Right click>My Computer>Manage>Event Viewer>Somewhere in there depending which OS.

Thanks Wolfpup.
It was a "Service Control manager 7036 and/or 7035" Looking it up I don't get much in the way of information on it but I seem to be getting those specific errors quite often.

I have a Nvidia Geforce G100

That only has 1 DVI and 1 S-Video out. You could use the S-Video for a second monitor.

Standard Display Connectors HDTV
VGA
Dual Link DVI

I'll assume they mean S-Video by HDTV. The picture shows only DVI and S-video, no VGA. (May depend on the OEM I guess?)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_g_100_us.html

No http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector.

Hi

I got tired of the probems my current computer is giving me so I decided that its time to partially upgrade that computer. After weekend spent on searching for suitable components and good prices for them I've managed to put together a suitable set of parts.

This is what I thought of getting:

CPU: Intel i7 920 (D0 stepping) (OEM)
Mobo: GIGABYTE X58A-UD3R
RAM: Corsair TR3X6G1600C9

Anyone have ideas or suggestions of what to improve or change? My budget is around 700€.

Rest of the parts I can scavenge from my current comp. Those parts include ATi48902GB, Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1, Enermax Liberty 620w and Antec P182 case.

All help would be appreciated.

- MvS

Not sure what the price difference is on your side of the world, but the Core i7 930 is a bit cheaper over here...and it's a bit faster too. Your selections are fine otherwise.

Well you really dont want a cheap PSU, a cheap one could mean your entire system could blow. I wouldnt trust any PSU under $40 at all. Also are you sure that the case you are putting the new PSU in can support the standard ATX PSU? A lot of manufacturers have went to the smaller cases that only take specialized PSUs.

I'm not actually sure, the tower does look a little slim. In that case what would I be looking for? Micro ATX?

Do you know what case you have? You could probably look it up online and see what type of psu you need.

Or, if you open your case you could look at the power supply and it will probably say what type it is, then we'll know what you need.

I guess I'll have to ask again when I actually have it, sorry. Thanks though.

Summer,
Event numbers 7035 and 7036 are standard process starting/stop and load/unload informational messages. They aren't errors. Look for events with a red circle with a X (or a red circle with a !) , to the left of the message. BSoD are labeled as System Errors and/or Critical Errors.

If you are getting BSoD/automatic reboots then I would disable automatic restarts to determine the error codes. To do this, go to the Control Panel >> System >> Advanced >> Startup and Recovery (Settings button) >> Uncheck Automatically Restart option. Then you will have to manually restart the computer when you get a System Error/BSoD.

I'm most likely going to order my parts from overclockers.co.uk and in there the Core i7 920 (oem) is few bucks cheaper. I will probably crank that i7 a bit so the speed difference shoudn't be a problem. ;)

I almost forgot! I need a good cooler for the i7. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-002-CS&tool=3

Yes. I have the H50 and absolutely love it. Beats having a big honking tower filling the void in my rig. (Ugly!)

I am OCing my q9550 from 2.83 to 3.8. Almost a full Ghz OC. Admittedly it's a bit warmer than I normally like, but I had to bump the vcore to 1.5 to maintain the OC. (It will hit 71C(load) on a warm day up here in my attic dungeon.)

I thought about getting one of those huge heatsinks(1,1kg of copper!), but I didn't like the idea of that much of a weight hanging from the puny holes in the motherboard. Then I read about the H50 and some other similar closed-loop watercoolers and with them people were safely getting their i7 close to 3.8 - 4Ghz without any problems(And that H50 does look nice too).

My apartment is also quite hot(28-35C!) :ahhh: during this summer so I'll have to be careful with the temps I'm getting. I'll first try to get that i7 safely from 2.66 to around 3.2 to 3.6.

Oh and I just ordered all the parts including that H50 and they should arrive by wednesday! :twirl:

Maybe some pics would be in order when those parts are installed.

Thanks for the help! :goodjob:

The H50 is incredibly overrated. Barely cools better than the Hyper 212+ when you put it in a proper push/pull system for twice the price. The only reason to buy it is if you actually don't have room for a big air cooler, or you're obsessed with having a quiet PC.

I've recently come into possession of a Dell D400. There were issues with corruption in the software so I reinstalled Windows XP on it. Now when I open it, the resolution won't go any higher than 640x800. Is this a drivers issue? If so, could someone point me in the direction of where to download them? If not......suggestions? I know the laptop monitor's resolution can go higher than that....

