LET'S MAKE THIS WORK PEOPLE!

Okay, now as anyone could see there are HUNDREDS of tech threads floating around in CD - ranging from questions about graphics hardware, to questions about pricier graphics hardware and other tech such as monitors, hard drives and Processors to announcement threads of new technology and more. (I accede - I'm not being very eloquent here)

Any questions you have, tech news or ANYTHING related to buying/selling/information/announcements of new hardware should go here.

For example, if you come to the forums to ask "What is the better graphics hardware" or "What sort of RAM should I put in my PC?" then it should go here - I'm a little hazy, I know - but please keep all those graphics card and tech questions to one thread! Please!
So here's the summary, all:

  • Announcements and queries on new or unreleased tech
  • Benchmarks and results of hardware/discussion
  • Questions on what sort of hardware you need/want for your machine
  • Questions about existing tech and/or function
  • Pricing and recommendations

Should be kept to THIS THREAD.

Oh and PLEASE, if you want us to "Build" you a PC, please indicate the following:
1.) your budget in your country's currency
2.) what country you reside if not listed in your avatar area
3.) pre-assembled PC? ...or can you build your own?
4.) what is needed other than the PC tower? Monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, Windows OS disc? All these can jack up the price.
5.) product preferences, preferred seller, and intended aim

but please, no "I want teh superererest Peecee evar1!!!!11!1", because really, only Bill Gates has that much moolah.

And, speaking of building your own PC, two sets of good how-to videos from Newegg:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw&feature=relmfu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_56kyib-Ls&feature=relmfu

Thanks to SpankyTheElf for finding these additional ones:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CStOC0hET8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3buj5cIh2Bs&feature=related

This has been A-okayed by CCNA for all who were wondering - it's up to you to stop filling CD with the same topics again and again that ask what the most powerful card in existence is so you can (not) buy it.

If you feel you have a question or can answer one - please feel free to do so.

Thanks all.
Adding more links shortly, thank you for your patience.

(Threads 1-85 have been all pruned, may they rest in peace)

The computer is one year old, bought all together, and the owner is selling it because he got a kid and is "replacing his gaming room by a baby room". Good for him! (And for me if I can buy the rig at a decent price).

For a whole computer it feels like I could get a rather good one on second hand rather than an average brand new one. I don't think I'd buy one from abroad though, I want to pick it up, know a bit of its history and make sure I know where to go if it doesn't work after two days.

Sounds Okay. !!! (Also it is a good idea, to take a look inside his computer case. It should be clean enough. And you wanna ask him to fire up a game, to be sure, it's working properly under (heavy) load. !!!

Then you could make the deal. !!!

Also i want to notice, for your sake: His GPU has 2GB of VRAM. So you should live with that.

If that's acceptable to you, then you just got a new gaming RIG. !!! :D (and God help us, if something goes wrong....lol)

I didn't get that second hand computer. So I got a SSD Samsung 850 Evo 250 GB, with a special deal that made it less expensive than a Crucial MX100.

My motherboard (P7P55D) only handles SATA 2, but it'll live through the next one.

I'm finding this gear studying and rig planning really fun. And thanks a lot to Mark41 for the advices.

Goal is to have a great computer for FO4 in late 2016 (right? going to hate Bethesda so much if they don't announce it at E3). Thus pondering waiting for the video card.

If you were to wait till e3 to get a new video card, AMD should have their new lineup of cards. So that should push down the prices of current cards and give you some new options (maybe nVidea will retaliate with some new cards of their own too? Time will tell)

If you look solely at the synthetic benchmark, there will be a difference between SATA2 and SATA3, but in the real world you will notice a significant improvement in boot times, and general speed of your PC.

So, it would be noticeable in benchmarks, but that's all about it. !!!

In general feel of the machine, it will be much snappier with an SSD drive. Applications installs will be fast, they will open quickly and with no major delays when using applications.

Also you have the advantage from a silent computer, as there are no mechanical noises anymore.

I would say, it's worth the money, even if its an SATA2 connection.

Quick question about vsync.

I know what it does and the pros/cons with it on or off but when it comes to power consumption and stress (not talking about performance) is there a difference with having vsync on but vsync off with a 60 fps cap via frame limiter?

Yes it is. Capping you frames with an frame-rate limiter, the GPU operates at much less maximum power.

