The choice to choose where you spawn?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 1:12 pm

I've thought about this when playing against bots, in which I spawn camped near the crane after they've repaired the crane and moved the Maintenance Bot over to the other side.

I've felt really bad that I was doing so, but then again I dislike them for their well-calculated shots.

So in summary, would it be better to choose where you can spawn? Not just any random spot, but like pre-set spawn locations?

When I saw the title, I was like 'hmm, good idea, but how would it work in this game?' However, you answered that with the pre-set locations and I think it's a really good idea actually. I've gotta say, fighting bots, I've done that too and I also felt bad about it, like I was taking the easy way out. So if you could choose somewhere else to spawn, it would add more strategy and decrease spawn camping.

I can see this working, maybe every spawn point behind you in the level becomes an option. That way if you get spawn-camped, you can take a step back and work on countering it from the flanks or side.

Sympathy for the insta-headshot Superbots? Hardly. Actual players? Could not agree more. I particularly like Pangolin's idea of keeping all previous spawn locations open for the offense.

Basicly this would put the defending team on a huuuuge advantage, though, because they could spawn both in front and behind the attacking team.

the problem is you would have a spawn wave all over the place, so works against teamwork.

^This.

I don't think that spawn camping is nearly as bad in this game as it is in other game, like MAG for instance.

Play Crysis 2 then tell me how you like people spawning behind you.Even though that game does it randomly,it's still the same concept, and it really svcks.

Unless the spawn points are placed so that this wouldn't happen, or that certain spawn points that might cause this are disabled as the attacking team progresses (much like how the deployment areas changes as the attackers progress right now). This can even pump up the defenders' will to defend against them.

Perhaps having a system like Battlefield's which gives you an option to spawn next to team mates would improve the flow of the game

My friend Pangolin hit it on the nail. As the match progresses, and objectives are advanced on, the existing spawn should be left open to spawn from as well. Granted earlier spawn points will be further away from the current objective, but it'll offer more tactical options.

It'd work like ET:QW, then? If you ever got surrounded, you could back out to an eariler spawn point. Both teams were rewarded with better vehicle spawns at the father back spawns, but that can't really transition to BRINK.

No thanks.

Would prefer it as it is now - the waves mean your team spawns together when a group are killed off at once - choosing spawns would reduce the usefulness of that, and decrease the emphasis on teamwork.

That's true, I see everyone's point on that, after all this is a teamwork based game. I liked the idea above, the ability to spawn by a teammate, but I think people could easily abuse that for certain objectives.