Usually the Windows VGA driver can do 800x600 (Is that what you meant?) or 1024x768...

Looks like an Integrated Intel Chipset, download the driver here: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&catid=6&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D400&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=True&scanConsent=False

Obviously that is a very old driver, but it should fix the resolution problem.

I have satellite internet :meh: which provides me with a very.... Inadequate experience with "broadband." More specifically, connecting to LIVE through my 360 is a joke, especially since I use my alternative dial-up connection a majority of the time. I was wondering if I can use my PC to download game updates, patches, DLC, etc from the Marketplace onto a USB flashdrive and install them to my 360 via the flashdrive. If that can't be done, is there a cable I can use to connect my 360 to my PC to download the content directly from LIVE? Any help at all would be much appreciated.

1. You can only get system updates via the xbox.com website. Not game updates and definitely not DLCs.

2. Connecting your 360 to your PC would not be any better then your 360 getting the satellite connection directly/from a router.

Hello all. I'm finally going to upgrade my desktop, it's been too long. The main things that I want to upgrade are the CPU and the memory. Now, since it's got a Pentium 4 with a LGA 775 socket, that means I'll also have to get a new motherboard, right?

I won't be using this to game (well, rarely), so I suppose I can keep my current nVidia GeForce 8600GT.

The PSU is an http://www.enermaxusa.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=66, rated at 600W, so I reckon I'll be able to keep that one as well?

The case is an Antec P160, so if you could make sure everything will still fit, that'd be great. ;)

To reiterate: what I'd like recommendations for is the following:
- CPU (don't know why, but I prefer Intel -- I suppose an i5 would be sufficient?)
- Motherboard
- Memory (I don't think I need more than 4GB)

My budget is about 400-500€. Don't feel to need to use it all if it isn't necessary. Similarly, if it's not enough, I can spare some more.
[edit] Make that about 400€. I'll need about a hundred for new hard drive.

Also, I'm from Belgium, so it'd be great if you could use e.g. http://tones.be or http://komplett.be.

Thanks!

Righty ho,

As some of you may or may not know, I recently got a new job as an IT Tech...I'm probably gonna be needing a laptop for this and, as I'm currently on a 3yr old Toshiba Satellite A200 (which is in danger of falling apart) I think a new one may be in order.

I'm mainly going to be using it for work, so it doesn't have to be fancy...a good battery life will be important however, and with some degree of power. I really don't want a netbook, so please don't suggest that.

It'd also be sweet if I could find one that I can pay for over the next 6 months or whatever, as a payout of around £300 straight off will hit me hard (I'm about to buy a car).

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

Ok, I've solved my Xbox LIVE problem (sort of). I've connected to LIVE with my 360 but I have a Gamertag issue. I have my offline profile with 15,787 gamerscore that I really don't want to lose. I also have a Silver account to LIVE that I made on xbox.com. I've been following http://www.xbox.com/NR/exeres/7239CD88-DE65-408D-AE16-0FC0F8CB4230.htm to merge my offline account with all of my gamerscore to my online account. However, when I get to step 6, there is no option for me to recover my RogueSoViEt gamertag. My only option is to select from a list of premade gamertags. Can someone help me please?

Can't you upgrade your offline account rather than merge with a new account?

I set up my LIVE account last year. But now that DLCs actually mean something, I want to merge my online profile with my offline one so that I won't lose all of my gamerscore in the process of creating a new LIVE account. By using this method, I get to keep all of my offline information.

I know GS isn't a big deal to a lot of people, but I have some prized achievements that I don't want to lose.

Wait...you're looking for a somewhat powerful notebook for £300? That's gonna be a bit hard fetched...you'd have to spend a bit more than that just to get out of Celeron and Sempron packed notebooks. Here's what I can find thus far:

Okay, my problem with gamertag merging has been answered, but not in the way I wanted. It is no longer a feature on LIVE. However, it appears that I can enable my offline profile to go on LIVE without losing my achievements. Here is a snip from the email that MS Support sent me.

If you have offline profile that you would like enable as online profile you may need to sign-in to Xbox Live using your Xbox console and enable the offline profile by signing in using this profile. If this account was not yet taken or used as Xbox Live gamertag; all its achievements will be carried over on your online account. But if you signed-in to this profile and you are prompted to create anew gamertag the achievements associated to it will not be carried over wherein it will be considered a new account.

So, what they are saying is that I need to sign out of my offline profile and create a new LIVE account, and then log back in to my offline profile and it will be online enabled?
