The 16 Confirmed Skills

Post » Sat Jun 25, 2011 1:00 pm

The way i see it from all of the info presented the one of the last two unconfirmed will most certainly be Security (though I'd prefer Mechanical) because traps and puzzles are abound in the game. Combine that with lock picking and it is a rounded out viable skill.
As others have said It makes a lot of sense to put Mercantile under the Speechcraft skill because bartering is actually just talking and previously disposition played a larger role in the prices you paid for goods than Mercantile did. It makes perfect sense.

As for the Last skill I would love to see a Martial Arts skill. HTH, UA, Athl and Acro could all be covered under that one skill. Also it's not like Matrial Arts are an alien concept to the world of Nirn. It would fit perfectly for a Kajiit's highest starting skill too since it's original "best skill" Acro, is now gone.

I dont get people some times. Security was sweet in oblivion. I HATED not being able to open chest locks, and the security skill genuinely made it easier to do, but with patience and skill even at low levels could open any lock. Its just one of those things where character skill is secondary (but supportive) to player skill.

Lost loot svcks hard. Some of the best gear i've found was locked up.

So i hope, and believe Security will be in.

Im also digging the Martial Arts idea. Its a perfect fit for Acrobat, Athletics, and all the other ninja stuff like hand to hand, unarmored.

If that doesnt fly, then Agility will be fine, that just affects acrobatic and athletics. These two skills are EXTREMELY important to a proper stealth character. Sneaking is slow, so having good speed is important. Acrobatics is also a plus to help get places that can provide an advantage you otherwise wouldnt have.

It can be rolled into Sneak. You wouldn't often focus on one without the other in past games unless you took up Alteration or Illusion.

I don't think a loss of Security as a separate skill would imply a loss of locks on doors and chests. That would be stupid.

Everyone always forgets about traps and treats Security like a one trick pony. If it were it would have been called Lockpick.

I don't see how that invalidates the fact that it can be rolled into Sneak. In fact I don't see how traps have anything to do with what I wrote.

Pickpocket maybe? I guess that could fall under security. How about dodge?

I can see it if was just lockpick becuase that is inherently sneaky but what is sneaky about disarming traps. Also i don't see how security can just roll right up with sneaking, which is your ability to remain undetected and kill silently. It just seems like a half assed way to get rid of a skill by cramming unrelated functionality into the sneak skill. It just doesn't fit, imo.

There's not really anything sneaky about lockpicking either. The two just go together from a gameplay standpoint, and even with traps included Security is a small skill. By that reasoning it seems like something Bethesda could do if they have an excess skill. It's a possibility, not one I agree with or necessarily expect them to take advantage of. My first post was meant to explain why Security doesn't need to be in just because doors have locks.

I hope they bring back traps on doors and chests. I also hope that more dungeon traps like the pendulums can be disabled, even altered to impede enemies. That might be wishful thinking though.

Maybe others have remarked this, but I wouldn't be surprised if marksmanship were a stealth skill.

Archery is a combat skill.

This has been confirmed people. I know might be hard to wrap your head around it beacuse every cliche theif character ever used a bow but if you step back and look at it realistically it makes sense. Just like one-handed weapons are more similar in the mechanics of their use than all bladed weapons.

One of them should be security

It should be for chests AND traps

And they should not include a infinite lock pick and the lockpick spell should be removed

This would make it a viable skill

Where was it confirmed that there was no hand-2-hand? In a recent interview Ashley said that hand-2-hand would be a viable play style. perhaps it is something to do with that.

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere the ability to set traps now? If you can do it with spells, I don't see why you can't have a mundane version of it. So if that's the case, that could pair up with lockpicking into security

And I think it's also mentioned that speechcraft & mercantile are joined

I actually hope they reintroduce climbing from daggerfall, but that's surely just a pipedream

People need to realize that just because the Hand-to-Hand skill is gone, it doesn't mean players cannot fight hand-to-hand. There also isn't a Blade skill; nor a Blunt skill; and yet obviously you are able to use blades and blunt weapons. To wit: your melee fighting style will be accommodated via Perks in the One-Handed or Two-Handed skills—not via individualized skills.

I've seen a few threads about climbing things, I'm not sure this is a rumor or just complete speculation on nothing in particular, but if you can climb, mightn't that be one?

I think people talking about climbing might just be making fun of the climb skill in Daggerfall? Just a thought.

That page provides no citation link to it's source for that fact.
Wikia is trash, people just copy paste whatever information to it from other sites.

Most agree that Athletics (with acrobatics merged in) is one of them.
Mercentile is probably merged into Speechcraft.
Security could be a part of sneak, if all it does is open locks.
Hand-to-Hand seems like a possibility, though a fuzzy one.
Other possibilities are Exploration (cooking + navigation + fast travel perks) and Chores (cooking, woodcutting, mining etc.).
