is the collectors edition worth it?

if the statue was pewter or something I would say yes. It's plastic and looks like one of those $10 MacFarlane Dragons figures... so no

I think only you can really answer that question, OP. Do you like action figures, collectable statues and the likes? Do you have a collection of those? Can you see yourself looking through the art book more than once? Watching the making of more than once? Will you need to give up on something else (maybe two other games?) in order to pick up the CE?

Personally, I really like the statue and I'm interested in the making of but not at that price point. If they had thrown a little something else (the soundtrack cd, another Empire guidebook), or sold it at around 100 euros (since 150 $ is 105 € right now...) I would have gone for it. But I know the making of will end up on youtube eventually and the statue + art book aren't worth the extra 120 euros to me. But that's the operative word, you know: me.

In my view, no. I'm a huge fan, and I regret that I won't be getting the Collector's edition. The dragon statue looks very cool, and the art book looks pretty cool as well, but frankly, what would I do with them? I just don't really have a spot in my apartment for a 1 ft tall dragon statue... it just doesn't exactly blend in... but aside from that, even if I had a spot for it, is it really worth the extra 90 bucks on top of the standard 60 bucks? Ehhh... I just don't have an extra 90 bucks to spend on a novelty statue that doesn't really have any legitimate use. 150 bucks is a lot, now add DLC to the equation... let's assume they come out with an expansion that's about as big as the Shivering Isles. That's 30+ bucks right there, bringing it up to 180+ bucks spent on one game. I probably would consider buying it if it included future DLC. But 150 bucks for what's normally 60, plus a dragon statue and an art book.... nah.

I actually don't think it's plastic... I think it's made out of a pretty nice material, but I don't know. Either way, a dragon statue is a dragon statue.

No

I think it is ridiculous when extra contents are costing much more than the actual game itself , £150 for infamous 2 hero edition I just cant get my head around why people would waste money on stuff like that.
Demons souls and dark souls collectors edition are the same price as regular edition and contain the soundtrack, artbook AND a strategy guide. To me that is fantastic service from the developers as only the fans who order the copies early and show interest recieve the limited editions.

I have never looked forward to a game as much as skyrim but I will not be lured on to the present day bandwagon of overpriced special editions of games.

I love everything that's included in the CE, and I have disposable income. Therefore, I'm buying it.

EDIT: Oh, and one more thing. I want to support Bethesda in every way I can. If they would sell a super-uber edition with Todd Howard's hair in it, I would pay 1000 euros for it. Not literally of course, but you get my point.

CE's are NEVER worth it. The only people who buy them are uber-nerds and people who want to take advantage of them by gouging them later on ebay.

A new Elder Scrolls game comes out every 5 years or so. I played Oblivion for all 5 of those years as its still on my desk to this day. I surprised Elder Scrolls games only cost $60 because compared to other games, you get far more content. In saying that, the CE is worth it....get it

Completely agree. I just got a sick new computer and first two games on it were Morrowind and Oblivion. There's no doubt I'll be the least let down with the game, I'm more than happy to pay Bethesda $150 for the sheer amount of entertainment per game of theirs I play, and I just got a new apartment so what better to help decorate it with than Alduin.... I mean c'mon, no brainer.

I can agree the price is steep if you can't really spare the extra $90, but this is TES and I go all in when I can.

Well yeah it is overpriced. But if you have enough money I say why the hell not go buy it. A lot of these games nowadays have very overpriced CE. Skyrim already has plenty of content so its perfectly reasonable that people get the standard version over the CE. These days gamers want more than just fancy art books. We want some in game content as well. The only game I think of at this moment that had a reasonably priced CE was ME2. $70 for art book, in game armor code, cerberus network(worth $15 I believe). ME3 also has a pretty reasonably priced CE. A bunch of in game stuff and art book, lithograph, etc. All for $80. As for Skyrim, I wouldn't say its a complete waste of money but I think you can think of a better way to spend that much money. Right?

Personally I think it's worth it. I just love artbooks and statues/plush toys that are video game related, so the collectors edition is perfect for me. The price is absolutely fine I think.

Yes, it's worth it.

I'm a Collector of this type of thing, I have all of the Limited/Legendary Editions of every Halo game when they have been available for purchase.

Halo 2 (Limited Collectors Edition)
Halo 3 (Limited Edition and Legendary Edition)
Halo: Reach (Limited Edition and Legendary Edition)

Assassin's Creed: Revelations Limited Collector's Edition (pre-ordered and paid in full)

For the Elder Scrolls Series:

Morrowind and Oblivion (Regular copy of the games as well as GOTY Editions) These aren't really Collectors Editions, but how often do back-to-back games win such acclaim? I expect Bethesda will get the rare hat-trick when Skyrim comes out. Three GOTY games in a row.

This CE for Skyrim is definitely worth it. Especially with the statue being made by IP Factory (their statues regularly retail for $150-$200 by them selves, so this is a great deal), the one of a kind Art Book, and the Making-of DVD's are always just cool. And for aesthetics, I really do like the special cases that the game typically comes in. It's usually much better quality/design than the a-typical DVD case that other games are packaged in.

So yeah, it's worth it to me. I love collecting the extra swag for the game series' I love the most. And Skyrim is one of the best that I've seen in a while (since Halo: Reach's Legendary Edition...)

Edit = almost forgot one... ;)

But that ain't gonne happen I guess.
And I can't find any shop in The Netherlands selling the CE of Skyrim, any more information on that?

You could probably pre-order it from a U.S. vendor. I'm not sure how you'd go about that though... maybe Amazon.com?

No way. It's like buying the game three times just to get an art book and a dragon figurine. Not worth it.

Edit: Oh, and the making of DVD. But still, no chance.

TES games are few and far between. That, on top of what they offer in content and overall joy, i'm going to happily hand over my $150 on 11.11.11.

Definitely not.

Here in the UK the PC collectors edition costs £ 130

To compare: I've now pre-ordered the normal PC version of the game for £ 27.89

I understand that the collectors edition has a lot in it, but were talking more than 4.5 times the price of the single game.

its £130 althoghether

breakdown:

Game: £40
Making of: £20 around price of standard new DVD
art book: £20
map: £10
Statue: well heres the thing IP factory make other statues one is a 12" team fortress 2 statue of simple design which prices at: $230
so £40 for their standard of a statue quite cheap :)

Im getting it and i would recommend it to an elder scrolls fan!

Personally I think it's worth it. I get the collector's edition any time it's available for all my games. I'm the kind to regret not getting it and then dwelling on it forever. Space is becoming an issue though, so that will be my only concern.

I am contemplating getting the collectors edition, do you think its worth it?

As you can see there are answers from both ends of the spectrum. Basing it off of our opinions doesn't help if YOU do or do not think it's worth it. Your opinion is the only one that matters in this case, because it's your money, not ours. So do YOU think it's worth it? That's the only relevant question to ask.
