[REL] The City of Balmora v1

Post » Thu Oct 01, 2015 12:36 pm

This city overhual adds many details and buildings that I decided Balmora was lacking. Now Balmora is more detailed and has new buildings, however most of these new buildings are not accessible for the main reason that I hate doing the same interior over and over again, how I handled this is that instead of doors there are activators that use the door model and are named "this place has nothing of value" I got that idea when I was playing Daggerfall. This mod requires Tamriel Rebuilt. Thanks to Lougian for letting me use his festoon models.

Why do people insist on adding the statues of Delin and Olms everywhere?

Well I added them because they look good and because I think the dunmer are very devoted to ancestors and the tribunal. I was unsure how adding statues of almalexia, vivec, and sotha sil would look so I just added some of these statues. If you dislike them that much I can make a version without them.

Not all of them, actually. Telvanni, for example, openly dislike the Temple, and Hlaalu are kinda into the Nine Divines too.

I just don't really see the appeal of putting the statues of these two guys in every single city, but for some reason modders who make the town improvement mods insist on shoehorning them into every single settlement. It kinda cheapens the two original ones, in my opinion.

LOL.

Spoiler
I think it doesn't help that statues in general make good - if not lazy - center pieces and there are a distinct lack of "generic" or reasonably reusable statues in Morrowind. You have: Daedra, Vivec, Olms/Delyn, Almalexia, and the rough Dunmer statues from Tribunal. But I like TR's stance that statues should only be used if they serve a particular purpose as a unique memorial or of significance for the location. As far as those statues in my mod. I intend to replace them, eventually... but the Azura statues everywhere. Those are going to stay - you know, since they worship her and all. Anyway, I just felt like commenting since I have often thought the exact same thing you posted - but then realized that I used those statues in my own mod too, lol - although they do serve the purpose of facing the Temple of Azura in prayer. Bit of a hypocrite here.

I've got people on Twitter telling me to make the city more religious and people on the forums telling me the statues are overused. What would you suggest I use instead of statues? I tried several different tree models and scaled them down but all of them are still way to large.

A fountain, for example. Can make use of Tribunal's Mournhold assets.

Thanks for the idea. Fountains might actually make sense for a city like balmora, i could also have waterfalls pouring into the canol to show some type of hydrolic system.

I'm currently working on an version 2 of my Ald-Ruhn mod but when I finish that I may work on balmora again. Any suggestions for non statue decorations in Ald-ruhn I had the idea of the sodier statues in the TR assets i am using but that might not be as interesting as other things.
