Sneak and Security= Combined.
Speechcraft and Mercantile= Combined

My guess is that there will be a Subtefuge skill that deals with Stealthy combat I.e. Daggers, H2H, Silenced attacks, etc.

as for the other one, No Idea.

There's no confirmation of this. Producer said that being a monk-like character is viable and you can get all the way through the game with it. There are more hints that H2H is in than out. Also, not to mention stealth has no offensive combat skill so far. We'll see.

As the OP said, the 16 skills he lists as well as their categories are confirmed.

I agree with OP, the most obvious choices for the remaining two skills are Security/Lockpicking and Mercantile. A Dagger or Backstabbing skill is possible, but it makes more sense to me for stealthy assassination to rely on a combination of One-handed and Sneak.

I assume 'security' is in. Todd made a comment somewhere about the lockpicking mini-game that gave me the impression he thought good sense demanded a skill exist for it. But, all of that notwithstanding, it just makes sense to have a Lockpicking skill. I have been hoping the don't call it 'security' again. However, someone mentioned 'trapping'. It would be awesome for a Security skill to include lockpicking, setting traps, and (non-magically) detecting traps.

Before learning that Hand to Hand had been removed and Archery moved to the Combat category, I was expecting that Mercantile has been merged into Speechcraft. I have no real objection if not. But, it could be fun if specified levels of Mercantile skill resulted in dialogue options that might not otherwise be available, perhaps even with some NPC's who are not merchants.

So, as unimaginative as it may be, my bet is on Security and Mercantile.

I am pretty certain that security will be merged into sneak. Otherwise, I can't see how they could have perk trees. We know that the dagger perks are in sneak, which could be one tree (or stealth combat, which would also include general sneak combat), security, and sneaking (pickpocketing, blending in with shadows, etc...).

Maybe they brought unarmored back? It's doubtful, but I like the differentiation between armors and it could fit very well for stealth characters, (and mages as well of course).
I would love to be able to stick only to clothes again as a stealthy character.

In one of the interviews from E3 it is mentioned that you can fight with ur fists. Perhaps its just not a unique skill, maybe its a part of the 1hand skill.

I'm starting to think maybe some sort of Survival skill might be implemented. For all the woodcutting, cooking, ect. (As someone pointed out earlier.)

And I also hope that we see a new skill. Something TES has yet to do.

To float a reminder of a skill that, for some reason, I am remembering as being scrapped from Daggerfall: Disguise.
It would allow of the number of perks, that's for certain.

I'd love to see a climbing/parkour skill in the stealth category, but sadly I know that's not going to happen.

"You can play as a monk..." --> hand to hand is possible, but not 100% sure to be a separate skill.

My guess it's a Movement skill (jumping/climbing/running, perhaps even sneak...) and a Personality skill (speechcraft and mercantile combined)

By the way people. H2H as a skill is out, but it remains probably as a Two Handed feature (aka, there is a branch in the Two handed perk tree dedicated to H2H)

It would be cool to have some skill confirmations. I have a feeling what we're expecting is way off.

Is it confirmed archery is in combat now?
It's not confirmed hand to hand is out.
Hasn't speechcraft absorbed mercantile?

There just too many questions without any sources.

I think that H2H will be part of the 2-handed combat because I don't think you'll be able to punch with just one hand.

I don't think security does enough to be a skill on it's own, either merge it with like sneak or create maybe a contraption skill or something that involves making traps and lockpicks.
Of course the level of the skill determines how effective you are at using them also.

I wanted to facepalm when I saw that heavy and light armor are still separate skills. They streamline the weapon skills into 1H and 2H with perks for specialization, but they don't combine the armor skills? And can someone explain to me why a pure stealth character would need armor of any type? The only reason I can think of is for backup when they engage in combat.

Anyway, I'm guessing mercantile will have a bigger impact on the game, considering the revamped economy system and various crafting systems, activities, and services you can do. And I don't really see mercantile as a branch of speechcraft - being charismatic doesn't automatically make you an expert on trade prices.

Security could also be expanded - maybe they brought back probes for disarming traps, and maybe now you can lock/trap doors to get away from enemies. Maybe there will be a chance of your house getting robbed if you don't lock your doors.

I agree, I would joined the armor skills, joined speechcraft and trading both are pretty weak and passive. Probably kept security although I might join it with sneak, Joined acrobatic and athletic instead of taking them out. Now I would merged alteration and restoration and I’m down to 15 skills who makes more sense.

Now speechcraft might be far more important if the charm spell is gone or serious nerfed, however mercantile will always be a weak skill as long as you get most of your equipment from loot and more money than you can use at higher levels.

Not putting sneak and bows under the same group makes little sense, they fit together naturally and level together. However if you select the fighter stone archery level up faster, while stealth if you select the thief stone. Perhaps select magic and level up slower :)

2-handed means a weapon that requires both hands. Like a claymore, or a halberd. If hand to hand is in you'll certainly be able to hit with each hand making it more similar to dual wielding which is 1hand.

Thank you for talking sense.

Security absolutely has to be in. A thief who can't pick locks? How bizarre would that be?

I dont think so, if you are actually familiar with bows then you would know it depends on the bow type, some bows require very little in the way of strength to be used competently, yet all types require a great deal of agility to be used well.

Idk... Dexterity, sure. Hand eye coordination, yes... Strength, to a point, But agility? I really Dont think being agile, by itself, really makes you a good Archer, or even a competent one.

I disagree that Security should merge with Sneak. While it is true that our characters will often attempt to pick locks from a stealthy position, the act of sneaking and the act of lockpicking are two separate acts. Furthermore, there are other useful acts that could appear and would best be categorized under Security, such as disarming (or identifying) traps, locking (not just unlocking) doors and chests, or even reducing your chances of being pickpocketed by mischievous AI.

Mercantile may see expanded uses with the new trades and economy in Skyrim and has good reason to be included, but it stands a comparatively better chance of being merged. If so, I'd expect an Outdoors, or an aforementioned Athletics-y skill, to replace it.

At least move pickpocket into security, agree with locking doors, just closing them stops animals, however the lock spell was “do not use” in Oblivion CS probably as it made the AI go bananas, hopefully this is fixed.

However unless the economic is radically changed from Daggerfall to Fallout 3 mercantile is useless as we don’t need much money and get a lot selling loot, the crafting will give more sources of income.

I like that you are trying to confirm skills, but I would like sources please

The first Archery, One Handed, Two Handed, Block, Heavy Armor, Light Armor, Smithing, Enchant, Alter, Conjure, Restore, Destruct, Illusion are all confirmed via the Skills menu during the G4TV demo. http://www.g4tv.com/videos/53441/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-e3-gameplay-demo/?quality=hd

Sneak can be confirmed from another E3 demo. The character is 'sneaking' as the icon suggests. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9hJMxw126A

Alchemy can be confirmed in the same demos, via the Nirnroot "Unknown Effects" menu, implying that is for alchemy. But just to prove even more... you can see it on the whiteboard during the Bethesda tour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5zVawg-J-w

The point is to speculate on the other skills... so asking for sources is moronic