I know, that works very well on Nvidia GPUs, especially if you use software applications like EVGA Precision X, or similar.

How much, it depends on the game and the frames you wanna gap your game.

However that makes sense, if you gap a game, at a frame-rate below your maximum frame-rate you get.

For example, if you play a game having a min to max frame-rate (100-160), you can limit the frame-rate to 80fps.

If the game won't run that fast (for example, if it runs closer to 60 FPS), this option does nothing.

-----------

With standard VSync enabled (if the game can keep up with your monitor refresh rate) you will see a a frame-rate fall rate, to 40 or even 30

(for example), and when that happens you will often see a stutter as the transition takes place.

With Adaptive VSync enabled the performance closely matches the VSync disabled when under 60 FPS,

but caps there as expected with VSync technology, preventing tearing.

------------

So, with a frame-rate limiter, this saves on power usage, temperature, and fan noise as well.

Also, this produces a better overall experience, if you use older games or games that run at much higher than necessary frame-rates.

I HOPE THIS HELPS !!!

So, the Asus ROG G750JS I was recommended to get is no longer available in newegg.ca. Anyone got alternatives that can perform just as well?

Quick question, I'm looking to buy a new keyboard and mouse. I much prefer wireless, can't stand wired mouses, but a wired keyboard isn't something I'm going to cry over. I primarily want something that can stand up to playing video games. The mouse I'm using now is several years old, and everytime I try to play a game, any game, the mouse becomes partially unresponsive. I'll move it and it'll stop halfway there, or schitz out and end up somewhere else entirely.

$50 is probably going to be my limit for the two(together, not $50 each), I"m not interested in something super fancy or anything, just something that won't schitz out when I play a game.

Ever since I installed my windows on my SSD, for some reason when using my computer it occasionally makes a sound that either sounds somewhat similar to the computer booting up or shutting down. Nothing really happens to my computer at all except sometimes the computer slows down for about a second when that noise occurs.

Also I have four instances of when I am shutting down my computer a error message comes up which I cannot recall exactly what it was but something about an unexpected error has occurred, although if I press okay it shuts down anyways.

Well, what kind of sounds. ???

A computer makes some noises if it's boots. Most probably fan related.

-----------

What's the exact error message ???

Control Panel -> System -> Advanced system settings -> Startup and Recovery section -> uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.

-----------

Also disable sleep, hibernate and related stuff, choosing High Performance Plan, from your Power Options in your Control Panel.

Control Panel-> Power options

On the Select a power plan page, selecy High Performance -> click Change plan settings.

Click Change advanced power settings.

On the Advanced settings tab, double-click Sleep, and then:

Disable everything related to sleep.

Double-click Hibernate* and do the same.

USB settings -> USB selective suspend setting -> Disabled

Display -> Turn of display after: Never

---------

Click OK, and then click Save changes.

---------

*If you don't have the hibernate option, just:

Start -> type: cmd (right click run as administrator) - type: powercfg.exe /hibernate off

type: exit

Thing is when v-sync is off and the frame rate is still under the refresh rate screen tearing can still occur. It is reduced with more expensive monitors w/better timings and such, and eliminated with over priced G-Sync/Adaptive-Sync monitors. For most people with inexpensive 60Hz monitors, V-Sync is a must.

Nvidia's software adaptive v-sync turns v-sync off when your fps are not reaching your refresh rate, and on when it does reach it. Screen tearing will still occur.

The power management solution doesn't seem to work as my computer still makes that boot up and shutdown sound.

The shutdown error message is random so I'll post it on here when I get it again.

4.0 and 3.5 ???

Go to your Control panel -> Program and Features, and click on Add/remove or similar.

You should see, a box saying Repair. Repair all two versions.

If you don't have Microsoft NET.framework 3.5 download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22

-----

If you have the same problem after repair, uninstall all two versions, and install them again.

Microsoft NET.framework 4.5.2 (offline installer) -> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42642

Do you think you could help me find something of equal quality at that price, but whose keyboard is not wavy? Not a fan of that style, incredibly uncomfortable for me(buddy of mine has one of those, and I can never stand to get on his computer when I visit cuz of that keyboard).

Try this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=22

or this: http://www.filehippo.com/download_dotnet_framework_3

...and try with another browser too.

-------------

Also check your HDD from an elevated command prompt (run as administrator), with the command: chkdsk /f C:
