we have 10 so it won't happen. Plus you lose a lot of 1st person narrative which is what makes the Elder Scrolls games like Morrowind and Oblivion great.

i agree with you and I wouldn't mind it either way...its just an interesting way to add something more onto the game...it can be tedious though but also entertaining listening to NPC's

In OB joining the Mythic Dawn would add cool dialog to your character. It was interesting to actually have that. However, generally, I don't like this in games with high customization.

won't happen unless they go extremely strict theme-park style like Bioware.

It won't happen because:

-10 Races and 2 genders would require 20 different voice actors to record thousands and thousands of lines, this would be very expensive.

-The game is not story-based, nor it's linear like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. It revolves around you living in the world in anyway you like.

-It would break immersion, because, like I said, the game wants you to imagine how you would live in another world. This allows players to create and imagine their characters to have different voices and personalities. A game with PC voice-acting takes away that freedom. It would be required thousands of actors to record every personality type and voice type that exists, and this... is 100% impossible.

two genders for each race of course, thats about 20 voice actors, it would be cool but too much work...

I prefer imagining my voice talking to the npc, instead of someone voice- acting it. The latter would be like watching a movie instead of me being the hero (or vilain)

It would be cool, but I would prefer the silent protagonist. I always like silent protagonists better for RPG's.

Yeah I know that based on my prior experience in other TES games...but I wasn't just thinking of the story...it could have voices that interact with various situations situations like being attacked...finding someplace but mainly I would see it used for all conversations with NPC's.

I'd only go as far as voicing the dragon shouts, theres just way too much dialogue, this is not like Mass Effect, which has a 3rd of the dialogue of TES games and has a linear story. Honestly I don't even consider Mass Effect a true RPG, ohhhhh! I getta pick my teamates AND what I say, Blasphamy!

I don't want them to waste disc space on a PC voice. There would have to be 20 of them, with all the dialogue for each.

No. I just heard a snippet of male Hawke voice from DA2, and it already seems that like Mass Effect, i can't play DA2 with a male character

But my extremist opinion is that all voice acting should go :D Think of the dialogue! Won't someone please think of the dialogue?!

It worked for Fable 3, but thats only because you didn't have to pick a race, tailor your character's age/appearance, or their background...

I guess I would prefer the usual silent protagonist where you could just choose what he or she says.
