It appears I spoke too soon. Just got the same window again. I opened up IE (which I never use) again to check the setting described in the link wolfpup provided. Sure enough It was off, and I'm still getting said window. Now I'm starting to worry.

Did you do the registry part as well?

No, as per Step 6. :

From support.microsoft

If you run Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), delete the registry value that starts the Machine Debug Manager. To do this, follow these steps.

I need help. One of the fans on my computer has stopped working. It's on the back right below the PSU. I have no idea how this is connected i'll try to draw it in text how the connection is:

To the fan _____________
---------------------{ |---------~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
--to-other-things--{ | |
---------------------{ | |
---------------------{ | |
---------------------{____________ |---------~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So now to explain this. The top wire goes to the fan that has stopped working, the bottom 4* are going to other things around the motherboard. They all go into a single black rectangle type thing. After that, there is multiple wire, that then go into sleeving. All the other components connected to the black rectangle are operating. Just not the fan. I do have an extra fan (same size and everything) but how can I disconnect this and reconnect the other fan? I don't know what to unplug/what to plug in. HELLLLLP :(
*or so.

GAAAAH the drawing is broken in the actual reply text. Hopefully you can understand from the explanation :/

I'd pick a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103847 with that motherboard (it will take just about any AM3 CPU, but that is the best deal Newegg has at present)/ That would leave you $112 for a graphics card.

Used nVidia cards in the 8800 GTX, Ultra, or GTS 512 models were superb when new and are still workhorses; there's a brisk market in them as used cards. I can't recommend any older ATI cards that would measure up. For a new card, ATI pretty much owns the low side of the market; consider a 4770 or 4850 if you don't have to have DirectX 11, or a 5670 if you must.

He'd have to get a cooler for that CPU though, so that'd take away from his graphics card budget too.

Hey guys I have an annoying problem.
Some two days ago a thing called SCSI-RAID device appeared in my PC. The name of the actual device is "AU4V3T20 IDE Controller".
The controller doesn't work and it came out of nowhere. I can't remove it since my PC detects it over and over again. My computer also complains about how installing the device has failed.

I've googled a lot and found other people having the same issue, but no solutions. So, I ask here. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a virtual disk. Did you try to install Daemon Tools or anything like that? Daemon Tools tends to assign 8-character random names like that to its virtual disk devices.

Good catch; that one is "cooler not included." It's only an 80W TDP CPU, though, so you can use an old AMD stock cooler or an inexpensive new one.

Actually I have installed Daemon Tools once. Didn't work out so well so I think I removed that program.
You know anything I could do now to eliminate my problem?

A friend of mine says she had gotten a virus. Her AVG says that Netsys97.dll is infected but if she removes it then her internet stops working. Any ideas?

Is there a way to lock the "Ati Color Controls"? I have my brightness, gamma, and contrast set via Catalyst Control Center... but when I load up some games, the game steals control of the color and I have to reactivate it in CCC.

Right, I have around ?80 to spare at the moment, so I'm thinking about a little upgrade for my gaming PC.

My build is in my sig, so you can see for yourself, but I'm pretty sure the processor is the bottleneck on my system. Everything else is perfectly fine, but it's a really weak processor.

Could somebody recommend me a decent CPU that would fit in with the rest of my build (mainly, the mobo) for around ?80 (less if possible).

Also, from http://www.ebuyer.com site please.

With that budget, I'd choose the http://www.ebuyer.com/product/166518. That particular stock number is "heatsink and fan included", so you can use the included cooler, or use your existing one if it's better.

Thanks mate, will get that one then. I have a Scythe Mugen II on my current CPU, so the stock cooler will go into my 'backup' draw.

Will I need to reinstall Windows if I switch the CPU?

Really need some advice on what the best solution is if I want to remote-control my PC from the couch and not use a gamepad. I use MediaPortal as a multimedia frontend.

Nope

If the motherboard (and most important, the NIC) didn't change, Windows probably won't need reactivation.

Changing processor within a family (AM2 Athlon to AM3 Phenom II) shouldn't force a reinstallation, because they run the same Hardware Abstraction Layer (hal.dll).

When I tried to get to my Windows Media Center Library on my 360, it says I was unable to connect. I reset both my 360 and me media server. I deleted the 360 from the Windows Media Center Extender panel. And re-entered the new xbox code. They are obviously both on the same network, however when I enter the code on my PC, it refuses to see the 360. What could cause this? Media sharing is enabled. I used to be able to see my 360 last week. I cant see it on my other 360 either. Any ideas of what could be causing this?

Ok, so just got a 32 inch 720p TV for my computer room, and I have it hooked up to my PC right now. I have a couple questions about it though:

1) I'm not getting any sound through the HDMI cable. How can I get the sound through my HDMI cable? Fixed this one on my own.

2) Right now it's just a clone of my desktop image. I want to be able to switch from my monitor to the TV, but only one at a time. I can get it to extend so it all acts as one, but I want to just have one disabled while the other's active. Can I do this? I'm using an HD 4670 with the CCC and can't find the option for this.

If you do it through your OS' system settings where you change the resolution of your screen there will be an option that should say something like 'make this monitor my main desktop' and that should do it.

I just booted up my computer and got one of it's random oddities. Every few weeks/months I boot it up and I get 9 long beeps then the power gets cut and it reboots and everything is fine. Any ideas?

Edit: One of my friends said it's the computer clearing out the cashe or something like that but I don't really trust him on that

Beep codes vary between BIOS manufacturer and motherboard manufacturer. On an AMI BIOS (it should say on the POST screen what kind of BIOS you have: usually AMI, Phoenix, or Award), 9 beeps usually means the BIOS ROM didn't read correctly. The other kinds of BIOS don't have a straight 9-beep code documented.

If it only does this occasionally, and is always stable while it's running, I wouldn't worry about it.

If it gets worse, so that it's doing this frequently, I would try, in order:

* Replacing the CMOS battery (it's the coin-shaped battery on the motherboard).

* Reflashing the BIOS, with the latest BIOS from the computer maker or the motherboard maker. This will rewrite the ROM and set all the bits to solid ones and zeros (or so we hope).

* Changing out the power supply, using a known good one. (Power problems at startup can cause a lot of consequential errors.)

If nothing else works, and the computer is not under warranty, you may have to replace the motherboard.
