Is the Classic Pack canteen the only one you can get in the

Post » Wed Jun 09, 2010 1:21 am

In case you don't know, some of the pre-order bonuses are exclusives that cannot be obtained otherwise. However, things such as armor and weapons can be outclassed, but what about the canteen?

I pre-ordered the Caravan Pack since that's the one that I like and will probably use, but I don't want to miss out on the canteen if I it ends up being really helpful for hardcoe mode. (Thankfully all of the armors seem to be "lightweight", though maybe some more than others)

As much to my understanding, yes. There are canteens built into armor, but there I don't believe they've said there are individual canteens in the game.

they will get modded into the game as findable items eventually anyway. Just won't be available from day 1.

So in that respect it really is one-of-a-kind, right? But I don't really mind since it only gives you the convenience of having it with any armor you want versus one that has it built in (which I don't mind finding/using). Thanks for the response.

Oh sorry, but I'm playing on XBOX360. Good point, though.

Well, it'll have a unique skin, so in that respects, it will be unique. There MIGHT be little silver canteens and etc, but beyond speculation, we've only heard of canteens being in armor, and the Vault 13 canteent. So who knows.

Also, Im on PS3, so like you, mods arent an option.

It might be the only canteen, but you will get bottles, flasks or whatever otherwise.

oh sorry, I didn't realise you were on console.

Anyway, they might be included in a future DLC (if enough people pester them for it), in the same way Moonshine etc was.

I wanted the canteen, but the idea of binoculars was too intriguing to pass up, so I hope they are/will be included.

Binoculars are regular items that are in game anyway, ie not pre order exclusive,
I doubt the canteen will be super useful or gamebreaking or anything. They wouldn't include it in the pre order pack if it was.

The Vault 13 canteen is the only standalone canteen in the game, and it's an exclusive item. The only other canteens in the game are on armor items and clothing.

I hope not, that would be a bit unfair on the people like me who shelled out the extra cash on the collecters edition. :sadvaultboy:

I seem to remember reading something about the Vault 13 canteen having a "recharge" which I took to mean that it refills itself over time. If that is the case, is it also the case for the other non-unique canteens?

What the heck is this "canteen" that people speak of? A portable building whose purpose is to serve food to workers and soldiers? I realize it isn't, but why the heck call it "canteen" then? And what exactly does it do?

If that was the case, then I think that it would be too overpowered to be a pre-order bonus. The only way to balance that would be to have an equivalent item obtainable in-game.

It's what people (namely military personnel) use to store liquid in extreme environments.

Ah, I see. It's just that I've never even heard anyone call one of those things "canteen" before. Seemed really weird to me.

But now I know ;P

Being able to carry tons of food but only 1 water makes no sense. Unless the devs are incredibly stupid, the pre order canteen is just for looks. Its not like its hard to find or make a water proof container.

I'm inclined to agree, depending on the recharge rate. If it recharges say 1 to 2 bottles worth every 24 hours (and you can't use wait to refill it quickly) then I think the power of the canteen would be commensurate with an unique pre-order item.

Also, Canteen =/= Cantina.

Right, but what if the canteen holds 2-3 bottles worth of water and has no weight value? Plus, as far as I know you can refill it with any water source, so it should be a great item for hardcoe mode.

No, you can get canteens but they are connected to certain armor. But there is no way to remove them so if you get the classic pack you will have a detachable canteen.

wait, so we can only get canteens from armors if we don't detach them?

what the hell? I don't want to have to wear some specific piece of clothing for that, I don't have the money to buy this game on day one (I'll be getting it later on when my finances looks a bit rosier)

I really hope we'll be able to get detachable canteens in the regular game, even if they don't have as many perks as the DLC one does. Or even if it's something like a water bottle or flask.

@ the above: yes Beth. Obsidian, please tell us more about canteens and flasks, they are without question the most important and revolutionary aspect of the game :P
